  1. Fuckness...Supernatural didn't do good this week did it!

  2. It got the same amount of viewers as the last few eps. 2.2 mil seems to be the norm now. Fringe surprised me. I thought it would do better. I guess last Friday was a bleh day.

  3. Supernatural did fine. Any Friday show that can do the same or better than the Thursday night show in the same time slot is doing just fine. Hopefully it ticks up a notch to an even 1.0 in the demo which makes it one of the better performers for the CW. Keep in mind, Friday shows aren't expected to do as well as the rest of the week considering they're on Friday, but Smallville and Supernatural give the CW its 2nd best night of the week. No small feat.

  4. I also just found out that Scream 4 premiered last night, which might explain the ratings downward shift almost all across the board. Might. Who knows.

  5. I don't understand why more folks are not watching supernatural in the US - so disappointing that only 2mil bother. That's why good shows get cancelled. Why move it to a Friday night too - surely that is a 'going out night' weekend and all? Obviously doesn't reflect how many record it - unfair.

  6. Actually, that's not good. Since overall viewers don't matter, the demo 18-49 drop to 0.9 is annoying, especially since we've only had 4 other new episodes that low and 3 of them were when the CW was pre-empted in major markets like Chicago. We started at 1.3 in demo this year and stabilized at 1.0. We need to get back to that point. Not that the CW is going to cancel Supernatural since many of its shows would love to stabilize at a 1.0 demo. It's still a consistent performer for the CW, especially with VD and Nikita faltering also. However, they are getting a new head of the CW and it would be nice to have a 1.1 or higher to greet him/her when they take over.

  7. It's not 2 mil really, Jaclyn. The ratings are determined by families that have little boxes from the Nielsen Corp., so it simply a sample of viewers that get counted and are used as an average. For the record, I don't know -- nor have I ever known in my life -- anyone who had a Nielsen box. So the majority of fans of SPN are not being counted. It is a very unrealistic and inaccurate way to calculate viewers in this day and age, but, unfortunately, that's what we've got.

  8. I'm laughing at the idea of everyone running out to watch Scream 4. It's not my taste, but I guess it might attract the same audience as SPN. My best guess on the drop in ratings is the return of spring weather.

  9. Fringe didnt do well...

  10. I'm sorry for those who missed Smallville. It was an excellent episode. I've already watched it twice. Tom Welling did an amazing job in his dual role, The promos for the series finale were exciting too.

  11. Fringe did better than it's competition, more viewers, higher rating at that timeslot.

how come no one posted ratings for thursday shows?

  13. Are you looking at the same viewing figures I am? 3.63 and 1.3 are the lowest figures yet.

  14. Likely because Fringe and Supernatural are very popular here and both were new last night. Or they forgot. Here's the Thursday final ratings:

  15. Fringe is only in competition with other Fox shows. It got beaten in both viewers and demo by a reality show that is much cheaper to produce. That's why Fringe fans are bothered. Plus it was a season low for the show unless it goes up a tenth in the finals. No worries though because it was already renewed.

  16. hopefuly SPN demo will go back up, hiatus just kills your pace.

  18. Last night, for the first time in my life, I got counted on a Nielsen Box!!! We were house-sitting for a family with one... Now to find out how to get them to be out of town EVERY Friday! (+5 viewers for Supernatural)

  19. I think it would be better for the ratings to come from the cable companies, at least in part.. maybe a 2 party rating reporting system...

  20. :S .... nay... who cares its renewed, keep forgetting

  21. Yeah, got nothing to do with winning the timeslot, all to do with other Fox shows. You tell 'em, Dahne.

Also, when a show ties a series low in the 18-49, there's nothing good about that :/

  22. Super stoked to hear you added to the ratings. Nielsen is experimenting with online viewer numbers, but still have to be a Nielsen family. Sucks out loud.

  23. I only knew one family and they two boxes...one for the husband and one for the wife. They watched really off the wall stuff, if they watched at all. You can not go by Nielsen. Supernatural has a lot more viewers than the ratings show. The CW has to look at the awards won and the reactions of the fans. They need to look at conventions, the Internet, and what happens when they pull the show to put reruns of another show on in its place. lol There are reasons Supernatural is kept on. What we, as fans, need to do is remain vocal, remain rabid (I find that term almost disturbing, lol), and write. They have email addresses where we can give opinions and things. It's on the CW site. Let them know we are out there. There is a lot more than ratings that goes into a decision to keep a show. Still, I too would like to see over 1.0 demo for the new head when he takes over.

  24. I would like to know how many people really watch Fringe. Those 3.6 mill are only those with nielson boxes. I bet you there are twice as many who watch and don't get counted in the ratings. How can we find out? And don't suggest social networks because there are a few of us who don't do that.
And just because Fringe got renewed should not be an excuse to get complacent. Keep at it, promote and talk about it.
We just hire two new employees and on the second day I asked if they watch Fringe. They both said no but one of them is borrowing Season 1 already.

    ReplyDelete
  25. The 3.6 million is their best estimate for the total number of Fringe watchers in the U.S. I think there's only 5,000 homes with Nielsen boxes, but based on the percentages of people watching who are being counted by Nielsen, they can project a likely estimate of the total U.S. population and know what the margin of error is. There are formulas in statistics that can figure all of that out.
