I quit watching more than a year ago, but it seems to me Grey's Anatomy has run its course or will have after next year.. IT is about a paritcular "Grey" and any random later introduced Grey. I doubt TPTB will end it on a high note, but it may be the right thing to do.
That said, if it continues I'm sure many people will still watch the lesser version of itself, but It wouldn't be the same series in my eyes.
Lexie has become an interesting character but, more importantly, there's no way Shonda Rhimes or ABC is going to let this show end any time soon so it's really a moot point. Besides, the show has already survived the majority of the original cast leaving the show and there's no reason to believe it won't successfully continue without two more.
Despite the fact that it has "Grey's" in the title, the show is structured for an ensemble cast instead of lead and supporting characters and is built to withstand exits like these.
The show is bigger than either of PD or Ellen Pompeo. If the writing is good enough most of the other characters can hold the show. But it will depend on how many of the originals stay. If a lot of them leave then the show will struggle to secure S9. But Sandra, Chandra, James, Justin plus Chyler Leigh, Sara Ramirez and Jessica Capshaw are all strong enough to carry it on.
Agreed. While this season finale certainly didn't have the impact or intensity of the previous season, we're still riding a fairly decent bout of creativity. I'll be back for S8 and I would watch without Derek.
On that note, while it makes sense for Ellen to leave too, has that been confirmed? They could always pull an ER. That lasted, what, 5 or 6 years past Clooney? Not that it was as good, but still. It was there.
If this shows stays on the air after S8 it won't be for many season, I say S9 or S10 at the most. The ratings are falling. The Season finale was the least rated Season finale in the history of the show. So I don't see this show going on for S15 at all.
there's no show without Merder, I don't care what Shonda might say about continuing without them. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if Sandra Oh decided to leave too. As much as I like the new people (and Lexie) its pretty obvious to anyone that's watched the show that they can't carry it on their own. Plus, the ratings are falling with all the original cast still on so without them even less people would watch. If we could at least say that Shonda and company are still producing great story lines then there could be some hope in continuing the series without the originals. But truthfully the ST lines having gotten incredibly boring and uninspiring. It's sad but I'd prefer for the show to go off on a high note instead of being canceled.
I think the show could easily carry on without patrick, but if ellen stops as well (which is very likely), I don't think it'll survive. Even though the show centers around a group of people, Ellen is the most important one and the one keeping everyone together. Without her there, the dynamic of the show and the characters will have to change a lot. Last season hasn't been one of the best, so I'm curious how they are going to pull everything off next season.
Maybe it'll be good tho, but it will be like a complete new show rather than grey's anatomy, imo.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Aww, you beat me!
ReplyDeleteBut yeah, the show needs to end after season eight. If both Ellen and Patrick are gone, there's no show. I love Lexie, but she can't carry the show.
I thought that was a foregone conclusion at this point. I'm assuming it will also be the case for Ellen Pompeo.
ReplyDeleteI disagree.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I started watching for certain characters, and it looks like they will be gone after this season...
ReplyDeleteWill really miss Ellen and Derek. I hope it continues, although I know it won't be the same. :(
ReplyDeleteI'm with you, Bruce, Lexie is already far more likable than Meredith and Derek combined.

I predict they'll give it a go for Season 9 but that'll be the last one.

Nothing has been confirmed but she's done a handful of interviews expressing her interest in leaving and focusing on just being a mom.
ReplyDeleteMe too
