awesome episode! just confused about the ending a little, was that katherine or elena pulling the dagger from elijah? i was thinking it was a compelled katherine getting information on bonnie for klaus, but then i thought, "why would klaus want elijah back alive?"
NO one died. Nothing changed. Klaus/BOnnie fight was weak. Stefan was stefan. Damon was damon. Elena was elena. Jeremy was as usually jerk. Bonnie was as usually annoying and overconfident. I damn hope we will get a dark side story for her latter on to justify her character. Otherwise having a character be like Season 6 Willow, but without magic drugs is...stupid. Plot was boring. Klaus/Alaric acting was only decent. Nothing "game-changing" happened. This episode just proved that all main characters have "plot armor" and will never ever die.
Aff all other 4 "game-changing" episodes are as weak as this.....i am even more disappointed.
Aff all other 4 "game-changing" episodes are as weak as this.....i am even more disappointed.
1. I'm glad, no one died. So should be you. Unless the corps would be John. No, I'm really glad no one died. I cried enough over Anna, Rose and some others. I wouldn't stand loosing Bonnie or Jeremy.
2. Bonnie is not a junkie to magic like Will was. (Did you miss Tara as much as I did? I cry every time I see that episode.) And Jeremy is not a jerk. He is the hottest human on the show. He is smart and intelligent … Logan was a jerk. Matt is an idiot. John is an asshole and bastard. Jeremy is cute.
3. What do you mean "nothing changed"? Of course things changed. Many things changed. Bonnie is still the secret weapon. Especially now, that Klaus thinks she is dead. And Elijah is back. Now they have 3 weapons against Klaus. Bonnie, Elijah and the dagger. That is more they had last week.
1. Shows without death are stale. TVD has pulled 'he is dead no he is not" card way too many times now. 99% of shows currently airing are boring because there is no drama, no suspense, no belief from viewer that anyone can bite the dust. So far only Joss Whedon has managed to do that in modern tv shows, first with Buffy(man i miss that show so much) and then in Firefly(which got fracked by the network). TVD was similar in beginning, but nowadays you just know that some annoying extras like Rose or Isobell will die while the main cast is absolutely safe. It takes away from suspense, and considering this episode was built as "omg tragic, game changing omg tragedy", this episode failed on that aspect. This was nothing more than a filler episode, like Rose's Dreamland.
2. hence why her hollier-than-thou, higher-than-you, better-than you, powerful attitude does NOT work. Tara's death. That was a high-point of the show for me and one of my favorite moments of show. I did not really care about her, but the death, the instant death, the tragicness of it, was only rivalled by death of Joyce NOwadays shows lack stuff like that. Logan was fun and unexpected character to watch, unlike Klaus/Alaric. He was entertainment. Matt is way overdue and unless they bring his mother's supernatural backstory., he has no point in show. HOWEVER, his death would only make the matters worse because frankly no one would ever care about them getting rid of Matt. There's no drama, no sadness, no heart-wrenching feel for viewers Its way to predictable and if in the end he is the supposed "important death", i will be done with this show. jeremy is....pointless and annoying. He has that generic "boyband" look and no point in the show. John is awesome. thats all.
3. Let's see: Elijah is still there. Klaus is still uberpowered. No one died. Damon is still "shady do gooder". Stefan is sitll annoyingly "white/good". Bonnie is still overconfident "secret weapon". Jeremy still whines around. NO progress on Jenna. NO progress on Klaus. NO progress on love triangle. NO progress on Lizz,Matt stuff.
The show could have gone without this episode and nothing would change. Considering these 6 episodes from 17 to 22 have been said to be "the game changing episodes where everything about the show and characters will change", so far it REALLy does not live up to the hype.
Game changer is what? Buffy season2 finalle was game changer. Buffy Season5 finale was game changer. Entire Buffy season6 was gamechanger.
This? This is more of the same old and its getting predictable. I love this show, but i fear that it is loosing its steam already.
Look forward to next episode with yet another "shocking" pretend-death, yet another "Damon is wrong Stefan is the holiest person"shtick and yet another "lets protect elena"plot, ending with yet another ömg did not expect that" cliffhanger.
So you miss Vicky and Anna to? I'm so sorry for Jeremy. First his parents died. Then he lost Vicky. After getting over it with Annas help, she dies to. I don't thing, he will get over Bonnie, if she dies. I mean, after Anna died he wanted to become a vampire, just not to feel the pain of loss.
And? Who is your favorite? Vicky or Anna. I liked Anna more.
