As the show recently had a boom in the ratings, I was just wondering why did everyone simply decided to watch NCIS in the first place. Of course there were millions of fans before, but we all agree that there's a huge percentage of the viewers who started watching the show from late seasons on, right? Of course I couldn't cover all the answers in this poll, but you can all share with us what made you tune in on CBS on Tuesdays nights in the comments section.
C'mon, can't you see the similarities?
I don't have a blog of my own, but you can follow me on Twitter if you want to:

I watched because it was a new pilot and I try to check out most if not all new series and see if I like them. I quit when it got repetitive like almost all procedurals do after 4 or 5 years.....
NCIS is better than most, but to me all procedurals are. Crime happens, they suspect some one... facts lead to some one else, and the criminal is one of the people they met along the way. The End. Rinse and repeat.
I had a friend at college about 4/5 years ago and she asked me if I'd ever heard of something called NCIS and I was like nah... I wan't really into watching TV then but I watched one episode and was hooked!! Now I have all 6 seasons on DVD (that are available in the UK)... AND I've seen all the new ones! :)
i love mark hrmon and micheal wetherly- i will watch evry thing they are in
i would watch any show that Micheal weatherly and Mark hermon are in! i love mark hrmon and micheal wetherly- i will watch evry thing they are in

i didn't get to watch it because I had a whole slew of night classes in its first two years so I missed it. I accidentally watched the Season 2 finale by myself, where Kate was killed, and after that I was hooked.
Loyal JAG fan here. Saw the entire series including the 2-episode "pilot" of NCIS, and was hooked immediately. Been following both NCIS and NCIS:LA diligently ever since.
Yeah Criminal minds has kept my interest too. In fact I have gotten more interested in it the last month or two with Rachel Nichols joining. But I'm a sucker for psychological killer drama. I never watched Medium, but that was due to me just watching David Lynch's Lost Highway when the pilot came out and I had a bad taste in my mouth for anything connected to it.....
yeah, hi5, fellow JAG fan! I wish some more JAG characters would show up on NCIS nowadays... But sseing "Sturgis" playing a different character (future episode) probably means they really don't want to do that. =/
HAHAH! yeah, I guess so :) Most people love them or prefer them... I am just one of those that likes serials more. The great thing about them is you can not watch a series for months or years nd tune in and 99% of the time still enjoy the episode without being confused at all.
Yeah, I like Rachel Nichols too, the beginnning of the season wasn't the best one, but recently, it's been really good. Medium was good, not the most amazing program ever, but Patricia Arquette can really act, I quite like it, but I watch like 50 tv shows, so watching everything is my thing :L
i saw a music video about NCIS... if i rememer it was clip about abby in season 4 i guess where she doesn't like nugot...and the season 4 sexual harrasment class
I started watching it because of my best friend, we addict each other to different shows all the time, so now I have seen all season 7 and 8 eps right after (on wednesday, time zones) and have seen also almost all the other episodes except from season 6.
My (future) mother in law told me she thought it was something I'd be interested in, so I started watching it and it was love at first sight. I've been a loyal fan for 8 years now & plan on being it for another 8 & longer. =] <3 <3
That's the main reason I watch the show... it's character driven! <3 Of course it does help to have amazingly gorgeous & sweet actors/actresses, as well as wonderful writers who love the fans (Jesse Stern, Reid Steinback & Gary Glasburg are among my fav writers) and the whole behind the scenes help too!
Even though I used to love JAG, I wasn't that interested in it when it premiered. I wasn't watching much TV (limited myself to 3 hours a week total). I really preferred my SciFi addictions. My dad kept insisting, so during the second half of the first season I gave it a try and I was hooked. Still am. :D
Two words: Michael Weatherly ! Smoking hot , sultry green eyes and bad boy smile. But after he pulled me in, it was the great ensemble cast and humor that kept me there.
