Yeah I saw it coming, but that last Walternate comment sent shivers down my spine. It just sounded so crazy coming from him. On the subject of Walternate, I did see a side of him I liked tonight, but I have the feeling that his stnace on child test subjects will change for some reason. I think he might just be crazy enough to try and do tests on his grand child.
I hope people can keep in mind that most of the bad things associated with babies on television wouldn't apply in a show like Fringe. There's a lot of potential to this storyline in the Fringe universe.
A lot of people don't like babies on tv because they cause ridiculous complications and are always there. I think Fringe is in a unique position to circumvent those things. We'll probably see very little of the pregnancy for two reasons: 1. It is 'Over There' 2. The Bishops will probably insist on taking the baby. I think the real story here is how this is going to test not only Peter's loyalty but Fauxlivia's as well.
It is always nice to see Charlie. There are so many scenarios that could play out now. The observers could try to take the baby, or the baby could be an observer :) Fauxlivia could go back to our universe, or Peter go back to the other universe. Peter might combine the two universes or end one/both. JJ Abrams and the writers could have something up their sleeves that will make our heads spin. Mines spinning right now, but I mean something we never saw coming.
Oh ok, I see yeah, I agree with you on the testing of Peter's loyalty to which Olivia/Universe he will ultimately end up choosing. He will certainly want to meet his own son, but will he hold feelings for the Olivia he's grown to know, or the one he had a fling with, not to mention the fact that she wants to destroy the only universe he's really ever known. But a child will most definitely throw a wrench into the spokes. It could really get interesting especially in light of the possibility of time-travel as well in the future of the show. I can't remember exactly where I heard that rumor of time-travel possibilities on the show, but I think it was on here and it was maybe an interview with the chick who plays Astrid. Anyone wanna back me up?
Tonight's episode answered a lot of questions.... Walternate is ethical? (still not quite sure on this...) Charles (Charlie) in charge? Can it rain beetles? Can beetles be the less creepy parasite in an episode? And those were not the big questions answered tonight! Anyone else wish Olivia had beetles in her not babies?
Yet unaswered... Where can I find a three-headed LED flashlight... me likey! Who does Olivia's fiancee remind me of??? grrrr....
Overall a pretty good episode. Better than last week's... and a much better COTW episode in general to me. I'm very glad we have our Olivia and Astrid. I enjoy them so much more, but in fairness their Walternate, Peter and Fringe agents are more fun then our counterparts!
The best news of all is my pillow did NOT damage my TV after be heaved at it in frustration....
Agree on your reasoning about not seeing much of the pregnancy, but a baby changes the dynamics of any person it is attached to or any relationship it comes from. Almost NEVER for the better on series that do not revolve around family life. Even if Fauxlivia does not raise the child (assuming Walternate does take it), she will still always think of protecting the child,r saving the child from Walternate, keeping it away from Peter or reuniting it with Peter. I am fairly sure Fringe can avoid the usual baby traps, ut without doubt it changes dynamics... not to mention the most important relationship dynamic in my mind personally... Peter and Olivia. Now Olovoa can't just move past Peter being with "another woman"... now, she has to deal with him having a baby with her too. Tectonic shifts have occurred tonight.... I just hope they do not result in disaster.
They are assassinating Olivia's character to fit the BOlivia/Peter conflicted romance storyline.
That's not fair. We're never going to root for BOlivia, not matter how far they go to paint Olivia as depressed and morose.
I still, objectively, liked the episode. But in the grand scheme of things I feel bad for the character that once was Olivia Dunham.
No wonder everyone was complaining that she was becoming a nag, because they were purposely writing her that way so as to make BOlivia seem all kinds of awesome!
Totally agree. This season has been more about Fauxlivia than Olivia in my mind. The Peter and Fauxlivia relationship has COMPLETELY changed Olivia's demeanor and that is WITHOUT knowing they have a baby coming...
Excuse me but the only character on this show that is being assassinated is Peter. First he couldn't tell the Olivias apart, slept with the double, got his double pregnant which caused everyone to stop caring about him and hating on him. So no, its obvious Peter is going to die since those morons over at bad robot DOESN'T WANT to make Peter a symphatetic character for the sake of giving Anna Torv stuff to do.
i can't remember which video, but there was a recent interview with the EP's on here saying they had the observer bring roscoe joyce's son through time in the firefly so that they could use that again later this season.
