Question of the Day - What popular/loved by everyone tv characters annoy you?

Feb 16, 2011

Today's Question of the Day comes from bgoodkatie who asks.

"What popular/loved by everyone tv characters annoy you?"

This one took some think about but I finally decided on Charlie (Charlie Sheen) from Two and Half Men. It's a show I don't find funny at all and yet it constantly gets over 14 Million viewers in the ratings.

It also doesn't help that I can't stand Charlie Sheen either.

So what about you? What popular/loved by everyone tv characters annoy you? Sound off/Rant away in the comments.

You can see previous Questions of the Day here.

  1. JD from Scrubs, i dont like that show at all, however some of the other characters are alright. it would be bareable if JD wasnt in it. he's soooo whiney and annoying, just want to hit him and wipe that stupid smile of his face.
woah that sounded harsh, anywhoo, he annoys me HEAPS

  2. Everyone on "Friends" except, maybe, Chandler
    Kramer (Seinfeld)

    ReplyDelete
  3. Yep everyone on Friends for me too, plus Peter and Olivia on Fringe and Jack and Kate on Lost.

    ReplyDelete
  4. I could go to the old stand y and say Cuddy from House again, but I think I will make a new list.

Tracy Morgan on 30 Rock makes that show UNWATCHABLE for me.

Pierce on community .. Chevy has not been funny since the early 80s.

    Everyone on Friends.

Patrick Jane on The Mentalist... He should have been arrest for 95% of the "charming stunts" he pulls in each episode.

Horatio on CSI:Miami..How in the @%$#@% does Caruso get series after series? Seriously!

Maryann on True Blood season 2 - She made me dread watching, but cheer when she died.

Cuddy on House... Okay I could not resist...

    ReplyDelete
  5. Olivia on Fringe, main reason I stopped watching the show.. Booth, Shannon, Claire on LOST.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Serena Van der Woodsen, Gossip Girl.

    ReplyDelete
  7. everyone in greys anatomy, gossip girl, bones( brennan), cuddy(house)!

    ReplyDelete
  8. everyone on greys anatomy, gossip girl. cuddy from house and brennan from bones!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I was so close to listing everyone from Grey's! In the end I just didn't care enough either way so I left them off. Brennan is another good one!

    ReplyDelete
  10. I didn't realize that show was even popular.
I have a weird opinion on him. Sometimes he seems so out of line, sometimes he seems dedicated...

    ReplyDelete
  11. Sawyer from Lost, Peter from Fringe, Mark from Flashforward, Stefan from The Vampire Diaries

    ReplyDelete
  12. The first one that came to mind for me was Puck from Glee. Everytime I look at this guy I think "If i was in High School, this this the guy who would be making my life a living hell" and i just refuse to like him. Even though i kind of like the new Lauren storyline.

And i agree with Sasha who said JD from Scrubs. I love the show, but i just cant stand JD.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Agree completely about Pierce and Cuddy.

My girlfriend absolutely hated Hurley throughout all of LOST and I never understood why. I asked her her reasoning as I found him to be the emotional core of the show and she explained that it was because he comes off as insufferably stupid. Fair enough :P.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Same reasons for me. Of course you are right, he was the heart of the show and integral to the plot and island itself, but To me, he was a danger to anyone around him with his cluelessness. I would have voted him off the island right after Shannon.... oops wrong show...

    ReplyDelete
  15. Ooh toughie. :p

I'd have to go with Buffy Summers (btvs) what a whiny brat.

Tony Almedia (24) once a favorite but earned a passonate hatred after killing Larry Moss and people think of him as Saint George for some reason.

Wesley Pryce (Angel) like him but I don't love him...don't ask me why.

that's all off the top of my head I'm sure there's more.....

    ReplyDelete
  16. Agreed about Kramer. And Chandler is definitely my favourite XD.

    ReplyDelete
  17. I was so going to say everyone from Grey's but I just couldn't be botheredl

    ReplyDelete
  18. Because I usually love the disliked characters, my own disliked characters are usually the popular ones.

