________

-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led this second Monday in February, with an advantage of 16 percent over No. 2 ABC. Third overall was Fox, followed by NBC and, of course, The CW.

In series-premiere news, CBS sitcom Mad Love finished third at 8:30 p.m., with a 5.8 rating/9 share in the overnights. Comparably, this was similar to recent occupant Rules of Engagement (which shifts to Thursdays at 8:30 p.m. on February 24) and the retention out of demo friendly lead-in How I Met Your Mother (#1t: 6.5/10 at 8 p.m.) was solid at 89 percent. Opening night overnight rating grade for Mad Love: B.

CBS moved into the overnight winner’s circle at 9 p.m. care of Two and a Half Men (9.6/15 – top-rated show of the evening) and stayed in the dominant spot with compatible Mike & Molly (8.1/13) and Hawaii Five-O (7.0/12) from 9:30-11 p.m.

Over at ABC, goofy The Bachelor remains a magnet for the female demographic, with a comfortable 6.6/10 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. and the half-hour breakdown as follows:

The Bachelor (ABC)
8:00 p.m.: 6.3/10 (#3)
8:30 p.m.: 6.4/10 (#2)
9:00 p.m.: 6.7/10 (#2)
9:30 p.m.: 7.0/11 (#2)

Next on ABC was Castle, which finished second behind Hawaii Five-O in the overnights with a 5.9/10 at 10 p.m. The return of Dancing with the Stars in March will, no doubt, give Castle a lift.

In week two news, Fox crime solver The Chicago Code dipped to a third-place 5.2/ 8 at 9 p.m., with retention out of lead-in House (#1: 6.7/11 at 8 p.m.) of an acceptable 78 percent. One week earlier, The Chicago Code opened with a 6.8/10 on Feb. 7 (out of a stronger 8.4/12 for House), putting the week two erosion at 24 percent. Comparably, this is similar to former time period occupant Lie to Me, which is currently on the fence for renewal.

Over at NBC, the results remain bleak from 8-10 p.m. care of Chuck (#4: 3.4/ 5) and sure to exit The Cape (#4: 2.4/ 4), which might have had a shot if it aired on Syfy. But older-skewing Harry’s Law from David E. Kelly perked up to a 5.7/10 in the overnights at 10 p.m. While that still ranked third (and it was a series low), it did build from the 9:30 p.m. portion of The Cape (2.3/ 4) by a significant 148 percent.

The CW capped off the evening with its low-rated combination of 90210 (#5: 1.4/ 2 -- does anyone even care about this revival?) and Gossip Girl (#5: 1.2/ 2).

  1. So what was Chuck's rating?

  2. Hey DarkUFO, could you please make a chart with the ratings of each episode for this season of all shows again like you did some months ago? I know it's much work but I'd really appreciate it since I totally lost track and I really want to know if GG has a real chance to survive or not.

  3. Stella I can assure you Gossip Girl is in no danger of being cancelled this season. Rest assured it will be back in the fall even with it's dire ratings this season.

  4. Well, atleast it was up from last week (3.1/5).

  5. I would say monday night is the hardest for any show to get good ratings, theres so many big shows on and to put Chuck against some of these shows, your asking for it to be cancelled. Ratings need to change more to include DVR, downloads, internet, etc. I'm fed up of watching good shows get canned, cant remember the site but they did a new rating system which had Chuck, heroes, 24, scrubs etc in the top 25 shows. A lot of people might not set their DVR and just use a catch up service or a lot wait for the dvds to watch all in one go, not to forget ppl here in the Uk love these shows as well.

  6. I'm pretty sure Thursday is the hardest night, with the CBS comedies and ABC's drama powerhouse and American Idol. Not really any big shows on Monday.

  7. I see that The Cape officially made it to "Chase" territory this week. I bet NBC could do just as well if they aired a Chuck repeat instead. I also see that old people are still turning out for Harry's Law while most other people have moved on.

NBC needs a hit badly. The Law & Order franchise is running out of gas and their sitcoms are more prestigious than they are profitable. All they have left is reality television. I hope pilot season fares better than in years past.

  8. I'm not worried about GossipGirl ratings !! The show is still on

  9. Thanks for the link.

And thanks for the reasoning :-) I hope you understand that it doesn't comfort me though that the lack of other shows is the only reason for the CW to keep GG. It should be because of good ratings and many fans. I think they lost that because of the recent writing.

compared with the other shows in the same timeslot etc

  11. Yep, they simply don't have enough other shows :)

  14. Ok so they are saying OTH, NIKITA and Hell Cats will be canceled, but they never mention 90210 or Gossip Girl which are pretty bad ratings. Am I the only person who thinks this way?

    ReplyDelete
  15. 90210 and GG both have better average W18-34 ratings I believe.

As for the chances of Nikita, OTH and Hellcats getting cancelled at the end of this season? That's just ridiculous. There is no way the CW can afford to replace all three of these shows plus the 2 vacant slots left by LUX (cancelled) and Smallville (retired). Going on previous seasons the CW wont pick up more than 4 new shows for the Fall and even that would be a push.

    The most likely scenarios-

-TVD, SPN, 90210, GG, ANTM, HELLCATS, NIKITA and OTH all get renewed +the CW pick up 2 new shows (LUX and Smallville being the only two shows to end this season)

-TVD, SPN, 90210, GG, ANTM, HC, NIKITA all get renewed and the CW pick 3 new shows (OTH, LUX and SV all end this season)

If the CW wanted to be really brave they could pick up a fourth new show and cancel whichever show is at the bottom of the ratings pile, which looks to be
-Nikita if they go by W18-34
-Hellcats if they go by A18-49

Or if they wanted to piss off a lot of fans they could get rid of the entire 'old guard'-OTH, SV and SPN in addition to the already cancelled LUX and keep all their new (CW) shows. The chances of that happening? About as likely as SPN fans NOT salting and burning the CW for cancelling their show.

  16. Gotta love a network where every show is safe because they all have sucky ratings. Ah, CW, how do you even stay on the air?
