Oh God it was perfect. The kids they cast were amazing, and the story really brought more layers to Peter and Olivia as characters. I am so shocked it was Olivia who accidentally told Walternate by crossing over.
OMG!! What an episode?? The child actors were fantastic... got all the mannerisms down! THIS is what you call brilliant television!!! And omg, that's how Walternate knew!!!! Aaaaah!!!! SO GOOD!!!!
First off, just the opening credits show you why FRINGE is such an awesome series! To take the time and spend the money to create a one-off opening for a flashback episode is a special touch tha not many series take the time or effort tdo. AMAZING!
Nice to get a lil peek back and see what helped make Olivia so hypo-sensitive, pessimistic and such a perfectionist.
To see Walter as a caretaker and almost father figure to the kids he tested makes the guilt our present day Walter feels so much more powerful and tangible! Before I saw him as more a mad scientist than a teacher and caretaker. Now I can see him as a caring man that struggled to find answers as much as he struggled with his own conscience.
This was an incredible episode that gave nuance and more meaning to everything that has happened previously on FRINGE and will impact how the viewer looks at everything to come. The "crossing over" in the same episode has been HIGHLY effective for me. It gives immediate context and contrast to the characters. We get to see Walternate as a reflection of Walter but also get a deeper understanding of Walternate. We get to see both sides of a coin at once and yet each individual side is more detailed than looking at one side at a time. The young Peter and Olivia in addition to being brilliant actors, added so many layers to our Peter and Olivia
Good episode. Bit of an information dump. Made me miss the main characters (you know the older ones).
I feel bad for Peter, I understand Elizabeths pt. of view more now, and I'm kinda mad they didn't explain why Olivia and Peter don't remember meeting eachother. I'm glad they did meet and that Peter knew where to find her.
I don't understand what Peter and Olivia saw in the tulip field when they held hands. It was cute though that she did want to touch his hand "I think I've cooled off enough now." she says. If it was the other side that they saw in the tulip field, that holds my theory from Jacksonville that she can cross over or at least see the other side with the other intense emotion that is love as well. In Jacksonville after she almost kissed Peter she saw the building still scared and feeling love for him and now as Walter said in this episode, for her its a mixture of being scared and love that makes her cross over. so it fits in the tulip field as well they crossed over for a second because that connection. Maybe. SIDE thought. well, if its scared/love mix that crosses them over... I wonder where they went at the end of 6B, Did they cross over when they were sleeping together?? We'll see.
Now that was an amazing hour of television! What a twist though that Olivia was actually the one who told Walternate! Didn't see that coming! I think this episode brought so much more depth to all of the characters. Wow...just wow.
but walter didn't know who she was so, it didn't really matter that it was her to walternate, it just mattered that she showed him that he was with her.
what did she say did she actually tell him that she was from the other side? b/c she didnt' know that peter had crossed over peter didn't really even know.
I will keep an eye out when I watch again later, but I didn't "see" what they saw either. Anything I write right now would be a complete guess honestly...
She ran into the office expected to tell our Walter that her dad hit her, but the emotion complex made her cross over and she ran into Walternate's office. She had her notebook with her and showed him or left behind a picture she drew of herself and Peter in the tulip field. Walternate was able to piece it together with the picture and Olivia's comments. I don't think she said anything herself directly to Walternate.
Good God, that was effing incredible. I have chills still! One of the best episodes ever! Little Peter and Olivia were spot on, and Peter's struggle to go home was so sad. When he finally believed his "mom" I just felt around as bad as she did... And when Olivia was running from her stepfather... God...and then, when Olivia flashed to talk to Walternate... OMG, it was just insane. I've been waiting for a whopper episode like this one!
I watched it again and it was just crushed tulips and steam coming off them. Kind of like "UFO" sightings have grass fields with compressed grass... Olivia left a crop circle.
I thought this episode was great! ...but i thought Peter was beter but it was still a great episode its hard to compare to something like Peter. Did anybody understand the ending? Cause i didnt get that at all...
When Olivia ran into Walternate`s office she told him she didn`t wanna go home that her stepfather beats her and that`s when she crossed into another universe. And when our Walter walked into his office she crossed back.
But Walternate understood. Girl talking about another universe and suddenly she dissapears in front of him. Then he looks on Olivia`s drawings and finds a picture of her and Peter holding hands. So he got it.
Oh that was all kinds of awesome. I watched the bit with Olivia going into Walters office and then it being Walternate about 4 times before I continued on it was that awesome! One wonderence is how the kids forgot about the meeting when they are older. Surely Peter would remember he questioned this being his world and Olivia remember she met him. I imagine there's a little bit more of the story to tell here....
At the bottom of the picture was printed Olivia and Peter. First names only if my memory's correct. I suspect it was Olivia who printed it. The whole show was fantastic. The crossovers between universes were perfectly handled. I think Olivia's ability to cross over may be getting a little out of control though. Her emotional state was high when she went to tell Walter about her stepfather's abuse. It was weird the way it was handled, talking to Walternate and turning around to see Walter standing there. Almost like the two universes were interlocking and the barriers vanishing. I don't know if anyone else noticed or if it's just my imagination.
