Burn Notice - The Fall Of Sam Axe - Preview

It's less than one hour before The Fall of Sam Axe premieres on USA Network (9/8C). And I, lucky person that I am, just finished watching an advanced copy an hour ago. Let me tell you, you are in for a great ride. It has everything Burn Notice is known for - humor, action, blowing stuff up, and even a hint of romance. However, you don't need to watch Burn Notice to get into this movie. It's not going to start an intellectual revolution, but it is a heck of a lot of fun.

The premise is that in 2005 Sam Axe unwittingly has an affair with an admiral's wife. To get back at him, the admiral sends him down to Colombia to gather intelligence on a new terrorist group. Things seem suspicious from the beginning and he soon realizes that the Colombian militia he's with have secrets that could get him killed. In typical Sam Axe fashion, he defies protocol and orders to determine the truth and help save the day.

My favorite part of the movie is all the humor. From the beginning montage to the great one-liners, the movie had me laughing. "Your best fighter is a goat herder." BWAH!!! I love it. Who else would use JV football plays to train an army? Add to that an unshaven Michael Westen, lots of explosions, "The Chin", and the evolution of Chuck Finley. I even liked the Colombian terrorist version of spaghetti western music. The story structure of an inquisition does get in the way a bit, but for the most time it moves quickly. There are questionable special effects and some things are cheesy, but that's Burn Notice too. All in all, it's a great 2 hours of fun. So sit back with a beer or cold Mojito and enjoy the ride (on a donkey).

Edited to add that the special effects in the TV airing were far better than the ones in the advance.

  1. Definitely enjoyed the the movie and heard we might even get to see some of the people from the movie in Season 5 of Burn Notice so that should be fun. Had the biggest smirk during the scene with Mike Weston and Sam, loved all the references to things on the show (namely Fi), I missed their buddy relationship.

  2. Glad you liked it. I thought it was funny and exactly what Burn Notice fans would expect. Not too much drama, pretty light and easy and action and humor. My favorite part: "They're the greatest part time farmer army ever." I laughed so hard I couldn't breathe.

  3. My only gripe I would say is there were a couple of times where it was too goofy, like at the beginning when they couldn't find the office where Sam was supposed to be have his hearing and teaching the 'army' the football plays. Sure funny, but seemed a bit too goofy.

And yes, I agree that was definitely a great part. Although I think the mention of Bruce Campbell's chin was my favorite part.

  4. I think it would have been better as a normal 45 minute episode... it felt too long and dragged out. Maybe just the lack of Michael Westen? Maybe the goofiness of it compared to the typical Burn Notice episode where Michael at least attempts to make it seem possible.

Loved the rise of Chuck Finley! It was nice to see Kiele Sanchez from The Glades playing basically the same role... typecast much? The inside jokes of "the chin" or the paraphrasing of Han Solo telling Luke to not get cocky... some funny stuff. In the end it made me miss Burn Notice more than give me a fix of Burn Notice.

Overall if this was the rating poll I would rate it "OK" or "good" if that was an option.

  5. So,

We recorded it on the DVR and the WWW wrestling thing before it went 5 minutes long. We got to the point where Sam is told it ends with a court martial. He replies" Well, there's one more part of the story" or something to that effect and the show runs out.

    Help?
