There are a lot of great actors out there. In fact, my list of favorite actors is probably at least two dozen long. But rare are the actors so great that they command attention. Check out my list of the five most arresting actors, and let me know who you can't take your eyes off of!

I don't know 3 of them, but Daniel Craing and Timothy Oliphant are indeed amazing actors.
ReplyDeleteMy top 5 off the top of my head: (I also am including actresses...)
ReplyDelete1 Anna Torv -- "Olivia" on "Fringe": Holy crap, how can you put SO MUCH nuance into every single version of a character, and then add a
2 John Noble -- "Walter" on "Fringe": I do not shed tears for tv shows or movies...I just don't. Well, I DIDN'T and now when this
3 Archie Panjabi -- "Kalinda" on "The Good Wife: As demonstrated, cross this woman, and she'll take you down. With a bat, with a well-placed jab in the gut, or sudden legal action. Don't &*#% with Kalinda.
4 Bryan Cranston -- "Walter" on "Breaking Bad": The man is a freaking genius! Perfect for comedy, and even better with insanely good drama! AGHHH...
5 Michael C. Hall -- "Dexter"...on "Dexter": he's just spot-on, and can do crazy, manipulative, honest, feigned normalcy, existential woe, and cold-blooded murderer like no one else.
I've always liked Andre Braugher and I wish Gideon's Crossing would of worked out for him. I'm okay with the rest of your picks, but Ben Daniels? L&O UK is alright but his character (not to mention the show) is a bit ham-fisted, no?
ReplyDeleteI always said Michael C. Hall deserves a freakin' Oscar. Not an Emmy, a freakin' OSCAR! He plays so many emotions to perfection. Funny, awkward, and downright creepy. And to that, I'll also add John Lithgow
ReplyDeleteDid you ever see the FX mini-series called 'Thief'? Andre Braugher player a semi-retired thief who comes back for "the last big score" after being talked into it by his crew that consists of Malik yoba, Clifton Collins J., Yancy Arias and also stars Michael Rooker and will Yun Lee. Andre was AWESOME in that.
ReplyDeleteOh yes. I remember. It was a good program. That show also had Mae "Ann Veal" Whitman from Arrested Development.
ReplyDeleteSo many actors I love, but five I tune into most anything they star in: No Order
ReplyDeleteAndre Braugher
James Spader
Edward Norton
Kevin Spacey
Christian Bale
I used to add Robert Downey Jr. and Nicolas Cage to the list, but Lately both have been doing "big" movies to make cash and not showing their acting chops.
Actresses:
Meryl Streep
Anne Hathaway
Charlize Theron
Dakota Fanning
Julian Moore
Her?
ReplyDeleteLOVE Olyphant! He should have made my list, but I have been watching a lot of Boston Legal lately and Spader is on my mind....
ReplyDeleteYeah. You don't remember? Almost all of her scenes were with Braugher.
ReplyDeleteDominick West. He was McNulty on The Wire. So believable and his face told a million emotions.
ReplyDeleteJulianna Margulies. The reason to watch E.R., and now on The Good Wife, best actress on TV.
Anna Torv. Second best actress on TV.
Laura Innes. Sophia is one mysterious lady on The Event, as her Kerry Weaver was a commanding presence on E.R.
Matt Damon. Just such a good actor. He never chews up scenery, rather he is restrained yet powerful.
Tommy Lee Jones. Always good.
No.... I was quoting Michael Bluth... or GOB Bluth... or George Sr. whenever George Michael Bluth mentioned his girlfriend Yam.. .erm... Egg... Anabelle cuz she's Ann and she's shaped like a.... I mean Ann.
ReplyDeleteAh, my apologies. I should of caught on to that. :)
ReplyDeleteI loved it when Michael left her in Mexico.
Jeffery Donovan
ReplyDeleteJackie Earl Haley
Michael Shanks
Pauley Perrette
Rachel Griffith
Compelling acting all around on The Good Wife. Archie Punjabi, Julianne Margulies, Josh Charles (terrific!), Alan Cummings, Christine Baranski (also terrific!), and Matt Czuchry. What an outstanding cast!
