Will The Mentalist's Grace Van Pelt (Amanda Righetti) make it down the aisle with FBI agent Craig O'Laughlin (Eric Winter) by season's end? The show will keep fans — and third wheel Wayne Rigsby (Owain Yeoman) — guessing all the way through May's two-hour, Red John-themed finale.
"As the season draws to an end, the wedding day looms," teases executive producer Tom Szentgyorgyi, who promises a resolution before the summer break. "You're going to see invitations handed out with interesting ramifications, and possibly even a rehearsal dinner." Amanda claims even she hasn't been told if the wedding will go down, though strongly suspects, "It's going to end all sorts of wrong."
Szentgyorgyi shoots down fan speculation that O'Laughlin will be revealed as serial killer Red John. "Anyone as good-looking as this guy has no need to slaughter women and paint their toenails with blood," says the exec.
But that doesn't mean the groom can't be taken out by Red John, as Amanda fears. "I haven't heard Eric's coming back next season, and he hasn't, either," she says. "So when you put all the pieces together, maybe something really bad's going to happen to him... And she'll run back to Rigsby."

surprise surprise.
ReplyDeleteEric Winter, Hightower, Bertram, Laroche... Not all of them will be returning... I am pretty sure that Bertram is the second Red John mole... (first, he was the one who pointed suspicion towards hightower by notifying Laroche about an affair Hightower had. second, he quoted William Blake's poem; we know already that Red John reads William Blake).
ReplyDeleteThe only one of the four that fits the general reflection in the computer screen in season 1 would be LaRoche. Not sure if that makes him Red John's mole or Red John. I can see either.
ReplyDeleteCan't remember the episode, but you can tell the reflection in the computer screen is a white male, looked a little heavier-set. I don't remember the episode number, but its the one where they are getting "helpful hints" from an anonymous source.
the actor playing LaRoche has played a psycho killer before in the movie Identity... he would be well capable of being red john,... but i think it would be too obvious and way to early in the shows life to reveil him this early....CBS will more then likely have at least a seven year plan for this show.. so expect to wait as long as MONK had to wait to catch his killer......
ReplyDeleteI don't think it's Laroche, remember that we did see and hear Red John's voice last season finale, and it didn't sound like him.
ReplyDeleteI think I know who Red John is, he appeard in the Pilot and Red Sky In the Morning as Brett Partridge, a forensic investigator working for the CBI, and his voice sounds very similiar to Red John's when he's telling Jane the poem.
Of course it's just a guess, but it would be interesting if he were....
I'm thinking too that Bertram has something to do with Red John, but I don't think LaRoche does. He's just a big jerk. But I've mentioned that 'Jane' is female opposite for name 'John', like John Doe, Jane Doe... Wondering if it has some deeper menaning or is it just a coincidence.
ReplyDeleteI don't remember clearly, but if that Jane's talk show thing was at same day as his family's murder, there's no way that just what he said about Red John was the motive because NO ONE can't figure out, if they had a house keeper living with them, the alarm system, what time Jane was coming home etc. in only one day. I think Red John had been stalking them for a long time and Jane's sayings just were the trigger. And Red John killed Charlotte (daughter) first while she was sleeping and then Angela.
computer reflection? Do we see the reflection of Red John in any episode of season one?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I totally agree with you... There is something more to it than just "you slandered me in some second rate talk show." Surely over time, there have been more than a few people who have chased Red John and for him to obsessed with only Jane to the point where he planned and elaborate plan to get to him (season one finale) and even save his life (season two finale). I think Red John, whoever he is, knows Jane and Jane knows Red John.. is anyone else thinking Red John could be a female?
ReplyDeleteYeah, LaRoche's only crime is that he's an asshole... and I think he will survive the season, but when somebody new has been put in Hightower's place (Minelli should be bought back), he will go back to his original position in Internal Affairs division or whatever they call it in CBI and would become a recurring character (like Walter Mashburn, Stiles, Kristine Frye and others).
Simon Baker recently signed a new contract with WB for the show, extending it to season seven... So, you can be sure that Red John arc's conclusion is nowhere near. If the ratings does well, it may even go beyond season seven. It's like How I Met Your Mother, we all know that they wont show who the mother is until the end, but we watch the show because it has become so much more than just that.
ReplyDeleteThat forensic guy makes another appearance in season two finale. You know what, that would be cool if he was Red John: he is creepy, no one would expect it's him and he knows all about the investigation and forensic procedure to stay so evasive.
ReplyDeleteAlthough, I think Red John may have been using a voice scrambler or a digital voice filter or something. I don't think Red John would allow Jane to get any remote clue as to who he is, even his voice.
You're totally right, he wouldn't let Jane get a clue, but if you remember from the season 2 finale, Jane didn't gave the forensic importance, he even treated him badly, so he's not even in Jane's radar.
ReplyDeleteStill, a lot can happen, maybe someone else will turn up as a suspect...
yeah. if it's the forensic guy, Jane has no damn idea it could be him. But it's long shot and we have got a few seasons to go before we get to that. And, as some of the writers have said, they themselves don't who Red John is, except the creator Bruno Heller. (Simon Baker said in an interview that he knew who Red John was but immediately took it back, so, we don't know for sure if he was joking or not.)
ReplyDeleteDon't think Bertram is a Red John's friend. Jane never gave him a second thought.,,
ReplyDeleteI don't care at all about what happens with Hightower or O'Laughlin.
Laroche is an interesting character, but I don't think he's Red John. Actually he's so creepy would be too obvious.
I think O'Laughlin Has somthing to do with Red John, Like an accomplish or somthing. I think he has ties to Red John, Because if you watch the one where he proposes to Grace, he looks really shifty and what Laroche Say's about the person who killed the cop killer might be someone one you know and trust, I dunno but when i saw it, i think it pointed to him in away "/ - Well that's my point of view