Wesley and Fred from Angel, Damon from The Vampire Diaries (I mean I can tolerate him but sometimes he just annoys me so while everyone loves every single thing he does), Claire Saunders from Dollhouse (I swear, it doesn't have anything to do with Amy Acker), Cassie from Skins, Sara from Prison Break.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Charlie Pace from LOST. way too overrated

Also Desmond but him I liked more. In my oppinion, still very overrated

    ReplyDelete
  20. River Tam (firefly) sorry don't get the hype about her or Summer Glau shoot me.

Spike (Buffy, angel) annoying, hate his attitude and the fact he's a wannabe Angel sorry buddy you ain't him.

The cast of Glee and GG overrated ^No offense to fans of either shows just not for me. :p

    ReplyDelete
  21. In general, I'm getting very tired of the trend of tossing actors back and forth across the sea, where they try out a new accent in a movie or TV show. Oh, we do it too, (Gwyneth, Angelina, Meryl), but Walter and Olivia mangle our speech almost often enough to make me stop watching. (On the other hand, the British guy on The Walking Dead has been doing a wonderful Atlanta accent, so far).

Anyone on Glee. Can't watch it.

Don Draper on Mad Men. I know, that show is God's gift and all that. Sorry, can't watch it.

House. I don't even know who Cuddy is. I don't watch the show because I can't stand the main character.

Everyone who is saying Charlie Sheen, I'm with you.

I'm on the fence about Pierce. They're doing something strange with him, and it could work out. Or not.

    Sookie on True Blood.

    ReplyDelete
  22. House! I just don´t get what everyone sees in him.

And I have to agree with Maryann on True Blood. I´m glad that she is long gone.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Meredith and Christina from Grey's Anatomy (After Katherine Heigl left I stopped watching)

Okay, I love NCIS and I watch it, but sometimes Abby gets on my nerves... though I still love her deep down

Peyton and Lucas from One Tree Hill. I know OTH isn't popular anymore, but it used to and everybody loved Peyton and Lucas and argh, I just don't like them

    Sue Sylvester from Glee

    ReplyDelete
  24. Damon from The Vampire Diaries, Annie from 90210, everyone on Gossip Girl, everyone on Grey's Anatomy, Terri on Glee, Alex on Nikita... I'm sure there's a lot longer list but these are the immediate annoyances.

    ReplyDelete
  25. For the longest time I was annoyed by Ben on Lost (same with Locke in Season 4 when it became the Locke and Ben Show), but now I'd have to go with:

    -Entire cast of Reno 911
-Entire cast of Always Sunny in Philadelphia
    -Entire cast of Seinfeld
    -Chase on House

    ReplyDelete
  26. Rory from Gilmore Girls (no way a whiny and not self-reliant girl like that would have such awesome boyfriends as Jess, Logan and even Dean; she never deserved any of them)

Jack and Kate from LOST (I only watched like 12 episodes, cause these two annoyed me too much)

Peyton from One Tree Hill (terribly egoistic backstabber, much?)

Jo from Supernatural (probably would've been ok with her if they hadn't tried to force that possible love relationship between her and Dean, which I hated)

and yes, almost everyone on Grey's Anatomy

    ReplyDelete
  27. Yes, Patrick Jane! So annoying. I was quite interested in the premise of the show. But couldn't watch the first episode through to the end all because of him.

BTW - thanks for the answer on LJ Smith.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Everyone on Friends extept Chandler and Joey

Blair, Nate and Serena from Gossip Girl

    Silver and Adrianna from 90210

Ted Mosby from How I met your mother

And everybody on The Big Bang Theory!!!

    ReplyDelete
  29. Jenny Humphrey on Gossip Girl
    Rachel on Glee
    Brennan on Bones

I actually like The Closer, but Brenda's constant eating annoys the s*** out of me.

And special mention has to go to Nora Walker on Brothers & Sisters. I can't watch a single episode without thinking "If you were my mother I would choke you to death in your sleep!" But at the same time I am really impressed by Sally's acting.

Here's hoping it isn't true that what we hate in others is a reflection of what we hate most in ourselves. Jenny, Rachel and Brennan combined with Brenda's eating and Nora's nagging...oh, nooooo, I'm horrid!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Walter on Fringe is supposed to have an accent.