Intriguing ep. Now I almost don't want to know how the kids lose their memories. I have a feeling this will have to do with William Bell's suggestions but who knows. Did anyone else freak out at that picture of Olivia's? I thought, it's BOB from Twin Peaks!!! Aaaggghhh!! Scary.
i too was left with the feeling that there will be a follow up of this episode. they do have to explain why peter and olivia don't remember anything. also, i don't think this was the episode they were referring to when it was announced that they would resume olivia's stepfather story. or i hope it's not. and if i'm right, it was about that time when she shot him, so maybe both events are somehow related and will be explained later this season. hopefully!
but there must be for sure another flashback episode resuming walternate's realisation of what had happened in the last scene!
Yep, don't worry you're not going blind. At first I thought it was a bad quality stream, but I figured they were just trying to give it a retro 80's vibe... it worked.
Actually this episode was so awesome I did not miss the regulars even a little bit! That doesn't mean would want this more than maybe twice a year MAXIMUM, but I did not think of Anna Torv or Josh Jackson once as I watched it.
It was definitely an episode for John Noble to shine! So Walter-centric, he really carried the episode and it was a nice change of pace to me to see him funtioning with all parts of his brain and no Walterisms. I love them, but It was a better insight into Walter (or Walternate) the man than we normally see.
Yeah, right. I left that bit out. I guess I knew it was there but forgot to write it. Either way she still did not "say" anything about Peter directly to Walternate... just gave him all the tools he needed to put it together.
I love when shows take the time to change their title reel for a special episode. Like Buffy did when Jonathan had cast his spell over Sunnydale in Superstar.
Interesting. It looks like I'm the only one who didn't like this much. The Peter thing with the lake was lame, since he was shown otherwise intelligent. The fire didn't fit either. She was in the corner and burnt the surroundings previously. And didn't run away.
Where exactly does one run to when they themselves are the epicenter of an explosion and fire?
I do agree on the Peter "escape" attempt. It felt a little out of place to me. Was it a suicide attempt, was he recalling being trapped in the ice and almost drowning before September pulled him up,or was he just THAT desperate to get home that the only connection to his old home in his mind was the ice from whence he came? I guess all valid reasons for the scene, but It did not feel right to me either .... not exactly. Even if I understood WHY it was in the episode to begin with....
anyone else realize that the both times that Peter calls Walter "Dad" or Elizabeth "Mom" , you don't feel good about it. With Walter, in season 2 You know that he's keeping the secret from Peter and that Peter's just going to find out and go back to square one with walter again. And this week with Elizabeth its showing that he's finally been completely manipulated.
Olivia and Peter, made clear by this episode have been victims of Walter since they were little.
I meant in earlier episodes. On the videotape Olivia was in the corner with burnt walls around her. And didn't run anywhere. But now that I think of it it might be a different occasion. Although its weird that the boy wasn't burned.
The fire you're referring to was when Olivia was 3, not 7. Nick Lane didn't get burned because the fire didn't catch him. You can see it if you watch the episode again, Olivia burnt everything except for herself and Nick.
A fantastic episode. Perhaps not as great as Peter, but that's a pretty high standard. My second favourite episode in what has been such an awesome season!
Yeah. I used to get excited on the rare occasions when The X-Files used something other than 'the truth is out there'. Or when Lost finished on a white background at the end of season 5, haha.
I'm a little confused about the title. My on-screen TV guide lists it as "6 Months Later." Apparently, the change to Subject 13 was a last-minute decision. Anyway, excellent episode. The kids were great. Young Peter looked believably like older Peter, except for the red hair color. His acting skills were wonderful. When he cried, wow! The story is really starting to move along.
Olivia was still putting off heat.. the steaming tulips.. in their conversation Peter says his mom told him you have to imagine the world you want & then make it happen.. she concentrates (imo on cooling off) and then says "I think i've cooled off enough now" & holds out her hand. The snow starts falling Peter laughs & says "did you imagine that?" i.e. snow cooling the fire..
she told him her stepfather hits her & that she had crossed to the other universe & it was just like walter told them it would be, with blimps, and shoved her notebook w/ her drawing of the blimp at him & said look! and then our Walter is behind her asking who she is talking to & walternate is gone but still has her notebook.. that their is another universe is first secret.. the drawing of her & peter is the second..
I'm not sure of the age. Was it mentioned that she was three? As for the fire, I saw it. But he should have been burnt, because he wasn't "that" close to her.
Now my theory is complete that large amount of people who watch TV are idiots who do not appreciate quality TV. Otherwise FRINGE would be booming in ratings. Instead, some dumbasses watch some Hell's Kitchen instead -.-
But for those of us who love real TV, this was a real treat
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
Outstanding episode! I LOVED the reference to Alias!
ReplyDeleteThis ep was absolutely amazing. Now that's how you do quality television.
ReplyDeletecried, it was AMAZING.
ReplyDeleteOh God it was perfect. The kids they cast were amazing, and the story really brought more layers to Peter and Olivia as characters. I am so shocked it was Olivia who accidentally told Walternate by crossing over.