I think most all TV shows are procedurals in a sense. Even family comedies. There's a set script or dynamic for all of them, a formula per se. Even shows like "Modern Family", "The Big Bang Theory", or "Mad Men" (to expand into critical darlings). Perhaps cop/law/medical shows are more structured by their very nature, but I think all shows boil down to a repetitive format, it just depends on the genre and setting of the show what the format is.
Yes that is the formula it is what happens in between which is interesting. How they find the clues to solving is also compelling. The relationships formed on the show between the agents and the people the come into contact during the investigations is also very compelling television.
I turned in for mark harmon, i have had a crush on him since he first began his career and have watched every tv show, movie and made for tv movie he's ever done and he never disappoints.
My friends in the Navy made me watch two episodes and I hated it. I had just gotten out of a bad work situation and Gibbs annoyed me to no end. Later, I was watching Burn Notice on USA and NCIS came on after. I thought it was okay and occasionally saw it on USA some more. However, it was the episode where Abby has a stalker that turned me into a NCIS fan. She humanized Gibbs for me. From then on it was USA marathons and DVD's. Abby's still my favorite character.
really?? I remember I kinda hated Gibbs for putting my beloved Harm in jail! thank God he took him outta there as soon as he found out Harm was innocent, so I could watch the new show! haha
you know, I used to not pay attention to frigging credits, so it took me a few years (!) to know that Cote wasn't an israeli actress or even American. LOL but I liked her character. Her maybe-lesbian atittude was weird, but it was good to seen Tony embarassed for once. HAHA
Reruns. Caught a rerun early Season 2 and have been watching with the fam ever since. Which is really weird because most of my favorite shows I've initially started through reruns (Supernatural, summer after season 1; House, season 3; Charmed, season 1, etc.)
It was after a TV show i followed (don't remember what since it was too long ago) and since i had way too much spare time and was too lazy to turn off the tv, i ended up watching it. Before i knew it, i not only followed it's lead in but NCIS as well. NCIS and I now have a long and pleasant history together.
Something else... Okay I'm trying to remenber cause it was at the same time that I started going REALLY crazy with my tv viewing lol (more than I was already tsktsk) I think I just wanted to watch something good and I liked CSI so I google "best episode ever of ciS" lol and got undercover and well DUH fell in love with tiva and watched the whole show
LOL amazing choice of words. normally I ask a viewer to tell me what's the best episode of a tv show, but Google also counts as a friend sometimes. LOL
My grandparents watched NCIS regularly and I would always see them watching it, but was never really interested. I walked in from dance class one night and it happened to be the night that Ziva first made an appearance on the show and I LOVED her attitude and how tough she was while still being able to show emotion. I was completely hooked and I have watched every single episode since. I own all the DVD's now and I plan on continuing to watch.
The older ladies at work all watched it and I had seen my parents watching it but since USA paired it up with Law and Order I really had no desire to watch it because I didnt like Law n Order and assumed it would be the same. But the ladies at work insisted so I sat down and watched it and have been watching it ever since.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
I watched because it was a new pilot and I try to check out most if not all new series and see if I like them. I quit when it got repetitive like almost all procedurals do after 4 or 5 years.....
ReplyDeleteIt was the team that did it for me.
ReplyDeleteNCIS is not repetitive... ¬¬'
ReplyDeleteReruns on USA. They air them ALL THE TIME. I finally gave it a shot one day, and I ended up watching about 5 hours in a row.
ReplyDeleteI keep watching it for the characters. They make the show.
NCIS is better than most, but to me all procedurals are. Crime happens, they suspect some one... facts lead to some one else, and the criminal is one of the people they met along the way. The End. Rinse and repeat.
ReplyDeleteOnly still manage to watch Criminal Minds, half way through Medium as well, watched the pilot like a month ago, liking it a lot at the moment.
ReplyDeletei love mark hrmon and micheal wetherly- i will watch evry thing they are in

