    I like Dule Hill in the West Wing... I assume he cranks up the funny a bit in Psych though?!

    On more than one occasion, Shawn Spencer (the show's lead) takes digs at The Mentalist, presumably because of the two shows superficial similarities.

    But, to answer your original question, no. Psych is a show that never takes anything seriously. It's as close as you can get to an hour-long sitcom. It really has little in common with The Mentalist.

    psych always takes puns at the fact the the premise for the mentalist is very similar to it. and the fact that psych came out first
    but psych is a comedy. and its hilarious
    you should really watch it

    I got into Psych after an article posted on this site "The best show you're probably not watching" I am up to season 3 and I love it. Even though its jokes are very '80's and my knowledge of '80s pop culture is rusty i still find it freaking hilarious. seriously watch it. same light heartedness as chuck... its like if a cooler version of JD from scrubs was a detective and a less cooler version of Turk was his sidekick... hilarious.