Elijah, ha? He is a great character. In the back of my head I always thought, bringing him back would be their best chance. To fight an original, you need an original. Besides: the dagger is the best weapon they have. If Bonnie uses her power to kill Klaus, she dies to. It's risky to bring him back. He will be pissed off, when he returns. Just let's hope, Elena can talk to him, before he has the chance to kill someone (like Jenna, Jeremy or one of the brothers. I wouldn't miss John. You?)
Honey if you want a major character to die in every episode, the show wouldn't live longer than one season. Unless they find a way to replace every character. THAT would take a genius. Besides they would lose all fans.
To 100% safe are just Elena and the brothers. After all, this show is about her between the boys. Or it supposed to be.
All the others (Jenna, Alaric, Jeremy, Bonnie, Matt, Caroline) still can die. Don't give up. If they still live, they maybe have a important part in future episodes. We have to wait.
John is awesome? Have you forgotten your pills today? He is the biggest ass of all humans in the show. Great actor, no doubt. But his character is … I just want him dead. Or at least out of Elenas life. Father or not.
No progress o Jenna? Who cares about her? She is on the show, because Elena and Jeremy are both under age. If Elena would be 18 there would be no Jenna. She would take care of her brother (like Buffy did for Dawn after Joyce died).
I agree: no progress on love triangle. This show should be about Elena between Stefan and Damon. Somehow they forgot that with all the Originals, the sacrifice and moonstone.
I really want to know, how this Caroline-Matt-Lizz thing goes on. In the beginning of the season, when Lizz find out about Caroline, she hated it. But she accepted it. I just wait for that acceptance again.
Not in every. But in episodes that supposedly change the show, I do expect it.Imagine how boring Buffy Season2 would have been without deaths of Jenny, Keira and Angel? Or if Buffy came out all OK out of season finale of season5?
Oh yes i know that those three are the SAFEST. But let's look at others. The count of Oh I died No I did not: Jeremy: twice. Caroline: Three times. Matt: twice. John: Three times. Bonnie: twice.
One of reasons why buffy was such a great show was that IMPORTANT characters would occasionally be permanently killed off. NOw that was the show where no one was safe. Keira, Jenny, Angel in S2, Faith being put in coma in S3, Buffy in S5, Tara, Warren in S6 and so on. The show knew how to kill of characters and it did it brutally effectively and mercilessly, so when Cordelia got impaled by that metal stick in S3 or when Buffy talked about sacrificing Andrew in S7, the viewers would fully accept that IT MIGHT HAPPEN. Now in TVD, we all know nothing will happen to Caroline, Bonnie or Jermey or Jenna. We all know Alaric will turn out ok, we all know that extras like andie, isobell, maddox, etc will bite it. This episode was the last straw of viewer-believability. Now the show will have to do A LOT to get rid of "plot armor trope" it has built up.
John is an ass but he is a fun ass. He is snarky, he has personality, good and bad sides, chemistry with the rest of the cast and is damn awesome to watch as villain and as redeeming-hero. The actor managed to play up all those qualities and he has PRESENCE in the show. Sure he is huge ass to everyone, tried to kill everyone twice, is anti-vampire guy and so on, but damn if he is not a great character.
But Jenna is the show's Joyce. Buffy MILKED the potential of Joyce finding out buffy's little secret. What TVD does with it? Makes jenna go AWOL for few episodes. I damn hope we get some drama out of it, something either tragic or engaging to watch. jenna's reaction to the fact that everyone has lied to her constantly, that she almost unwillingly killed her foster-children by inviting vampires into the house and that people were killed in her own house is a GOLD mine. If everything goes yet again to status quo(Happy parenting Jenna in the house), the show will have missed a HUGE potential).
No, but Originals are good too. But there was no progress on lore too. This episode, literally did not bring ANYTHING new, except that Witches can fake their deaths. Mystic Falls with its hidden secrets, history, etc, has the potential to be TVD's Sunnydale and so far all we have seen out of it were two houses, school and a bar. I damn hope we will dwell on why this town attracts supernatural, on how founding families managed to kill a hundred of superpowerful witches, on why all remaining celtic druids moved into the area right before Founding Families officially founded the town and etc. There's a gold mine of interesting lore for plotlines.
And characters so far are not dynamic at all. Remember how personality of Buffy was shaped through the seasons? How she went from somewhat cheery punky troubled girl, to more cynical, jaded self to complete emotional wreck to suicidal knight-templar-type-of-character to a concentrated version of hatred against herself and others to a jaded cynical "ends justify the means" leader. Same with every character. Everyone changed and reacted to what happens.