Fringe doesn't usually bring up things like that without going into them somewhat, but I can hope the baby does not become front and center... Glee did handle it well. Good point. Like I said though, I have a fair amount of trust in Fringe's writers.... I just thought it was so obvious and not their style. I'm fairly sure the effects of the pregnancy will win me over in the long run...
Personally, I always thought of Peter as a bit of a rogue, so some of the character assassination that some see is just another side of Peter I always felt was there. I don't fault him for not realizing it was Fauxlivia very much .... after all she was in the same body and trying to fool him. I had 2 sets of identical twin friends in my life, and while I could tell them apart normally, if the wanted to fool me... they would sometimes. More over, I think much of Peter's not realizing it was Fauxlivia had to do with him hoping that he and Olivia would interact on those levels or get together. It is very easy to ignore things sometimes when we want the lies to be true.
is it possible that peter will choose our olivia and somehow they will raise fake olivias baby? i mean she may come over to find peter to tell him...crazy stuff happens....then he keeps it, without her and our oliva helps because genetically the baby would match her...?
this is a long shot.... not sure if i want it to happen that way - just thought of it and saw that nobody had considered it.
I thought the episode was great. Admittedly, ever since the 'Someone on TV is Pregnant' rumour started, everyone jumped to Fringe when I wonder if that original article hadn't surfaced would it be more of a surprise. Because people have had weeks to worry about where it's going, they seem to have decided it's gonna be crap. The storyline so far has been great, and I don't see why it would make it worse off. For me, best episode in 2011.
it was a better episode than i thought it would be. i for sure do not like the turn of events regarding altlivia being pregnant, but apart from that the episode was very compelling, imo. i like the dynamic the fringe division has over there. and even if my heart wil ALWAYS be with olivia, i have to say i like altlivia better now she's "over there", where she belongs. i still cannot understand how could she let a guy like frank go...... i guess it wasn't her intention, but c'mon! i think altlivia and frank really make a great couple! he's very dreamy..... ;)
With Fringe anything's possible. Who knows what will happen now. There's so many different ways it could go. The show's so unpredictable that it's anyones guess. I don't believe the writers will let the show go downhill. On a lot of shows the plot line can be detected, not on Fringe though. It's number 1. I voted awesome on the poll.
Well, I loved Fringe from the very beginning , i thought it was smart and different. But this baby storyline isnt working for me. Im not Peter/Olivia shipper but i got used to that idea, and i love Olivia as charatcer. Now im not sure if they are trying to get us to like Bolivia or if they want us to ship Peter/Bolivia. Im jsut really frustrated and i thought they could come up with something better than baby.
I think you just have to trust the writers. I think they know what they're doing. They already said in an interview that this won't "unfold in a traditional way".
she had to know when she first slept with Peter that she was sacrificing her relationship with Frank. Really, it was that easy for her to jump into the sack with Peter, then she must not have been thinking much of Frank. Sad thing, he was a cool guy.
No! don't give up... They'll bounce back, the writers said that they aren't doing a soap opraey thing and that it will unfold in another way. Have Fringe Faith.
yeah, I agree. I like our side but I do have to admit that I smiled and laughed more with this team of three, Scarlie/Lincoln/and Liv, then the other side. They seemed a little less burdened. And they openly joke and nag with eachother.
yeah it was good to see Charlie again, he's cool Lincoln as well...they are great they are like her brothers. My question is... how is she going to explain this whole situation with the baby to them, b/c they to were conned.
agreed. i miss olivia frickin' dunham!!! although i have to say that peter is not being presented to us as a very competent person either... i think he's a very underdevelopped character, he could have been much more complex but they made him be pretty much the caretaker. and this season, well, it's the straw that broke the camel's back. he's been dull. i so hope he gets some action in the last strech of episodes. i'm all about proactive peter ("reciprocity" peter!!)!!
