A month and a half ago, I made a list of a few things I would like to see in the 2nd half of the 6th season of Supernatural. So now that we took a break from the second half, I wanna go back to it and see what we can check. And also, theorize what's to come in the final episodes of the season. So, let's go back to that list:
1) Rock N' Roll- Check. The only song so far was Aerosmith's Back in the Saddle at the return-from-hiatus-ep recap, but it was so awesome and needed that it covers for lack of other songs so far. THAT'S how you come back from a hiatus.
In The Future- Hope we come back from this hiatus with a cool song too. And a few more won't hurt.
2) Emotional Talks- Double check. Sam getting his soul back led to some "How-are-you-feeling" talks, but mostly "I-need-to-right-what-I-wronged" talks. Plus, the funny jab it got on The French Mistake ("We'll have to blow the scene where they sit on the Impala and talk about their feelings").
In The Future- So far, so good. Keep'em coming.
3) Angels- Cas showed up for a bit on Like A Virgin, but with him, Balthazar and Raphael, The French Mistake helped filled up my needed divine portion.
In The Future- It appears Cas will get a female sidekick in a coming ep, so that's a thing to wait for. It has also been said that we'll see more of the war in heaven as the finale looms closer. About damn time. Seeing Ol' Balthy again would be nice too.
4) Big Baddy- More like Big Momma. Just when we thought monsters are bad, we found out there are Alphas. And just when we though Alphas are bad, we found out they all have a mother. And as the Khan Worm tells the boys- "She's pissed, she's here, and it's gonna be nothing but pain from here on in." That same Khan Worm, BTW, was CREATED by her. Yup, she can make new nasty creatures. I don't even wanna know that process.
In The Future- Mother's goal isn't 100% clear yet, but it's safe to assume she's planning a mosnter take-over. We saw the same plan with demons, but you can only see possesed people for so long. Monsters are more interesting, IMO. They come in all shapes and sizes. I wonder if Mother will be a 2-season villain like Azazel and Lilith, or is she here only for a one-season-stand like Lucifer (Hell, she'll only be here for half a season). We'll have to wait and see...
5) Campbell \ Braeden wrap-up- Half checked. The last surviving Campbells, Gwen and Samuel, were ganked in the last ep. Think we can say goodbye to them.
Lisa and Dean had ANOHTER talk of how they can't be together, bla bla bla. But it was said that we will see them AGAIN. Meh...I don't care if they'll be dead or alive by season's end, but please, cut them loose already!
And now more future theories and wishes:
It was told that Crowley's coming back. Apparently, he teamed up with Cas, and everything was an act or something in order to fight Raphael. I don't know if that's a very good plot move, but I'm glad Crowley's back. Mark Sheppard is a delight to watch.
I've been dying to get some heaven-war action, but it was denied of us so far. I though a good ep might be like Dark Side of the Moon 2- The boys die, go to heaven, and see all the chaos going on there. Anyway, I hope we get good stuff in the final episodes.
Cas getting a female sidekick sounds like fun. With Anna gone, we could use some divine eye-candy. But she better not steal his spotlight. Besides, I doubt she will survive longer than 3 episodes. THIS IS a female on Supernatural, after all.
And finally, a quick word about some returns:
Ellen - After her emotional death on last season's Abandon All Hope, bringing her back might seem like an insult to the character. But I trust the show to come up with something good. Too bad the lovely Alona Tal isn't also returning as Jo.
Chuck - Since there's debate about it, I can only say my opinion. I don't think Chuck is God. Why? Simple- Dean's amulet never burned around him. Sure, they can write around it somehow, but I don't think so. He just finished his job as a prophet, so he...Vanished. If that makes sense. But if he returns, perhaps he didn't finish his job after all...
It was also revelaed that the season ends with a cliffhanger, leaving us tearing our hair out. That only raises the almost-sure-thing of a season 7 renewal (Just announce it already, CW!). In the longshot chance of no renewal, we're gonna have a Kyle XY problem.
