Welcome to another Question of the Day. Today's question comes from Billy who asks
"What features of a DVD/Blu-Ray do you enjoy the most?"
Me personally it depends somewhat on the show. For one of my favourite shows Lost I loved all the Easter Egg sections and the Bloopers etc. I also enjoyed listening to the Audio Commentaries for some select episodes.
So what about you? What special features of a DVD do you enjoy the most and why?

All of the above, and one more: subtitles. Now, to those who are able to get captioning on their TVs, it wouldn't matter, but my TV doesn't do that. Sometimes the actors mumble, or the music is too loud, or the dialog is just complex. Being able to read and hear at the same time increases my understanding of what is going on. I've rewatched all of Lost that way, and it really made a difference.
ReplyDeleteThe Lost DVDs are standouts in the DVD extra category. The bloopers are funny, the audio commentary gave insight, the interviews with writers and directors explained a lot, and the BTS with the cast were grea funt. I have mixed feelings about all the searching the disks for Easter eggs.
I watched the first two seasons of Fringe on DVD so I could catch up. Don't remember if there were any extras. I'm currently watching The Wire. It's so neat that we now have the DVD capability so we can see quality shows that we never heard of till they were over and done.
I really loved the xtended version of 3.09 "Unfinished Business" on the Batlestar Galactica DVDs
ReplyDeleteThe gag reels have to be the best, especially on Supernatural, because it always seems like the bloopers get funnier every season!
ReplyDeletedeleted scenes sometimes they're even better then some that made it in. ;) can't wait for the DH p1 deleted scenes.
ReplyDeleteI love commentaries and a good gag reel.
ReplyDeleteI always get excited for Comic Con because they air a sneak peak of the Supernatural gag reel.
ReplyDeletei wish they had bloopers w/ the harry potter dvds/bluray tho, but yes, the deleted scenes should be pretty good!
ReplyDeleteBloopers-Supernatural bloopers could be a how all by itself
ReplyDeleteI clicked every single one... But I love commentaries.
ReplyDeleteBloopers and deleted scenes, definitely. I'm still waiting for the day when the Stargate / MGM / SyFy idiots get together and say 'hey, our fans WANT that stuff' and you know, release a special DVD full of bloopers from all the seasons. Or maybe they could re-release the series as a special 'fan' boxset that's choc full of bloopers and deleted scenes. Lord knows there are always deleted scenes (like the kiss between black!team Sam and Cam in 'Ripple Effect' which one of the producers nixed because it "didn't fit his vision". Ack, fans want to see that stuff! lol
ReplyDeleteDirector/Writer commentary. It's obviously the most insightful.
ReplyDeleteI love commentaries. I think Psych does a fantastic job with their DVDs. They have great commentaries with the creator/producers/cast/writers, bloopers, and deleted scenes.
