You like Seaver? I wasn't a fan of Elle, but she was more interesting to me than Seaver... She just does nothing for me. She feels so forced to me... They got rid of JJ and popped in Seaver.... Of course, I thought JJ was pretty dispensable through the first season... Maybe I just still have a bone to pick with Seaver from when she told Reid "Sorry I asked" on the plane shortly after she joined up with them (he was talking about Doctor Who). She was still in the academy, but felt comfortable knocking a verteran BAU member with 3 doctorates.... Nope, not a good start for me.
This may sound crazy coming from a guy, but this show needs more females, I miss the days when the team was balanced, and since we're stuck with Seaver, I'm glad to see they are at least attempting to incorporate her more into the storyline. Plus as you said, JJ had to grow on us, so I imagine Seaver will too eventually. Not to mention I have yet to see all the episode up till now. I've only recently gotten into "Criminal Minds" since "LOST" occupied my Wednesday nights for much of CM's run. I have been catching as many episodes as possible on A&E when they run them, and I picked up this season about a third of the way in.
Seaver is my fifth favorite character ever on the series after Gideon, Reid, Garcia and Hotch in that order. She was more interesting in her first few episode than Elle ever was in her year plus, and had more backstory and personal interest than Prentiss did in 5 seasons up until the last exit story arc.
Plus Seaver is not a replacement for JJ at all, she is a replacement for Prentiss if anyone. One agent for one agent. JJ was cut because the character was unneeded as far as the actual premise of the series goes. FranklyI don't view her as a replacement at all. She is more of a new character than Prentiss was being that she is the first newbie we have seen on the tam ever. It totally changes the dynamic and makes it fresh to me.
I like a bit more of a a balance too honestly. If it came down to one less female (JJ) to keep the show running, I was all for it since I would still get more episodes of the show I like.
I guess I was glad that if they were going to lose Prentiss too that they added another female. Then to me Seaver was the best intro of a new character they have had... better than Prentiss's introduction and better than Rossi's too. I don't have any attachment to her, but that comes with years of viewing if at all. It isn't fair to compare a new character to an established character. One has to compare them at the same points in the series.... the first 5-10 episodes of Seaver compared to Prentiss' or Rossi's first 5-10 episodes. IF I do that Seaver comes out ahead and I like Rossi A LOT.
It´s been a long time since I ¨ve seen such a complex episode. This season lot of the previous ones felt like lousy work. I though it was because of the new spin-off, so I am excited that we got a nice old-times CM eppie.
The storyline was good but the team just didn't feel right. From the beginning when they met for the team meeting, something just seemed wrong. Nothing fit. I guess Seaver graduating from the academy was supposed to make everything okay. Well it didn't. The team looked so small in the opening credits. It's really kinda sad. Even Garcia's character didn't seem the same. I was tempted to change the channel, but my loyalty to the show kept me from doing that. The powers that be better hope AJ doesn't find something else and that Paget's new show fails so they can put the original team back together. Hotch and Rossi hinted that they're looking for a new profiler. I don't understand why when the show had a formula that made it one of the highest rated shows on television. I hope the bigwigs are happy with themselves. They've all but destroyed one of the best shows on TV.
Agreed. I think the last handful of episodes have suffered due to the Prentiss story arc. Her back story was taking 10 minutes or so from every episode so they never had enough time to really get into any of the unsubs in the normal detail.
Awesome episode and thank gods it's back to the more traditional formula of 100% plot around the unsub of the week with no Prentiss distractions! It was so nice to have the show be about the case again and not about the team or one member.
I loved when Rossi reinforced the point that Seaver is NOT a replacement for Prentiss, but I bet many fans don't buy into it. Even if that s directly from the writers minds and proof enough for me for what I've felt from the beginning.
Felt really good to me to see deep into the suspect's head and FEEL the case again. It made me empathize for how hard it must be for Schizophrenics... no wonder so many commit suicide! Then the tie in to Reid's personal life was a great connection to make it hit home. I mean he must be bad off if he only read 5 books last week! Ha!
Easily one of the best episodes of the last 5 to 10 for sure!
Personally I felt this WAS the show getting back to the formula that worked to make it a hit series. It's all about the unsub, the darker the better, and exploring what causes them to kill.
The show has never been about the team really. They are a means to show the criminal minds every week.
Plus you had to like seeing Ash from SPN back on TV I would think.
I don't see how the the Prentiss story arc made the pervious episodes suffer? It managed to pull viewers in the entire time (especially Valahalla). This episode however took a dip in ratings for CM...they lost viewers in the final 30mins.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Glad to see they are involving Seaver more now, lets hope they get a good replacement for Prentiss.

I MISS PAGET/PRENTISS! Please CBC bring her back, this "team" is not the same...feels like there is a missing link!

ReplyDeleteelle more interesting then seaver ?
ReplyDeleteseaver is the child of a serial killer and still a top fbi agent.
elle was an expert in sex crimes.