    ReplyDelete
  31. OMG how did I forget Brenda from The Closer??? She may be the most annoying TV character to come along in decades. I'd say thank you reminding me, but now I have that voice in my head and a desire to eat something sugary and hide it from everyone.....

    ReplyDelete
  32. Most welcome... if my sponge of seemingly worthless information I affectionately call a brain on good days can answer a question for someone, I am happy-ish....

    ReplyDelete
  33. I would actually say that Bolivia is generally disliked among fandom (even though I personally do like her, I've found very few people who do too).

    ReplyDelete
  34. I know what you mean about foreign actors, but it doesn't always bother me as much. I hear different accents in people who grew up and lived in the same city as me for their entire lives... so I just shrug off odd accentuation. I am always impressed by an actor's (some of them at least) ability to master accents.

What really bothers me is when a person who is suppose to have an accent changes drastically like Tim Roth changed his on Lie to Me. I swear it got amped up after the first season... like he was drunk and having a pint with the lads watching footie. Went from subtle to ridiculous. He never enunciated or sounded like a Patrick Stewart ok, but he never used to sound like a Gallagher brother either...

    ReplyDelete
  35. - Brennan from "Bones"
    - Damon from "The Vampire Diaries"
    - "Grey's Anatomy" (except maybe Owen & Bailey) & "Glee" &"Gossip Girls" (no offense to their ardent fan bases)
    - House (if I hear another pre-med student say he or she wants to be just like him.....)
    - any character played by Charlie Sheen or Alec Baldwin (sleazy and sleazier...I feel like I just bathed in oil every time I seem them...yuck!)

    ReplyDelete
  36. Quinn and Kurt from Glee

no but I understand why ppl love Quinn/Dianna Agron, she's pretty. but she has no talent in acting.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I so agree about Ted Mosby!!! So freaking annoying. Love everyone else on the show, but I cannot stand Ted!

    ReplyDelete
  38. I agree about both of these. Dianna Agron can't act and her singing is the weakest of anyone on the show.

I agree even more so about Kurt. Thought I was the only one who felt this way, glad to know I'm not!

    ReplyDelete
  39. She was more than adequate on Boston Legal. I think its as much her character as her ability...

    ReplyDelete
  40. Almost any actor on a CW show save a few, sorry to you fans out there, just not my type of programming, Steve Carrell on the Office (Gervais was much better), and Jeffster on Chuck. I could do without the Buy More period. Pierce on Community is starting to really annoy me as well, but I don't see him as loved or popular by fans of the show that I know

    ReplyDelete
  41. Oh heck Jeffster how could I forget? Screw them the show is much better when they're not there.

    ReplyDelete
  42. What the heck is it supposed to be? I can't figure it out.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Ah, so many (I'm easily irritated). Here goes;

    - The entire casts of: 'Grey's Anatomy', 'Desperate Housewives', 'The Vampire Diaries', 'Glee' and any of the CSI's (though Horatio is particularly bad).
    - Gideon and Elle from 'Criminal Minds'. I know they're both gone, but they irritated me so much.
    - Abby from 'NCIS', but only sometimes. Most of the time she's ok, but she's easy to overdose on.
    - Vance from 'NCIS'. He's easily the worst thing that ever happened to that show, I deliberately avoid episodes that centre on him.
    - Sam Hanna from 'NCIS: LA'. No. Just no.
    - Lana Lang from 'Smallville'. She was so wishy-washy. Ironically the only time I was sad to see her go was in Season 8 when she went for good, she was just starting to develop into a very strong character.
    - Any and all of the Ducklings from 'House'. I love House, Wilson and (to a lesser extent) Cuddy, but all other characters bug me. Plus the show in general now bugs me. It's a soap opera where it used to be all about the medicine, which is why I stopped watching.
    - Cal Liteman from 'Lie to Me'. Get over yourself already.
    - All of the Buy-Morons from 'Chuck'. I enjoyed them at the beginning of the show, but they've seriously overstayed their welcome, thank God they seem to be cutting back.
    - Dexter from...well, 'Dexter'. Just can't warm to him, or the show.
    - I would say Walternate from 'Fringe', but I'm pretty sure he's not a beloved character. I actually quite like all of the alt-universe characters (even Bolivia, though I am not as fond of her as I first was, what with her manipulation of Peter and all), but Walternate...it's not even that I dislike him, he just bores me!

