Grey's Anatomy - Episode 7.16 - Not Responsible - Review

Last night’s episode of Grey’s Anatomy focused on the complexity of the relationships between the Surgeons at Seattle Grace in “Not Responsible”.

We went back to the baby dilemma between Mark, Callie and Arizona this week. Arizona and Mark find themselves disagreeing over the decision for Callie to have an “amniocentesis” or not. Callie was once again caught between the two but decided to go with Arizona and have the procedure. Arizona later revealed to Callie that while she respects Mark’s role in the decisions, this is not what she wanted. She wants a relationship between herself and Callie, not herself, Callie and Mark. I’m still surprised it took Arizona this long to say this to Callie. A few months ago Arizona didn’t even want children so she took the news pretty well. I hope Callie listens to what Arizona is saying, they are a beautiful couple but at the same time, Mark is in that relationship. It will be interesting to see what Callie chooses to do in terms of Mark.

Sticking with Mark, I’m sorry Slexie fans! Last night Lexie and Avery got together after Avery told Lexie he would be in a queue waiting for her. I’m disappointed at this. I’m not expecting Lexie to be OK with the baby decision but Mark just seems to have forgotten about Lexie and isn’t even trying to win her back. Let’s hope this is just a fling with Avery, I really love Mark and Lexie together.

There wasn’t any good news for Meredith last night as it was revealed that her fertility drugs were affecting her eyesight. Lucy (after rejecting Alex for a second time) told Meredith that she must immediately stop with the drugs. I was extremely sad for Meredith. As a huge Meredith fan, I am desperate for her and Derek to have a child, very soon. I think Shonda is really starting to annoy these fans now, it’s one thing after another for Meredith and Derek. Let them have a baby and be happy for once!

Adele was back this week after suffering another fall. This time Bailey was on her case and agreed with Meredith that something must be mentally wrong with her as she was not coherent or consistent with her stories. At the end, we see the Chief approach Derek and ask him to take a look at Adele and assess what is wrong with her. This was very brave of the Chief, it was clearly hard for him to do.

Overall, it was another great episode from Grey’s! A little bit heavy on the relationship side but the medical cases were interesting, what we saw of them anyway, which wasn’t much, and they were also very relationship focused. But that’s Grey’s Anatomy for you. We also saw Stark ask April out on a date after she convinced him to change his mind about a patient and Christina and Owen argue over having children (baby overload right now).

I want to see more episodes like last week and the week before were the relationship story lines were balanced with the medical story lines. This is a medical show and episodes like last night, although still enjoyable and great, they make the show feel a bit “soap” like. Let’s hope the writer’s have some awesome medical cases up their sleeves.

What did you guys think?

  1. you are not the only one who hates the JL. SL :( it's soo sad, I mean Mark and Lexie were together again for what? 3 episodes it's just so sad I really believe that they will be back together, but it's going to take time :( and I hate waiting :(

  2. I hated the episode :( It was such a let down after the great "Golden Hour" last week. The only highlight was Lexie getting together with Avery, sorry Slexie fans. I'm so over Mark and Lexie, never cared much about them but lately the pairing seems even more devoid of chemistry or real affection. And Shonda isn't really "starting" to annoy MerDer fans, we're long past that point...

  3. TBH, I really believe it would dumb for Lexie to go back to Mark now, after all that he's done to her. I mean, okay, maybe they were adorable for a while (although I am on the other side, sorry), maybe they even still love each other, but now Mark acts like Lexie doesn't exist. I think it's better for her to stick with Avery, as he's the one who cares for her. If you look at the characters, not the shippers the Lexie/Jackson is the wiser choice for Lexie. Plus, I find them adorable since the episode in which Avery punched Alex. ;)

  4. I detested this episode and I've gotten to the point of not being able to stop myself from hating the show. Shonda said that Callie and Arizona "would go through hell" but they were apart for all of 2 months and now it's "business as usual." Callie is a whore - and let's not try to be PC about this. She is doing the same thing Mark does and if it deserves a "cussing out" when Mark does it, then it equally deserves a "cussing out" when Callie does it yet nothing happens. Mark and Lexie were broke up when Shonda had Mark sleep with Addison on Priv. Prac. LAST FEBRUARY!!! They were apart until a month ago and then were together for all of a couple of episodes and now they're split again. SR said Mark/Lexie are the couple but we just have to wait. I agree with the poster who said they're sick of waiting - I am too. The M/L fan base has waited long enough for enough times. Shonda has turned this into the "Callie and Arizona Show" as she thinks they are MFEO but Mark and Lexie are the best MFEO couple on Grey's and that includes Meredeith and Derek.

  5. MerDer fans have MerDer as a couple. Shonda keeps toying with Mark and Lexie, starting with Valentine's Day 2010. To us Mark and Lexie are the best MFEO couple on Grey's but I hate how SR is bringing them to a reconciliation and there will be one. Shonda has said that they are the couple so J/L is temporary but the M/L fans are not just "starting" to get annoyed. We sailed by "pissed off and completely disgusted " a long time ago, as well.

  6. Mark is doing exactly what every playboy type does when he realizes he has met the woman who is going to catch him - run like the devil is right behind him. I believe he truly loves Lexie but the kind of life Mark has lead up to this point never prepared him for that kind of feeling. As for Avery and Lexie, the "perfect fit" isn't always the perfect couple. Remember Derek and Addison? On paper they were a good match but, in actuality, they were miserable.

  7. Mark and Lexie being the best MFEO couple is a matter of opinion ;) Meredith and Derek have always had the chemistry (even when they were apart) and they still have it in spades after all those seasons and limited screen time. IMO Slexie lacks in that department big time. Or maybe it's just how the writers s*rewed it all up. But honestly even Bailey and her nurse seem more made for each other. ;D

  8. I used the term "starting" as I feel it's only starting to rub off onto the more casual viewer and non Meredith/Derek shippers. I wrote it from the perspective of someone who watches casually. But yes, as a M/D shipper (the main reason I watch the show), I was annoyed a long time a go. But this season has really took being annoyed to another level.

I think all shippers ships are the MFEO couple of a show too. Personally I wouldn't Slexie are for Grey's, but like you say, matter of opinion ;)

  9. I'm totally over Mark and Lexie now. He's spent two seasons treating her like shit. And Jackson likes her and respects her. Plus they're sexy and cute together.

Now if only Mark could get the hell away from Callie and Arizona. He always seems to have his manbits shoved inside Callie whenever she's in a lesbian relationship and after four seasons of it it's getting really old.

  10. There's a difference between running and impregnating other women.

  11. Couldn't agree more. Mark's character seemed to degrade even more, not grow. He used to be a charming manwhore, now he's just a creep.
