I feel the best reason to watch this show from the beginning was.... and still is....SCOTT PATTERSON as Michael Buchanan.I can't wait to see what he does next week! Check out his FB page http://www.facebook.com/pages/Scott-Patterson/121319294582174
It's great now, not groundbreaking amazing/original, but it's fun to watch and makes me excited for the next episode every week since it came back. It's a shame that the ratings suck ass.
If Michael is perceived as a weak character I think that is solely a product of the writing on the show and the current storyline. If we go back to the beginning, Michael was the one who was kidanpped and forced to kill the President, his oldest daughter was kidnapped and held, his younger daughter was kidnapped and experimented on, his wife was killed, he is, as it turns out, one of "them", he has been involved with Sophia it seems on a very personal level, he was involved with Thomas in getting him the materials he needed and he may have been invloved with Dempsey as well....Michael is a pretty important character, involved in pretty much every aspect of the show, he obviously has many secrets, and IMO he is right up there with the President, Sophia, and Simon. If the story is to make any sense at all his story needs to be told.
Couldn't agree with you more, Elaine. Michael is a pivotal character in my eyes too. I find the writing isn't doing a good job of answering or explaining a lot of the drama surrounding him and that is lessening the impact MB has on the audience. Very regrettable. I think the story is suffering and relying more on action now that the core storyline has been diluted and shifted to the Sophia/Thomas conflict. To get back on track and have all the pieces work together functionally, I agree that MB needs to get his full story told.
i think now that thomas is gone, they'd reveal to us just who michael buhcanan is with respect to the NTBEs.
but judging on the promos, and knowing this is from the creators of 24, it seems that President Martinez is bound to be booted out of the White House and VP Jarvis assumes power. it's no surprise if Eli's wife is one of Sophia's people. there's the reason why Sophia is so confident that she'll get an ally in Eli when she was still in inostranka
and this has everything to do with the Ancient Alien theory
I hope you`re right and they do reveal more of the mystery behind Michael`s story. There`s so much to tell. I`m very frustrated that they are writing the alien community as having no concern for what has happened to Michael`s daughters. It directly relates to them as a community and informs the danger they are vulnerable to because of Dempsey. Crazy for the writers to ignore this dimension of Michael, his motives and his actions...
The intelligent President we knew before, with a strong moral center, is now completely emotive, irrational and calling for blood. He just might get replaced - I wish he had listened to Sterling and that Sterling would push harder about the information he knows about Thomas vs. Sophia. The original version of Sterling pushed his ideas more, didn`t let important things go like this.
I actually doubt that the President`s wife is an alien. It is more likely that she is withholding the blood sample out of principle. I hope this is the case - it`s a far better fit with the woman we have gotten to know up to now. Her being an alien would not make sense considering the known history of her family. Sophia was confident early on in the President as an ally. But not before Simon worked to convince her the president could likely be trusted. Based on this, if the President`s wife is indeed an alien, Simon, and not Sophia, knew about it.
Yes, that ``Ancient Alien theory`` is still a big mystery to me. I`m actually surprised we haven`t learned a little bit more by now. If we knew a little more about what Dempsey might be looking for, those scenes in the caves might have been more effective. The images may have perhaps had too little significance to the audience they way they were presented. Lots of questions that I hope will still be answered well here...
BTW, the creator and original producers of The Event are not the creators of 24. Evan Katz, who was a producer and head writer of 24, was brought on as show runner for The Event after the pilot was made and it was greenlit for production as a series. We started to see the similarities to 24 around episode 3 in particular after he became involved in the show.
Excellent points Marta! There are so many questions and I wish the folks in charge would get the story straight on a lot of things. So many parts of this show are not believable to me, it has gone off in too many directions. Many of the characters have changed completely, The President, Michael, Sean, Sophia, Sterling, even Leila.....how can we connect with these characters and actually care about them when their personalities and motives seem to change with every episode to fit the particular writing of the story that week?? Character development is vital to the survival of any show. "The Event "has failed to fulfill this need. Michael was a huge part of the story in the first few episodes, but that importance trailed off as the season went on . Now that he is back, you are right Marta, there are too many inconsistencies there. He is a complete badass back-up to Sophia now, when he started out as a compassionate, loving father. Thank goodness Scott Patterson does a great job portraying him. He makes the character believable but his behavior is still "out of character" for Michael. The same goes for Sean. So many issues that are killing this show, just one of them was the incredibly long hiatus......so much for the "revamp" of this show. Lousy job on that attempt, they should have left it alone and let it run through instead of taking that break. I would bet that the ratings would be better than they are now. The numbers are pathetic.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteOMG so Eli's wife is an alien?
ReplyDeleteSimon, Sophia and Eli are the strongest/best presences on this show, IMO Scott's character is weak and background.
The show got a little boring for a while there... but now, ASDJKSJDUSIHJSKAPPIJFFSJISH!