TVD characters so far are stuck in the roles the show put them into in the start of first season and that's boring. And the episodes from 17 to 22 promised to show "characters reacting and changing due to events that happen" so far nothing of that...
Hey! You are a freak to Buffy, are you? Well, that makes two of us.
As I told you. The trio is absolutely safe. The others still can die. One or two of them probably will die at the end of the season.
And about the "I died, No I did not". This show has two things, Buffy didn't have. Vampire blood to heal you and the rings to bring you back from the dead. In Buffy, if you died, you died. Or you woke up as a vampire (or zombie). Buffy died twice. S1 she drowned and was reanimated by Xander. S5/6 she was killed and was brought back by Willow. Which worked only, because she was killed by mystical energy and not died on natural causes.
That is the difference between Buffy and the Diaries. In the Diaries they found a way to bring people back from the dead (or nearly dead). There would be way more corpses without the blood and the rings.
Yes, Mystic Falls turns out to be a second Sunnydale. Just without the Hellmouth under the high school.
Vampires, witches, werewolves, … And with Matts mother as a succubus there can be even more out there.
Yes, the characters in Buffy changed a lot. But they hat 7 years to change and evolve. In the Diaries not even a whole year passed. There were some changes in the characters.
Bonnie got stronger and more confident. She accepted her powers and embraced her faith. In the beginning she was afraid of her powers.
Jeremy is not a junkie anymore. He was depressed all the time. He is almost happy now.
And Damon. He changed a lot. As he said in the end of S1, he came back to destroy the town. Now he is defending it. Well, to be honest, the good he does de does for Elena. I think, he still hopes to have a chance having her if he pretends to be a good guy. And I'm disappointed he didn't make his move in the time, Stefan was trapped in that Tomb. It would be Damon of S1 to take this chance. He didn't. And when Rose took Elenas vervain necklace he compelled her to forget that he said he loved her. He could also manipulate her to fall for him. He didn't. He changed.
I know, this changes are not much. But it's a start. I too still hope the characters will change. It's really on time for the characters to change and go on.
i was really impressed ur arguament guys, i really like it...but the difference is buffy is buffy, and it has too much supernatural like going another world, zombie, and a vampire who has the ability of human, lol wht i didnt like about buffy was the vampire slayer thing,,,b.c like TVD ,a vampire and human shouldn't be same power/ability...vampire should be more and more stronger thn human, it has to have super speed, compulsion, high jump...but when it comes to buffy all they have is human/vamp..wht is the difference? ...the difference is the fangs. and the blood... all the others were equal with tvd...i stopped watching buffy when angel left, all i was watching buffy was the chemistry b/w buffy and angel......i still wonder why most people liked spike....ugrhh spike was entertainer...he had no chemistry with buffy.......
and TVD let me tell you something @Kitanishi ,,the TVD is the best tv show ever...there is no episode it sucked....every episode we see change and cliffhanger...i've watched more thn 50 tv show i swear i never seen a tv show who has so much cliffhangers like TVD ... let me remind you all cliffhanger vampire dairies done so far in season 2
season 2 episode 1: it ends damon kills jeremy and katherine kills caroline.......BEST CLIFFHANGER EVER episode 2: it ends tyler finds the moonstone ....it was ok cliffhanger episode 3: it ends katherine visits caroline and tells thy r gonna have so much fun together..... episode 4: it ends katherine came back for stefan, when there father shot them in 1864 and kiss stefan episode 5: it ends katherine kisses mason lockwood in a car ...good cliffhanger episode 6: it ends katherine compells matt to pick a figh with tryler untill he dies...nice cliffhanger episode 7: it ends elena being kidnapped by stranger episode 8: it ends damon compeling elena after his confession episode 9: it ends elijah compelling another vampire.... episode 10: it ends stefan gets in the tomb with katt best good cliffhanger episode 11: it ends rose's werewolf bite infection episode 12: it ends john pays visit to elena episode 13: it ends john visits katherine in to the tomb...best cliffhanger episode 14: it ends tyler leaves the town....good cliffhanger episode 15: it ends katherine gets out in the tomb episode 16: it ends isobel back ... wow episode 17: alaric possess by klaus........best cliffhanger ever episode 18: ELIJAH IS BACK ELIJAH IS BACK ELIJAH IS BACK ELIJAH IS BACK
