Nikita - Did New Promo Say Too Much?
Mar 10, 2011
Nikita
The new Nikita "One Moment" promo was released on Tuesday. (You can view it here.) But did the video give away too much? And what does it mean for the series? I break it all down for you here. SPOILER ALERT.

By reading your article I can tell that the CW got the promo right. Good for them. You've got tons of questions and you (along with a slew of others) are thinking about this a lot. Mission accomplished. Whether you agree with the content of the promo or not, it did its job. It got people talking AND it kept people interested.
ReplyDeleteThe Hellcats people should be taking notes.
AWESOME Write up!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI agree with all your commentary. I fall on the side of... IF this is for real and not a dream or charade, I HATE it and it could easily ruin the series. Their romance was in the past and needs to stay there for the series to be effective.... at least until the final story arc of the series itself. Then, Michael and Nikita can get together and try to take down Section 1.. erm Division or escape it for good.
Very true that it did it's job...it got reactions - STRONG reactions.
ReplyDeletewell, If I am a die-hard Mikita fan (& thank God I'm not) sure I would be in some kind of coma by now but I thought this is a ridiculous move by CW .. that's it! I'd hate it if the show goes the "HOUSE" way x(
ReplyDeleteWell.. it was inevitable it would happen and it was the first thing that popped in my head after Michael found out about Nikita and Alex. Honestly I look at this show a little like Alias without all the crazy Rambaldi mythology. Division = SD-6, Percy = Sloane, Gogol = Sark, etc.
ReplyDeleteMy point being that even once Division is gone, they've been setting up Gogol as the next enemy since the first half of the season. In Alias, SD-6 was taken out halfway through Season 2. At this rate I could see Division gone by around the same time or the end of season 2, or at least presumed gone. Sloane always managed to get away and cause havoc again just like I assume Percy will, but I think focus will shift to Zetrov/Gogol for a season or so after Division is assumed defunct so Percy's storyline isn't totally worn out. I just feel like they're gonna have to shake up the formula like they did halfway through season 1 to keep it fresh.
Uhm, no. Their relationship is the strongest on the sow and they have been dragging the sexual tension between them for far too long now. It could become annoying, but they're doing it and to be honest, I love it. I like that Nikita is not a dragging show, the could've easily wait half a season to reveal that Alex works with Nikita, and another half to have her become a field agent, but they didn't, so bring on the Mikita, I'm sure the writers will find a way o keep their relationship fresh and interesting.
ReplyDeleteBravo, mte.
ReplyDeleteThe article was just right. I think the writers should get Nikita back inside Division some how. She needs to be working from the inside out but not with moles. I don't know how they would do it but that would be a great twist and no one would expect it especially since Percy has been trying to kill her for months.
ReplyDeleteI loved the dynamic between Michael and Nikita on Le Femme Nikita, but they worked TOGETHER in Section (Division on that series).
ReplyDeleteFor Nikita to go against Division and be with Michael while he works within Division is contrary to her mission statement... unless Michael takes down Division with her. If that is their goal it may work. It has to be handled delicately or it could end up making Division seem like a straw house if it collapses too easily.
But mostly, This series is about ONE relationship only.... Nikita and DIVISION!.THAT is the central thrust and changing that changes the entire show. Certainly, it can be done, but it is risky since most people that watch espionage shows watch for the stories and not the relationships. Undercovers failed for that very reason.
As for the promo, the CW did a good job here, they got the attention they wanted, people want to find out whether it is a dream or reality, it is a new show and needs something strong to end with, since next year it has competition from a bunch of pilots which might be more interesting (being new and all), getting people invested now, gives the CW the viewers they need next year.
ReplyDelete+ Michael joining Nikita in the end... was not difficult to predict that one I guess, but will see what happens, the CW and its shows love their twists... =P
I disagree with thinking it says to much, atleast until we see the eppy...How do we know this isn't in somebody's dream or something??? Don't read much into it until we see it live. All I'm going to say, no need to overreact. If this is real, it's about Damn time and I love it, if not I'm not getting my hopes up. Chillax people :)
ReplyDeleteWhen I mentioned Alias below I wasn't saying they should take out Division just so Nikita and Michael can be together like what happened in Alias. And I want it to be believable and not something that seems farfetched when they take them down. I wasn't a huge fan of how that went down but thankfully Nikita handles that stuff much better. But I don't think they'd introduce Gogol and Zetrov and make it all such a huge revelation if they didn't plan on exploring it fully later on, unless they're just the third party that constantly arrives to screw things up.
ReplyDeleteThey present a route to explore when things start getting repetitive. The first half of the season was a little claustrophobic for me with Alex always stuck inside Division. If they had done that the whole season it would've been much worse. They have a lot of opportunities to explore right now with all the freedom but eventually the format will get tiring. Alex has to get discovered by Division sooner or later. Michael has to choose where his loyalties really lie sooner or later. Getting the rest of Division's black boxes shouldn't take years, and when they do have them it should lead to something worthwhile or it'd seem like they're running in place.
If this same exact form of Division is still standing season after season with all the work they're putting into taking them down right now it would probably get stale. It'd be cool to see it burn to the ground and be built up again in a different incarnation cause I know they could do it better than Alias, and I feel like in the interim exploring Zetrov and Gogol in Russia would be interesting and wouldn't feel like a meandering plotline.
Exactly, the promo did its job,I see nothing wrong with it,if not the CW finally got something right..and yeah Hellcats producers..plz look into how you'll are promoting your show.Learn soon or it will go off air:(.
ReplyDeleteOkay, I'm a huge fan of Nikita, but I don't get it why people make such a big fuzz about the new promo...
ReplyDeleteI read on wetpaint's nikita fansite ( if it's true) they will be posing as a married couple, and seeing vulnerables side of both Nikita and Michael. So I hope the kiss isn't a dream sequence.
ReplyDeletethe sexual tension would have dragged out too long (if the kiss was just a sequence) and they are already ready and prepped for season 2 (maggie q's twitter) so I hope the couple works out well!
