Dilemmas will abound when “The Vampire Diaries” returns with six new episodes Thursday on the CW. The Klaus Chapter, as executive producer Julie Plec has dubbed the final episodes of the season, will be full of challenges and choices, not to mention some possible character deaths. As the series prepares to introduce the much-talked-about Klaus (Joseph Morgan), the biggest dilemma facing Elena (Nina Dobrev) and her friends will be figuring out how to kill the Original vampire before he can sacrifice her. They already know of one way to do the trick using the white oak ash-dipped dagger, but there's just one problem: The dagger is embedded in Elijah (Daniel Gillies), and taking it out would mean letting him come back to undead life.
“There’s one weapon, two originals. I wonder what’s going to happen,” Plec mused coyly during an interview with Showtracker. “That is their big conundrum. As soon as we get back from the hiatus, we’re going to start asking that question and seeing what our characters decide to do about it will be pretty big.”
Deciding how to handle the ritual and best protect Elena will cause tension between Stefan (Paul Wesley) and Damon (Ian Somerhalder), who have a difference of opinion on the matter. (Elena's biological parents, John (David Anders) and Isobel (Mia Kirshner), also put in their own two cents.) “Damon will stop at nothing to insure Elena’s survival,” said Plec. “Stefan is sort more willing to let Elena have a voice in the process. Damon doesn’t necessarily like what Elena has to say.” But just because he doesn't like what she has to say doesn't mean Damon's actions aren't loaded with feelings for Elena. Stefan not only will have to deal with the fact that his girlfriend could die — “The threat that Elena might not live to see her 18th birthday is definitely weighing heavily on them,” teased Plec — but also his girlfriend and brother's growing closeness.
“Damon and Elena’s closeness is a big obstacle in Stefan and Elena’s relationship,” said Plec. “Not because of how Stefan feels about it because he’s fully aware that Damon has feelings for Elena. It’s the decisions Damon makes and the actions Damon takes to protect Elena, which are in direct conflict often with the way Stefan would like the situation to be handled.
“Stefan is in the ultimate predicament, which is that he has this wonderfully solid, beautiful love story with Elena, but he’s also got a very complicated love story with his brother. So when he’s trying to achieve both relationships successfully, there’s always going to be a problem of 'I can’t kick my brother’s ass because he’s after my girl without losing my relationship with my brother, but I’m not going to let my brother go after my girl.' ”
Relationship issues will also be plaguing Caroline (Candice Accola) and Matt (Zach Roerig), who's now in the know about the town's vampires. “The future is complicated for them,” shared Plec. “When we first come back from hiatus, the very first question is, 'How is he going to ultimately handle this information, and what is Caroline going to do about it?' And the answer to that, which is in the first episode back, really sets the stage for some big relationship issues that will take us to the end of the season.” And then there's the inevitable return of Tyler (Michael Trevino), who's got his own stake in the Caroline-Matt relationship. “We can’t have a triangle without your third point. So one day, we will be seeing Tyler again.”

We pretty much knew all this...
ReplyDeleteJust one thing."So one day,we will be seeing Tyler again."
One day!?!Which day?!?I want specific date and time...
Honestly, I could really do without him. His character's not interesting, is dickish, and takes up too much screen-time.
ReplyDeleteI could easily make due without either of them.
ReplyDeleteI'm going to go on record here to say that the whole "one weapon two originals" deal is laughably, logic-defyingly stupid. It's insulting to the audience that we're expected to believe that this really is a dilemma.
ReplyDeleteThis is not rocket science. Cut Elijah's f*****g head off. He won't come back from that. If you have to be extra-special sure about it, you can pop open the skull and liquify his brains too.
That's exactly what I thought about him in season 1..I wanted both him and Caroline gone. But they've grown on me in season 2(not necessarily as a couple)!
ReplyDeletePlus, from time to time I kind of need a break from the Elena-Stefan-Damon storyline and I'm glad that the attention shifts on them, cause the alternative would be Jeremy and Bonnie. And while I'm fine with Jeremy, for some reason I can't stand Bonnie...
Once again, we're in agreement. I'm not really a Bonnie fan either.
ReplyDeleteUnless a chainsaw breaks from trying to cut his head off :)
ReplyDeleteOr he regenerates another head(or his head, another body)
No.
ReplyDelete- Vampires can heal but regenerating a head is out of the question.
- Damon impaled Elijah the first day they met. He's perfectly capable of being dissected. That's why this plot point makes no sense.
We do not know how it goes with originals, for all we know the head might just magically reconnect itself :)
ReplyDeleteI'm willing to take a lot at face value when it comes to genre shows, but if that were to actually be true I wouldn't be able to continue watching TVD. It would just be way, way, way to stupid. I wouldn't be able to take it seriously anymore.
ReplyDeleteWe are talking about beings who are MORE than thousand years old, can behead by a simple slap and are not even affected by fire WHILE "dead" and who might predate aztecs.
ReplyDeleteWe are talking about those beings in a show which takes place in town which is some sort of mystical power center, where we have at least dozen of witches, vampires, werewolves, visiting almost daily. the place which also has 200 year old witch ghosts, sealed tombs of evil, evil supernatural artifacts that can bring end of the world as we know it and even druids(mentioned in season1 by stefan that any remaining celtic druids for some reason relocated to mystic falls), together with at least one occasionally visiting succubus, two identical girls, one of which is the other's grandgrandgrandmama, who hail from a line of identical doppelgangers being born every hundred years or so for the pure purpose of dying to activate spell of apocalyptic proportions. Oh and we also have haunted witch massacre places of power, not to mention possibilities of shapeshifters(mentioned by alaric as common folklore element of mystic falls, when investigating whole doppelganger stuff) and god knows what else. Oh and half of the town people that matter are certified vampire hunters. Oh and by the way, oldest vampire in history, possibly few thousand years old is visiting to say hi. And we are still in show's second year, so god knows what else.
When watching this show its best to take "buffy-approach" to it in that - if it makes sense in the context of the show,it makes complete sense.
In this sense, it makes complete sense for fire-immune, thousand year old ungodly-strong supernatural beings to remain unaffected and NOT die from something as simple as beheading.
All of this would be true if Damon weren't able to impale one with an ordinary, non-mystical, non-magical piece of wood. But he was.
ReplyDeleteIf you can puncture the skin with normal, everyday wood, it stands to reason you can do more damage with more specialized tools.
If beheading isn't enough for you, they could always divide him into pieces and shove him into a wood chipper.
The Salvatore brothers are totally the true lovestory, here. So all this testosterone nonsense distracting them from the task at hand, needs to stop. Pronto. Stefan loves Elena, and his brother, as I hope Damon loves Stefan back. Ian said that Damon cannot lose his brother it will end him.
ReplyDeleteOn the other hand, Damons actions, rash, often cruel and violent, usually lead to someone Elena loves being dead or dying. Stefan, Bonnie and Elena have to be careful.
