Today's Question of the Day comes from rochey_1 who asks
"Dialogue/Quote in a Movie or TV Show that resonates with you, or has had a lasting effect on you ?"
Pretty tough question.
I'll start by listing some of my favourites and then let you know my favourite.
- "I bet you can squeal like a pig." AND "Now let's you just drop them pants...Just take them right off." (Deliverance)
- "Stand up. Your father's passing." (To Kill a Mockingbird)
- "I love the smell of napalm in the morning...Smells like victory." (Apocalypse Now)
- "Sometimes being a bitch is all a woman has to hold on to." (Dolores Claiborne)
- "I'll be back." (The Terminator)
"Frankly, my dear, I don't give a damn!" (Gone With the Wind)
"May the Force be with you." (Star Wars)
But my all time favourite is
"Go ahead, make my day" - Clint Eastwood in Dirty Harry
So what about you? What are some of your favourites? And which is your all time favourite? Sound off in the comments and if you have a link to a video of the quote, post that to!
You can see previous Questions of the Day here.

I'm going with Chandler's quote to the twins in the series finale of Friends. "Look around, you guys. This was your first home. And it was a happy place, filled with love and laughter".
ReplyDeleteIt's stuck with me all these years because it was true about the apartment on the show. And it's one of my favorite quotes from the show.
Very cool quote, thanks for sharing
ReplyDeleteDon Draper: "What you call love was invented by guys like me to sell nylons". Mad Men Season 1.
ReplyDeleteJust a few ones I love
ReplyDelete"We are of peace. Always" - Anna, V
"Tonight's the night. And it's gonna happen again and again" Dexter, Dexter
"Noooooooooooooo!" Agent Daniel Shaw, Chuck - after discovering that Sarah killed his wife
Chuck quotes, of course!
ReplyDelete1. "Guys...I know Kung-Fu"
2. "Guys...I know Kung-Fu, again."
3. "Stay in the car, Chuck!"
As a raging LOST fan (with many many excellent quotes from which to choose), the one that has stuck with me since the series finale is when Jack and Locke are lowering Desmond into the source:
ReplyDelete“You are not John Locke, you disrespect his memory by wearing his face, but you’re nothing like him, turns out he was right about most everything. I just wish I could have told him when he was still alive.”
The turns out he was right about most everything line was one of the major moments of the series. It was verbal acknowledgement that Jack had changed and Locke did not die for nothing.
The TV series that has the most lasting effect on me is Arrested Development. You could literally throw a dart at a script page... any page, and you would hit something funny. Arrested has the highest "laughs per episode" ratio of any show I have ever watched. In all likelihood it is DOUBLE of its nearest competitor! Non-initiates be warned: Before going out and renting or watching Arrested Development, you should be aware that you may have a sore jaw from smiling and laughing too much, a sore stomach for fits of belly laughs, and in extreme cases... neighbors have called nearby psychiatric care hospitals to see if any patients have escaped.... so it's always good to tape a note on their doors in advance explaining your upcoming thunderous fits of hilarity. And remember... "There's always money in the banana stand!"
ReplyDeleteFrom Pulp Fiction:
ReplyDeleteBacon tastes gooood. Pork chops taste gooood.
I just love the way John Travolta delivers that line. Then in the next scene, the bit about hamburgers, the Big Kahuna Burger, the Royale because in Paris you can't say Quarter Pounder because of the metric system, all those lines delivered during a shootup. Love that crazy movie. Oh, also:
"Say something."
"Something."
"It's not about right, it's not about wrong...It's about power....." - Buffy Season 7
ReplyDeleteLove it!! Love the whole scene actually, so powerful.
And, Love Actually - "I am Colin, God of sex....I'm just on the wrong continent, that's all...." lol, makes me laugh sooo much.
obviously my favourite Chuck quote that Sarah Walker sair
ReplyDelete"Without you I'm nobody. I'm nothing but a spy. Come back to me. Chuck. I want to marry you."
"Locke: Why do you find it so hard to believe?
ReplyDeleteJack: Why do you find it so easy?
Locke: Its never been easy"
Such pure intensity and conflict in such a short space of time.
Chandler: "What do you know, your just a door, you just like knock knock jokes. (Laughs) Save it for inside"
"Recognise motherf**ker" - Above The Rim
"I'm Ron Burgundy?!"
So many to chose from. But my favorite is from the movie Steel Magnolias
ReplyDelete"I'd rather have 30 minutes of wonderful than a lifetime of nothing special." - Shelby to M'Lynn
I don't always like Tarantino movies on the whole, but one thing I will give him.... Quentin can write dialog! It's some of the best "every day" dialog.. not amped up to make statement. The words themselves could be heard on any street, but they have impact.
ReplyDelete''See ya in another life brutha'' -Desmond (LOST)
ReplyDelete''Go deep, take anything that might lead them to her!'' - HRG (Heroes)
"Damnit, WHO DO YOU WORK FOR?'' -Jack Bauer (24)
just a few favs. ;)
The Big Kahuna dialoque is just a classic:

The prayer from The Boondock Saints was the first thing that popped into my head:

But this movie had some other quite memorable dialoques and quotes:

Most of my favourite quotes are from Donnie Darko. Here´s a few:
ReplyDeleteGretchen: Donnie Darko? What the hell kind of name is that? It's like some sort of superhero or something
Donnie: What makes you think I'm not?
Dr. Lilian Thurman: What did Roberta Sparrow say to you?
Donnie: She said, "Every living creature on earth dies alone."
Donnie: Why do you wear that stupid bunny suit?
Frank: Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?
And the smurf conversation is brilliant (but long, so I didn´t include it).
The Donnie Darko one that is my favourite is
ReplyDelete28 days... 6 hours... 42 minutes... 12 seconds. That... is when the
world... will end.
I know - Love that quote!! I was so sure that the numbers in Lost had sort of the same meaning as they did in Donnie Darko.
ReplyDeleteI could go on and on about all the awesome quotes in D. D. :-)
Kevin Smith movies had some pretty good conversations.
ReplyDeleteI loved this one in Dogma:
"Last 4 days on earth. If I had a dick I'd go get laid. We're gonna do the next best thing."
"What's that?"
"Let's kill people!"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=maqUW3QIByo
I too, love Desmond's "see ya in another life brotha" and it's now become an inside joke between me and my brother. He went through a rough spot in life, to put it lightly, and at the time LOST was one of the few things we could agree on. I also love John Locke yelling "Don't tell me what I can't do!"
ReplyDeleteHah!! Oh yes, the cornerstone of a nutritious breakfast. I love dark humor :)
ReplyDeleteAlot of good quotes in most Smith movies.... My favorite quote from Dogma.
ReplyDeleteLoki~ "Any moron with a pack of matches can set a fire. Raining down sulphur is like an endurance trial man. Mass genocide is the most exhausting activity one can engage in... outside of soccer. "
I am fairly positive more than 100 people have said "Don't tell me what I can't do!" on various TV series or movies. No matter... the only one that sticks in my mind is John Locke! EVERY TIME I hear some one say that, I flash to one of the times Locke said it.
ReplyDeleteI never understood that movie. i saw it a few years ago when i was younger but i dont think i would get it even now :)
ReplyDeleteIn a word..."Dude!" or "Dude.", or "Dude?" Thank you Hurley for being you!
ReplyDeleteI love so many series, and there are so many quotes I'd love to share with you, guys but I'm gonna choose one , a Fringe one :
ReplyDeleteOLIVIA, to Peter : " You know what Barrett said ? He said that he looked into her eyes and he knew that it wasn't her.[...] But when I was over-there, I thought about you, I knew that you were just a fact of my imagination, but I held on to you, and that wasn't reasonable, and that wasn't logical, but I did it, so... why didn't you ? She wasn't me, how could you not see that ? Now she's everywhere, she's in my house, my job, my bed, and I don't wanna wear my clothes anymore, and I don't wanna live in my apartment, and I don't wanna be with you... She's taken everything ... "
And PETER, alone : " I'm sorry ... "
That's in the episode Marionette, at the end, I think that's so beautiful and sad... Just love it :D
Yeah that was heartbreaking...Wasn't it ?
ReplyDeleteEspecially the "she's taken everything"
And it's not Peter's fault...but in that moment, watching Anna Torv's face...I kinda hate him a little bit :((
At this moment, there are 6,470,818,671 people in the world.
ReplyDeleteSome are running scared.
Some are coming home.
Some tell lies to make it through the day.
Others are just now facing the truth.
Some are evil men, at war with good.
And some are good, struggling with evil.
Six billion people in the world.
Six billion souls.
And sometimes, all you need is one.
- Peyton Sawyer, One Tree Hill 3x01
Oh yesss, really heartbreaking :( mostly, as you said : "she's taken everything" and Peter who says " Im sorry..." alone ... That was really really sad :( But now, they are... really better ;) but it's not over ... :P
ReplyDeleteV :