ReplyDeleteI saw images of it in a social networking site and thought I should watch it.
ReplyDeleteMy parents watched it and I ended up becoming a huge fan too!! :D
ReplyDeletethat's why it's called "procedural", I guess.
ReplyDeleteyeah, they are the soul of the series, indeed. ^^
ReplyDeleteyeaah, they're both very easy on the eyes *-*
ReplyDeletethat's what I'm talking about! new fans are always welcome!
ReplyDeletegosh, you started right at the end! LOL
ReplyDeletei would probably be too shocked to keep watching it! LOL
yeah, hi5, fellow JAG fan! I wish some more JAG characters would show up on NCIS nowadays... But sseing "Sturgis" playing a different character (future episode) probably means they really don't want to do that. =/
ReplyDeletedo u remember what images? :D
ReplyDeleteyeah, I'm asking too much
yeah, it happened to me several times too, but with other shows. Very often I became more addicted to those tv shows than my parents!
ReplyDeleteHAHAH! yeah, I guess so :) Most people love them or prefer them... I am just one of those that likes serials more. The great thing about them is you can not watch a series for months or years nd tune in and 99% of the time still enjoy the episode without being confused at all.

ReplyDeleteyes, it's true, but I enjoy watching every week.
ReplyDeletei love procedurals and serials, I'm weird. LOL
i saw a music video about NCIS... if i rememer it was clip about abby in season 4 i guess where she doesn't like nugot...and the season 4 sexual harrasment class
ReplyDeleteSomething else: I was zapping and caught an episode. After that, I loved the show!!! :D
ReplyDeleteA friend of mine told me about it just before season 3 so I gave it a go...Now I'm hooked
ReplyDeleteI started watching it because of my best friend, we addict each other to different shows all the time, so now I have seen all season 7 and 8 eps right after (on wednesday, time zones) and have seen also almost all the other episodes except from season 6.

ReplyDeleteMy friend almost raped me to wach this, and I tryed it,twice!! but this show is simply boring as hell, and already seen 100 times before :(
ReplyDeleteI loved Jag and I loved the episodes which introduced Gibbs. I just had to see more of Gibb's character. I have been watching NCIS from the beginning!
ReplyDeleteYes that is the formula it is what happens in between which is interesting. How they find the clues to solving is also compelling. The relationships formed on the show between the agents and the people the come into contact during the investigations is also very compelling television.

ReplyDeleteMy mom was watching it and I started watching it with back in the second season and was hooked from that point on.
ReplyDeleteI just turned it on one day and got hooked... wasn't really my choice.
ReplyDeleteI was out of work and got hooked with those darn all day USA marathons.....
ReplyDeleteBecause of Cote de Pablo of course!
ReplyDeleteI've been watching since she joined NCIS!
My friends in the Navy made me watch two episodes and I hated it. I had just gotten out of a bad work situation and Gibbs annoyed me to no end. ReplyDeletethat scene is a classic one! good to know it made a few fans! LOL
ReplyDeleteI almost put that among the possible answers... bu I thought "Naah, who would do that?!"
ReplyDeletemy bad! LOL
thank goodness there are still good friends on this planet :DD
ReplyDeletethat's evidence of the existence of good mothers-in-law! :DD
ReplyDeleteit kind of fills the void left by JAG *cries*
ReplyDeletethat's soo true!!
ReplyDeleteLOL I'm sorry it isn't really your thing, but at least you gave it a try! =/
ReplyDeletereally?? I remember I kinda hated Gibbs for putting my beloved Harm in jail! thank God he took him outta there as soon as he found out Harm was innocent, so I could watch the new show! haha
ReplyDeleteyea, and he's sooo very hot, even older! I've seen his younger self on magazine covers and he was smoking hot!
ReplyDeleteIt was Destiny's. (WTF?)
ReplyDeleteAbby is a mind/heart-changer (does that word even exists? "changer"?). I'm glad you could share it with us, nice story to tell.
ReplyDeleteA couple years ago my then-roommate suggested it to me so I watched a few episodes. I kept watching because of Abby and now I'm completely hooked.

ReplyDeleteMy father had surgery in 2008, and watched it (USA Reruns) all the time in the hospital. The whole family got hooked.
ReplyDeleteJust happened to bump into it :)
ReplyDeleteGOSH, is he okay?? We can't afford to lose such a dedicated fan! LOL
ReplyDeletelol well it was a fan site :D
ReplyDeleteLOL I remember seeing Abby and think "this has to be a great show"! and it is!!!!
ReplyDeleteThank you! He's still here, still watching NCIS.
ReplyDeleteJust caught a few episodes on TV, liked them, so I started keep watching, and catching up on old episodes.
