Smallville - Rosenbaum turns down Finale appearance

11 Feb 2011

EW has learned that actor Michael Rosenbaum has repeatedly rebuffed attempts by producers this season to get him back on The CW’s show to reprise his role as Luthor in the finale.

“He has put the show behind him and moved on,” says a knowledgeable source. “He’s pursuing his other creative outlet [writing]. By all indications, he is not going to be involved.”

The door still remains open for Rosenbaum to come on board, but it’s closing fast. Smallville wraps series production late next month, with only three episodes — including the two-hour finale — left to shoot.

  3. It was so obvious that he was not going to return. He should have said it from the beginning instead of make us think he was at least going to try. But it's kind of like I am not disappointed because I didn't get my hopes up nor did I hold my breath. So *shrugs*

  4. Im pretty sure he HAS said multiple times he wasnt coming back. I know Ive read it at least 2 years ago. Then the article would twist it so he might be saying that or he might not be. Its a freakin irritating thing down by a lot of Interview writers. Hes gone. He was good in the role then he left the show and the role was written out. It happens.

Hes an actor. He plays a role. THere is nothing worse than forcing an actor to stay in a role he dosnt want to do anymore. Maybe he hasnt had a lot of work in front of the screen since Smallville. From what I am understanding he is writing a lot more now. Its making him happy. Thats the point of the whole exercise.

  5. Shit I read the title of the episode and was all Noooooooo :(
still Lex will be on it no doubt, either just seen from behind or another will play him (clone aged differently?), things that will no doubt will be in the finale, Clark wearing the suit, flying and Lex watching Superman in hate.

  6. Not to forget the "big" fight between Clark/Superman vs. Darkseid. I hope it will be better than the one with Doomsday...

  8. Yep, I really thought he's make an appearance.

  9. I should never be shocked by actors anymore - but this is really dumb of him. They'd probably need him for a day to walk into camera focus to show that "he's back" and that be the end of it. Last I checked his career isn't doing a whole lot.

  10. They need to recast Lex then. The finale will be complete failure without the emerge of the iconic Lex Luthor and Tom Welling In Superman outfit.

  11. I am fine with this suggestion, though I'm still hoping this is all a smokescreen and he'll pop up at the end :P

  12. What a huge mistake on his part. I have met him several times and seems like a nice guy. This professional decision is full of stupidity. Seriously, what else has he been doing? NOTHING. This guy can't give up a few days or just A DAY for a small last minute cameo? Makes no sense to me.

  13. Who does that?! Nobody even knows who he is anymore! This would be a good thing for his career! Ugh, celebrities.

  14. I suppose there's still time for him to change his mind.