I'm sure I'll think of more later, but those are what I've got off the top of my head.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Yes, consistency makes a difference. That's why I liked the Rick actor on The Walking Dead. I was surprised to hear he's from England because his southern American accent is so good, and he keeps it up. Anna Torv sometimes slips, and it takes me out of the moment. I love her otherwise, and I love Fringe.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Agreed! I can't stand her...or Nate. Both of them with their perfectly coiffed hair and the constant stupid look on their faces have no purpose of being on TV. Enough said!

    ReplyDelete
  46. I never understood the fascination with River Tam either. She rocked, yelled, or stood in a corner for 4/5 of the series. Just took up space in a show that had far more interesting characters.

I loved Spike as a bad guy. Hated him as the emo-chip boy and love interest. Bah! What a waste of a once great character.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Kurt adn Rachel annoyed me so much I stopped watching.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Lana Lang - how could I have forgotten her. I lost all respect for Clark because he was so hung up on that limp dishrag.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Lana Lang( Smallville)
    Rachel Green( Friends)
    House(House)
    Cal liteman (Lie to me)
    Kate (Lost)

    ReplyDelete
  50. Likewise. My respect was somewhat restored when he finally chose Lois, but yeah. Was there ever a wetter rag than Lana Lang? Methinks not.

    ReplyDelete
  51. I've thought of another one: Ross from 'Friends'. I'm not sure I've ever been so irritated by one character (with the exception of Vance from 'NCIS'. He's my personal TV nemesis *shudder*).

    ReplyDelete
  52. Um...thinking...it's a toss up between Lana and Bella of Twilight fame. I really can't choose which one is worse.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Gibbs and Tony are what drove me away from NCIS. I can't stand them.

    ReplyDelete
  54. i hate the dude from the big bang theory that keeps screaming bazzinga. it drives me mad. i seriously want to punch the TV.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Yes, Gibbs can be annoying too. It's not always just 'cool' what he does and says. Tony hasn't reaslly changed much since the beginning.

I mostly watch it for Ziva (Cote de Pablo) anyway.

    ReplyDelete
  56. I agree on Rory and Peyton (not watching the rest)
I am a hardcore Gilmore Girls fan, but mostly because of Lorelai... Rory is whiny, you are right!

    ReplyDelete
  57. Thanks <33

Can i just say that i LOVE you very much......You gave me this incredibly AWESOME site......this makes you always EPIC in my book forever and ever and d'ever infinity <33

    ReplyDelete
  58. i HATE meredith grey!!!!!!!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. one more
    Brenda(Six feet under)
such annoying woman, i spent years waiting that nate find someone better, and we he did it..

    ReplyDelete
  60. Ha, thank you, that's very kind of you to say.

    ReplyDelete
  61. I also never understood what the big deal was about Summer Glau on Firefly. She has been decent so far on The Cape, but I don't understand why some people make such a big deal out of her.

    ReplyDelete
  62. Does it really matter? People talk differently all over the country.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I'm so tired of the grouchy doctor thing. It's been so overdone. Scrubs, Becker, House...
I don't like the plot of House either. It's almost always the same thing: a patient has a problem, the other doctors are wrong, House gets it right and acts like a moody smartass. How inept are the other doctors if they can't ever get it right without House?

Maryann was painful to watch. It was cool as hell when Sam shifted into the bull to defeat her though.

    ReplyDelete
  64. hey you know it's supposed to be a popular or loved by everyone character that annoys you, right? I'm pretty sure Granpa Creepy has no fans, he annoys us all ;)

as for the others from SPN... I loved RoboSam. He was hilarious. He ensured us with entertainment in the first half of the season. As much as I'm glad to have soulful Sammy back - RoboSam was awesome.

season 4 Ruby, definitely agree. Season 3 Ruby I liked, she was intriguing.

I totally agree on Gabriel! everyone loves him... I loved his sex tape with a world saving message, but you're totally right he was messing with the boys in a way not many other supernatural creatures did. I never forgave him Mystery Spot either.