Well, these are my thoughts. Here's to awesome last episodes, and a close renewal!

I too am hoping for a "The Road So Far" montage when "My Heart Will Go On" airs. That, plus "TRSF" montages for the two-episode season finale would be enough music, imo, if they go with no rock 'n roll during the episodes themselves.
ReplyDeleteBalthazar is said to return in MHWGO, so that should be 'checked' as well.
If Crowley does return and if we do find out that Crowley and Castiel were looking for eachother, then that may bring in some details on Samuel Campbell's resurrection. They're all dead, sure, but the Campbell storyline is still wide open.
And even though I believe Chuck was a prophet as well, Joshua did still say the amulet wouldn't work anyways, so if Chuck was God, as Joshua's words, the amulet would not have burned red.
More music would be awesome...how awesome was Like a Virgin: Aerosmith and Jethro Tull!
ReplyDeleteHowever, I'm curious about something:
Lots of fans mention how they wish the show would go back to being how it was in the early seasons: more personal, more MOTW.
But had this season focused solely on Sam's soul etc. (without the war in Heaven, or the Mother or All...) and assuming that there would be no plot holes or loose threads with such a storyline (hypothetical situation here guys!) would anyone have preferred it?
I'm not trying to rile people up or start a fandom war, I'm just curious.
(Personally, I still enjoy the show, and if they had gone more simplistic I probably still would have enjoyed it just the same, who knows)
Well I am going to go on record here, today to say how I feel Supernatural should end.
ReplyDeleteDEAN IS GOD
Think about it....God's been missing for a long time. He masked his true identity even from himself, the writers can rationale it.
I think it's perfect and so huge, let's face it anything less for the ending of Supernatural wouldn't be big enough. I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts
Love your article. Really want to see more classic rock in the second half of the season. There is that sense of something missing without it. I also agree that the white picket fence Dean needs to be gone and to do that you have to get rid of Lisa. Ben might be another question since I totally believe Lisa lied and Ben is Deans ("a type" my aunt fannie!) I do think Dean needs a love interest but she needs to be in the life and tougher than Jo ever was - a kick ass alpha female to balance his kick ass alpha male. I am not happy about the Crowley/Cass connection although I do look forward to seeing Crowley again. But to have them in cahoots in the situation the boys were in at the time is a betrayal of them by Cass. And yes CW ANNOUNCE S7 ALREADY!
ReplyDeleteThat's too much of a happy ending, I think. Besides, they can't really rationale it in my opinion because God was seen to have been active in season 5 (putting them on the plane, resurrecting Cas...).
ReplyDeleteAnd it couldn't have been done subconsciously because then nothing bad/dangerous would have ever happened to Dean.
They are gonna go out in a Blaze of Glory and all, just not that type of glory, I think!
I mean, though, who knows.
Great post. :) I'm pretty sure we can expect it, but I'm hoping for an awesome finale montage with Carry on My Wayward Son", and the usual level of amazing. I'm not hard to impress, so don't fail me writers...or else. :)
ReplyDeleteIf they don't have Carry on My Wayward Son for the finale montage I will HURT somebody. :P
ReplyDeleteNot that I'm violent by nature, but you know what this show does to people.
ReplyDeleteIf they announce that they won't, then I will QUOTE DARTH VADER!
ReplyDelete"Don't make me destroy you, kripke..."
How about
ReplyDelete"I find the lack of season 7 disturbing"
Imagine what it does to people that are violent by nature...(maniacal chuckling)
ReplyDeleteIs it odd that I know exactly when Vader said that?
ReplyDeleteAnyways, that was hilarious. :)
Yes :P
ReplyDeleteWatch yourself..."the Emperor is not as forgiving as I am."
ReplyDeleteI'm so not scared of you..... or the Emperor :)
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I'm scared of is the rabid Samgirls/Deangirls. Now THEY are scary.
