Raising Hope - Episode 1.13 - A Germ of A Story - Recap

I've never laughed so much in the first five minutes of any show before.

Like all first time parents, Jimmy wants to film Hope's precious moments for posterity. Instead he gets hours of Maw Maw singing and Burt's silly pranks, sometimes on the unsuspecting Jimmy. So he kept the camera hidden to capture them.

When Jimmy shows germaphobe Sabrina the video though, she's disgusted by Virginia putting Hope's pacifier back into her mouth, after it fell on the floor. There is no five second rule.

Wary of keeping their home clean for Hope's sake, Jimmy shows the family the germs in the house, and those Burt and Virginia bring from work. Freaked out by Jimmy's shocking revelation, the Chances break out the mop and bucket for a thorough scrub down.

Like something right out of CSI, they found the only thing they couldn't sterilize was Maw Maw. (Slow-mo sneeze!) Before Maw Maw could spread her germs on their hard work, they voted to move her to the greenhouse. In the process, they discovered home movies made by Virginia's Paw Paw.

Watching her childhood birthday party, Virginia realizes they've been living with germs all their lives and hardly ever got sick. They are through with being clean. Maw Maw is moved back to the house.

We learn a few new things about Maw Maw. We got to see what Maw Maw does all day in her room. She was an accomplished cheerleader. She liked doing back rub train with the family. And she looked remarkably like Phyllis on The Mary Tyler Moore Show when she was younger.