    ReplyDelete
  65. On the whole, no, but I have a pet peeve about characters who are supposed to be from a certain place, and a big deal is made of this, but their speech spectactularly belies this. Olivia keeps saying she's from Jacksonville, but there isn't a hint of Floridian in her speech. If she'd stop saying she's from Jacksonville, I'd be fine. Walter has been living in Boston for at least as long as Peter is old, so why has he never picked up a Boston accent? (Peter's is believable, though).

But what's really gets my goat these days is when this is done with Chicago characters. That's because as a Chicagoan, I'm sensitive to it. I can tell you that Jared on the Chicago Code does not sound like anyone from around here (and there is no Australian neighborhood around here, as far as I can tell). Chicago lawyer Eli Gold on The Good Wife is played by a Alan Cummings, who is a Scot (and I LOVE him, don't get me wrong). He tries hard, but he's pushing it.

So it's not just normal differences in speech patterns that bothers me, it's PRETEND accents that are OBVIOUS. It's when I listen and have to say, "Why didn't they just find an actor who already has the speech pattern and then nobody needs a speech coach."

For example, kudos to the Lost team for changing Sawyer's character so Josh Holloway could just speak naturally. It worked great!

Sorry, I really ranted there, didn't I. I feel much better now. Thanks for listening :-).

    ReplyDelete
  66. Hi Mia494 *hugs*

GrandPa Creepy.....is loathed by everyone, but like i said in my comments.....The way i see it is......Everyone loves someone....Thats why he's included :))

I disagree about RoboSam....but i respect that you loved him.......He was awful and immoral, and i found none of the things he did hilarious.....It was very sad to watch what a human being turns into without a soul....Necessary....but sad to watch :((

I didn't like any Ruby....but i do agree that Katie was marginly better in acting terms......the character was annoying, and an anvil over the head to why she was there in the first place...I was with Dean all the way,but that's just my opinion :)

Oh Cool.....you get the whole Gabriel Hate.....Mystery Spot makes him unforgivable IMO, angel or no angel.......lesson or no lesson :((

Thank's for the reply....it was great to read your thoughts <33

    ReplyDelete
  67. I Hate Derbra Dexter's sister, well hate may be strong but she definitely annoys me.

    ReplyDelete
  68. I guess I see your point. But I still think they are great actors, and rather than having different actors, they should have changed where the characters were from.

    ReplyDelete
  69. V :
-Father Jack is really loved among the fans, but his so-called romance with Erica is boring and Fifth Column needs strong men, not priests.
    Smallville
-Lana Lang : "The Young and the restless" in teenagehood!
-Chloe Sullivan : I loved her until season 9, now, she is really boring and her lanaesque behavior drives me crazy
-Oliver Queen : his relationship with chloe is boring, I don't see any chemistry between Justin and Allison
    Supernatural:
-Ruby : The first actress was incredible, the second more than annoying, it killed the show (for me, Supernatural ends at third season)
    BSG 2003 :
-Kara Thrace aka Starbuck : I hated the evolution of this character, she doesn't know what she wants
    Bones :
I gave up watching Bones (s4) because Brennan made me wanting getting a hammer. Her behavior is too compulsive.
    Stargate SG-1 : Daniel, Adria,
Stargate Universe : Chloe and Scott
Stargate Atlantis : Sheppard, Larrin, Wraiths, Ronon, but actually all stargate characters from the franchise are all "squared", I hate that!
    Star Trek ENT :
    -Mayweather : uninteresting
    Star Trek TNG :
    -Q : really really annoying

    ReplyDelete
  70. Yes, yes, yes! Simple solution, change where the characters are from and then let them use their natural accents. I'd be happy then, really. For example, let Jason Clarke's Jarek say that his father moved the family from Australia for a job at AON-Chicago. Totally feasible, and Clarke can just relax and speak naturally. It's when actors who have distinctive accents attempt to speak in an entirely different distinctive accent, thereby mangling it, that my toes curl. (Think Carole Littleton).

  71. jack form lost!!!
i hated him from day one!!!
    why was he so popular?
why was it all about him??
    he was sooooo annoying!!
    god! i hate jack!!!!!!

    rant over

    ReplyDelete
  72. Gideon and Elle are annoying
    walternate too
and the main character from lie to me