Guys, you're nerdirizing my Supernatural article, please...
ReplyDeleteOoooops! Sorry :P
ReplyDeleteWill try to do better.
Chuck is God. Not Dean. Not either of the brothers...
ReplyDeleteSorry about that. :)
ReplyDeleteI'm also waiting for some heaven and hell war as I think it will be one of the show's highlights. But I think they'll save that up to keep the viewers up on their feet.
ReplyDeleteI thought I'd start with what I don't want:
ReplyDeleteAny more resurrections. Ok Mary and Ellen coming back because Balthazar hates the movie Titanic and changes history I can live with. So long as everything gets put back to how it was at the end of the episode.
Crowley can come back because I just knew he wasn't really 'dead' as such anyway. (Probably lurking in purgatory so not really a resurrection)
Chuck, although not dead as far as we know, should just stay gone - I know lots of people want him back but I just found him annoying.
No love interest for either of the boys. Lisa is obviously not coming back in S7 - sounds like 6.21 will be the end for her and Dean. I may be in a minority but I like her. I just could never see a future for her and Dean so let's just move on. And if I wanted love stories I'd be watching something else. Please don't go there SPN. (Although the fangirl in me wouldn't say no to a shirtless scene here and there - but you don't need a love interest for that - just sayin')
Bobby to die/go to hell/anything else nasty. He's become such an integral part of the show, and one of the few Sam and Dean have to call family.
What I do want:
The renewed 'brother bond' to continue - which it looks like we're gonna get so yaaaay! As Dahne pointed out in another thread - it's so awesome to watch the boys communicate with just their eyes once again - and they trust each other again! I just love that.
The finale to be epic and scary and all the things a great SPN season finale has been in the past. I want to spend the hellatus wondering what the hell just happened and worrying about what's going to happen in S7. Call me crazy but I sooooo want that.
The angels to disappear from the storyline for S7 (Cas can stay but only if he's useful to the storyline - the nerd angel has grown on me a bit)
A recurring strong female character (NOT a love interest) who doesn't get ganked within the first few S7 episodes.
And finally, because I haven't already asked for enough, I want this awesome fandom of ours to learn to appreciate the diversity of opinion we have for our show, and to love it while we still have it. And for those who no longer love it to be able to move on to something else and not try to spoil it for the rest of us.
Ok shutting up now. :D
That would piss off SO many people. Not necessarily me, but whatev.
ReplyDeleteDid you miss the season 5 finale? Chuck all but revealed himself to be God.
ReplyDeleteChuck is NOT God. That is just to stupid. (Neither is Dean.)
ReplyDeleteAnd you don't have to be rude. Kripke left it to interpretation. He didn't give an exaxt answer, and at the end of Swan Song, Chuck came across as God to me. Even Rob Benedict referred to Chuck as God.
ReplyDeleteEven if Chuck does reappear and starts using God powers, I'm going to assume that it's just God taking Chuck's appearance (as I believe is very likely what happened in the Season 5 finale), since it's the only thing that makes sense. If they tell us very specifically that he's been God the whole time, I'll accept it, but it'll be another thing on the (still small) list of Supernatural flubs to me (like the headshots for zombies in Season 5 when they had to be killed a different way in Seasons 2 and 4, etc.).
ReplyDeleteFor the amulet, in Dark Side of the moon it was said that God can't hide himself from it, that even with the amulet they can't find God
ReplyDeleteAnd the writers said a lot of time ''We WILL see God'', and in on the DVDs Eric said ''we knew we wew going to show God'' or something like that, for me the more obvious choice is Chuck. It would explain why he was acting all nervous when he was talking to Dean, telling him he had no idea at all about how the story was going to end....But he did write (BEFORE telling Dean he doesn't know the end) that the impala is the most important thing on the planet. And also when he was talking about the girl, referring her as a ''friend''', who had the same nickame that refere to the prostitute 2000 years ago
I didn't intend to be rude. I was calling the bad joke by the Supernatural writers (the writer is god of the television show -ha ha- how funny) stupid, not you. I apologize if you were offended.