I actually found myself liking Walternate more when he said that he wouldn't experiment on children. I think that humanized him a lot more because for a while I thought that there really were no boundaries he wouldn't cross to save his world. I guess we'll have to see if that lasts though... So Altivia is pregnant. Well like I said I'm going to trust the writers. They haven't let me down yet even when I didn't initially like the direction a storyline was going. Feel really bad for Frank though. Altivia just gave up a great guy (not that Peter isn't also a great guy). I have to be honest though...I'm slightly satisfied that she finally had to feel the repercussions for what she did. Before this it was just our Olivia and Peter who had to deal with them. I pretty much knew it was going to go to hell as soon as he asked her to marry him. Because this is Fringe and it seems like the character's get these fleeting moments of happiness just before something devastating happens. I don't think Altivia is too pleased about Walternate knowing she's pregnant either... Definitely got that vibe at the end and I don't blame her because Walternate was creeping me out at the end too, especially with that smile. Overall really good episode. Loved the bugs.
agreed. this is the first epsiode "over there" that i've enjoyed! i actually like the fringe division over there, they are fun! makes me miss charlie all the more, though.......
If I thought they were trying to get us into Fauxlivia and Peter as a couple... I would be annoyed too. I think they are just trying to show multiple facets of the alternates on the "other side". For the most part they have been out to get us... and now they are turning them into full dynamic characters. But I think in the end (I hope) that the show is and will always be about our Olivia and Peter and Walter....
I have trust in the writers, but non-traditional does not mean that the people that dislike Fauxlivia's pregnancy or "over there" will like it any more than if t were traditional....
I find myself in the middle for the most part. I started to like the other side more this episode but I am still not sold on the Walternate's grandson plot line.... I have faith they will be able to win me over, but I am not a shipper of Peter and Olivia either.....
Because you're talking about NEW girlfriends and boyfriends, you're not talking about the guy you're in love with technically having an affair with the alternate version of yourself (though not intentionally of course as he sincerely thought it was her). That's a lot to deal with for both Olivia and Peter and the baby would be a constant reminder of that for both of them. It's quite different.
Keep faith. This is Fringe we're talking about. I don't like the idea that Altivia is pregnant either but have faith in the writers to do something great with it. I mean the whole idea of an alternate universe sounded way too cliche to me when they first introduced it but in the end I loved it because they made it unique. And I have faith they will do the same with this storyline too. Don't give up yet.
completely agree with you. this was my favorite episode since marionette. as much as i dreaded the pregnancy, by the end of last night's episode i felt so much more sympathy for fauxlivia. i really liked her. i think fauxlivia was as creeped out by walternate's grin as the rest of us were.
Are you that unhappy with the current storyline that you’d rather see the show get cancelled than get renewed and have a chance to 'redeem' itself in season four?
Are you that unhappy with the current storyline that you’d rather see the show get cancelled than get renewed and have a chance to 'redeem' itself in season four
It's true. Not that the show needs any redeeming right now. But it's pathetic to see so-called "fans" jump ship so easily when they don't even give the writers a chance to show what they're trying to do with the twist. I'm not entirely happy with it either, but it's not like you're really supposed to be anyways. She was set up as a villain for a reason. What I am though, is intrigued by the possibilities. I trust they did it for great reasons, because they always do. A lot of people were skeptical earlier this season and thought moving back and forth between universes every episode was too drastic, but look at what happened, we got the best story arc of the whole show from those risks. The last thing this show needs right now is petty viewers who suddenly lose all faith because one twist goes in a direction they aren't sure about. We don't even know the consequences yet so like a reasonable person, I'm holding off judgment until then.
isnt it just like walter raising peter? i mean peter isnt HIS son, however they genetically match and they care about each other...so it doesnt matter who the biological walter was....its close enough.
that was my point with olivia and peter raising feuxolvias baby....eg say feuxolivia died, regardless peter loves our olivia....peters got a kid so they just have to make it work. it will look like both olivias sooo....point 'close enough'
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.
well that was just too obvious.. let's see how it plays out

ReplyDeleteSeeing as Shapeshifters are from over there, I think they must dream about real sheep rather than electric ones...

ReplyDeleteI've been thinking this too. OR maybe that baby will be an Observer. Maybe it's even September! Dun-dun-dun.
