Thanks to Bruce_F for the heads up.
Big news on Fox’s Bones spin-off. The female lead on The Finder is being recast. Saffron Burrows is leaving the show, sources tell EW.
The former Law & Order: Criminal Intent actress played Geoff Stults’ sidekick in the show’s pilot. Her character was a tough bar owner and helicopter pilot, but the network has decided to re-conceive the role. (One issue for some fans: the British actress played the role with a rather striking cockney accent.)
Recastings are common this time of year after networks analyze their pilots and try to figure out how to make the shows better before they debut in the fall. But normally this all happens behind the scenes. The Finder is unusual, since the pilot starring Burrows actually aired on the network in the Bones slot this season. Other parts being recast across the dial include Damon Wayans Jr. in Fox’s comedy The New Girl and Toby Stephens in NBC’s Prime Suspect.

This is like when they replaced Naomi on Private Practice with Audra McDonald when someone else (Merrin Dungey?) played the part in the backdoor pilot that GA aired. (Love Audra, but still not completely over the re-casting, tbh.)
ReplyDeleteThis is great news, in my opinion. I have nothing against the actress but her playing that character completely butchered the 'Pilot' for me. Hopefully the replacement is a better fit.
ReplyDeleteThe cockney accent was a bit much.
ReplyDeleteCasting suggestions, anyone?
That horrific "Cockney" accent ruined the pilot
ReplyDeletefor me. Glad to hear she is being replaced, because it looks like a decent
show.
Totally agree, being a Brit it was awful
ReplyDeleteRunnnnnnnn! Run away! Run fast! Don't stop. Don't ever speak with a cockney accent again.
ReplyDeleteRun until someone else hires you for a project that may last ... and preferably one without accents....
It was as bad as Dick " Cor blimey Mary Poppins " Van Dykes
ReplyDeleteShe is the only actor from the UK I can think of that makes a UK accent sound fake. I swear.
ReplyDeleteThat was one for the ages!
ReplyDeleteI am not as big a critic being from the US, but that one was just wrong! Seriously... wrong.
Yeah. It was almost as bad as Conan O'Brien's chimney sweep accent.
ReplyDeleteNot a good few weeks for people on Law and Order
ReplyDeleteI've been thinking about this for a while and you know who would be a good fit for this show?
ReplyDeleteErica Durance.
I'm not an American or Brit but her accent sounded so stiff to me that I couldn't concentrate on the show.
ReplyDelete-My casting suggestions: Michelle Rodriguez and Summer Glau (I really love this girl!) ;)
Rosie Sanchez from "without a trace"
ReplyDeleteTMZ is claiming that Cheryl Cole's accent might get her out of X-Factor.
ReplyDeleteWouldn't it have been easier just to have Burrows dial it down a notch?
Summer Glau is awesome.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, I will watch Michael Clarke Duncan in anything.
I knew FOX would screw this up and here I thoght they let the cast be as it was ... great FOX u such disappointment all over again
ReplyDeleteI thought she was american!!
ReplyDeleteI hope not Summer Glau. I really don't get what people see in her. To each its own, I know, but I think she and Eliza Dushku are way over-hyped.
ReplyDeleteHooray! As a Londoner im thrilled. I was horrified by her horrific " mockney" accent and couldnt have stuck with a season of it. It ranks up there with Fionas frightful oirish accent from the "Burn Notice" pilot. Best descision ever to dump the accent love! Great show, well dodgy accent!!!! sorry Saffy stick to the posh stuff?
ReplyDeleteNot shocking. It'll be interesting if they just recast the character like Private Practice did or go a whole different direction like NCIS:LA did and create a new character.
ReplyDeleteDAMON WAYABS JR! BUT why did the other show got a go! New girl sounds better im sad
ReplyDeleteAnd pwahhaha finder funny
oh thank god...i hated her in bones!
ReplyDeleteThis was a good move :) she was soooo annoying on Bones.. I might actually watch this show now :)
ReplyDeleteOk, it's old news, but I decided just a couple of days ago to maybe give this show a try after all so I wanna catch up on some info ...
ReplyDelete... and I have to admit, I think it's kinda sad they're re-casting the character. /I/ liked her. 'Cause she was just so different. And the accent was a part of that. Well well.
I agree. Homer Simpson's voice was changed after the first few, same voice talent retained. It is likely she was told to do it that way. After all, when does the director start earning his paycheck? Losing the character through "re-conception" screwed up the dynamic. However, I can't be too surprised. As frivolous as "Bones" has become, one shouldn't expect much from "The Finder".