ReplyDeleteI think the writers intended to imply their little joke, but they didn't confirm anything. I much prefer the explanation that the prophet Chuck was assumed into heaven, like the prophet Elijah.
If they establish that Chuck was God all along it will confirm my opinion that Hollywood writers constantly produce ridiculous garbage when taking on the subjects of God, religion, theology and the after-life. (See Supernatural's version of heaven as an example of said ridiculous garbage.) There will be lots of eye-rolling on my part.
dean is not god. i think its john winchester, think about it. all 3 of his sons played a role in the angel/ lucifer thingimajig as they were vessels. why else would they be the true vessels if they were not themselves the sons of '"god".
ReplyDeleteChuck is the prophet, but God could easily have used him as a meatsuit for Swan Song and took him home.
ReplyDeleteI read on www.theotherlife.net (this is an Italian site but Google Chrome will translate it) that Misha has not been cast for season 7 and he will die at the end of this one. Have you heard anything about that or is it a huge secret being kept from the fans?
ReplyDeleteNo, not heard anything like that. I suspect it's just a rumour/foiler.
ReplyDeleteI hope so. But, it seems rumor always has a way of coming true. Let's keep our fingers crossed that this won't happen.
ReplyDeleteThis may be way out there, but do you think Cas could be behind Eve's escape from Purgatory to tie in with his was in Heaven? I understand his relationship with J2 and Bobby is going to change. Could this be the reason? Will Cas betray them?
The thing is, Supernatural has not been officially renewed yet, and
ReplyDeletethey won't have even started on any scripts/storylines yet :)
I know you'll let us know when you know. The mood at Paleyfest was so upbeat and happy that I just can't believe there won't be a season 7.
ReplyDeleteOh I totally agree. I think it's as good as done, just waiting for the
ReplyDeleteofficial announcement :)
What I really want explained is why did someone go to the trouble to bring back Samuel Campbell and Soulless Sam back. I'm aware of the whole purgatory thing but why did they want these two people. I'm sure they could have utilized hunters that were living.
ReplyDeleteI also think that Samuel Campbell was way under utilized. He was the link to everything they didn't know about their mother's side of the family. They have a history of hunting. Shouldn't they have done a little more with that.
I never believed the Crowley could bring Samuel Campbell back from the dead. He couldn't even spring all of Sam from his home turf. I assume that their was an angel involved. If as theorized above that Crowley and Cas are working together that would fit. Assuming Samuel actually was in heaven.
that's how I feel. He can't have been God from the beginning it makes no sense. And if you watch all the episode with chuck and then watch swan song its clear that he isnt acting like "Chuck". he is more calm and .. godlike LOL.
ReplyDeleteLOL this is sooo good ahaha
ReplyDeleteI liked the idea of Cas as God lol. When dean asked him in the finale my heart missed a beat LOL
ReplyDeleteoh and Dean being god lol NOT happening ahha. I think it would be soooo douch.. dont know why.. i just dont like it ahaha. Let's not end on God exist and its ME lol
My turn. What I want ....
ReplyDeleteOccasional rock music is always welcome.
I want to see both brothers laugh - a deep, heartfelt laugh that we haven't seen for several seasons.
I want to see Dean recognize that he has choices in life and stop acting like he's been forced into the hunter life - stop consciously choosing the life of a hunter and then angsting over the life he's chosen.
I want Sam to recognize that he's not Lucifer. I want him to stop overcompensating for every wrong that touches him, and to realize that the qualities that he shares with Lucifer - ambition, drive, the questioning of authority - don't have to be flaws, they can also be strengths.
I want the angels to stick around as occasional guests (same with Crowley) because they make things interesting. What would SPN be without Gabriel's and Balthazar's alternate realities? The exception to this is Cas - he's family and should stay as a regular. Cas can become human if that's what it takes to keep him around.