ReplyDeleteAnd omg, that's how Walternate knew!!!! Aaaaah!!!! SO GOOD!!!!
and LOST with Nick's little white bunny, that was traveling with him.
ReplyDeleteFirst off, just the opening credits show you why FRINGE is such an awesome series! To take the time and spend the money to create a one-off opening for a flashback episode is a special touch tha not many series take the time or effort tdo. AMAZING!

Truly amazing story telling and TV at its finest!
Good episode. Bit of an information dump. Made me miss the main characters (you know the older ones).

She was still very hot so she scorched the tulips. At least that's what I gathered from it.
ReplyDeleteThat's how I took it too..
ReplyDeletebut then after a while she cooled down and reached out her hand. and that is when they looked up in amazement...what did they see?
ReplyDeleteNow that's how you do TV. Amazing performances and an incredibly moving story. One of the best episodes, if not the best, easily!
ReplyDeleteI think it was the snow.
ReplyDeleteSnow. In Jacksonville, Florida. In the spring, when tulips bloom.
ReplyDeleteNow that was an amazing hour of television! What a twist though that Olivia was actually the one who told Walternate! Didn't see that coming! I think this episode brought so much more depth to all of the characters. Wow...just wow.
ReplyDeleteso what he cooled her down and the heat and cool made snow or something?
ReplyDeletebut walter didn't know who she was so, it didn't really matter that it was her to walternate, it just mattered that she showed him that he was with her.

ReplyDeleteWell, Olivia did disappear in front of Walternate's eyes and mention "crossing over" to where the blimps were.
ReplyDeleteI know that. I'm just saying that if Olivia hadn't accidentally crossed over into Walternate's office, he wouldn't have figured out where Peter went.

ReplyDeleteWas it just me or did the sketch of the angry face in Olivia's sketchbook remind you of Grandpa Creepy?
ReplyDeletegrandpa creepy?
ReplyDeleteA nickname for a character on Supernatural.... Sorry I crossed networks and TV series!
ReplyDeleteThat was just pure class, INCREDIBLE
ReplyDeleteI thought this episode was great! ...but i thought Peter was beter but it was still a great episode its hard to compare to something like Peter. Did anybody understand the ending? Cause i didnt get that at all...

Did anyone notice this episode had a sort of double vision too it?
ReplyDeleteActually it didn't lol but I guess it should've -- same demeanor lol
ReplyDeleteActually, it's the second time they've used this opening, but yeah it still rules.
ReplyDeleteYep, don't worry you're not going blind.
ReplyDeleteAt first I thought it was a bad quality stream, but I figured they were just trying to give it a retro 80's vibe... it worked.
yeah, i saw it too, at first i thought there was something wrong with my PC but then I realized it was simply the style of the episode
ReplyDeleteGood to hear.
ReplyDeleteNow I totally miss our regular characters. Anyone else?
ReplyDelete2 weeks! nooo!

I think you're to specific. I'd say a large amount of all people. Its the same with music. With the popular crap-pop and sh*t-hop.