I want fans to understand that the show's main arc is neither Sam's story nor Dean's, but something bigger than either one of them. It was the apocolypse, and now is monster uprisings. Sometimes Sam has the more interesting character arc and sometime Dean does, but it's important to maintaining the quality of the show that both get their turn at screen time and character development.
I want to see Dean and Sam get more human contacts/friends in season 7. This can mean romantic relationships, as long as it doesn't turn into angsting over the life of hunting vs. being with that person - because we know they're not giving up hunting until this show is cancelled.
I want us to get back to the point where when the brothers have an "I have your back" conversation, people aren't talking about it like it's the highlight of the episode. I want trust to be the norm, rather than the exception.
I want at least two more seasons, and I want the show to know it's coming so that they can plan for it.
I want both brothers alive after the series finale.
Chuck was dressed in white in the last scene of Swan Song, and he disappeared with a knowing grin on-camera. No other being has appeared/disappeared on-camera. And one can further assume that an omnipotent being can control the glowey properties of an amulet (or control whether it can be seen by others).
ReplyDeleteKripke is cagey, but in my estimation, Chuck was indeed more than a prophet.
I think Chuck is not god, but Metatron the highest kind of angel. Metatron is celestial scribe of heaven.
ReplyDeleteHa, that reminded me of Alan Rickman on Dogma...That's a good movie.
ReplyDeleteI definitely think Chuck is God.
ReplyDeletewell, about Crowley's "home turf" - what kinda jail for Lucifer would that be if any "punk-ass crossroads demon" could just come in and easily get him out))) Samuel must've been in Heaven, but I guess it is not such a trouble for demons, at least the high-level ones. and there is a civil war in there)
ReplyDeleteand I can only think "how does Samuel know ALL that stuff? why doesn't anybody else know that stuff, not even Bobby with the tons of his books???" and I think it is the only explanation for Crowley bringing back Samuel - even if he'd need an angelic assistance. but it seems like guys just blew this opportunity.
I thought Crowley was claiming to be the King of Hell.
ReplyDeletewell, indeed he was) and how could he not be))
ReplyDeletebut who do you think was Azazel? and Lilith - the very first demon.
I know that ;) I was addressing Jeanette.
ReplyDeleteThat would actually be really cool. A definite alternative to Chuck being god, and one I'd be on board with 100% :)
ReplyDeleteSupernatural needs more JDM! Bring back John!
I guess we'll just have to wait and see if demons can enter Heaven.
ReplyDeleteAny ideas on why Crowley wanted Sam back?
maybe Crowley was sentimental xD
ReplyDeletemaybe he thought that Samuel was))
but seriously I think he knew something that we don't, something what Death was talking about before he retrieved Sam's soul - that the brothers are in the front of the balance of the Universe.
oh, and it just bumped into my head - he brought Sam from that cage just because he could and wanted to show to everyone who's "the big man on campus")))
I never thought about it in terms of a display of power. Nice idea.
ReplyDeleteI always interpreted that Death was referring to either the way Sam died which couldn't have been considered natural or the fact that a soulless being was walking around.
I've had an ongoing theory about Chuck for a long time that sorta fits with what you said. I think that Chuck died in the season 4 finale with Cas but God took his place and pretended to be Chuck the prophet fromt hen on and then disappeared at the end of S5. If Chuck returns it could be God checking in on things or Chuck returned from Heaven because his job as a prophet isn't over (or because some angel wants to use him like they were using him before).
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting thought. I could see it working. I still think I'd prefer it better if he was only God in the Season 5 finale or not at all (and that fits with what Kripke said - saying that God wouldn't appear in the first half of Season 5, and those are the only episodes Chuck appeared in besides the finale), but this answer would certainly be alright if it did turn out that Season 4 Chuck was just a prophet the entire time.
ReplyDelete
