How does Fox feel about Fringe’s performance on Friday so far?
Quite enthusiastic.
“I’m so psyched about it,” says Fox entertainment president Kevin Reilly. “It does go to show you the loyalty of the genre audience, when you get the right show. I’m so grateful to that audience, I’d like to shake their hands. We have a lot of passion for that show here.”
Now, this interview was just before last Friday’s second-in-row dip, but most other shows also fell that night and one rating does not a reputation make. As for Human Target ….
“We have some decisions to make about that,” Reilly says, “and Lie to Me as well. These shows are not being rejected. They’re doing a consistent and solid number. There are networks that would be happy to take those shows. We have to look at our shelf space.”
Translation: We’re going to decide about Human Target and Lie after we see our pilots for next fall. But keep in mind, Fox only programs two hours a night, so that’s a pretty crowded shelf….

A shelf made even more crowded by X-Factor....
ReplyDeleteI'll be super psyched if both Fringe and Human Target get renewed.
ReplyDeletePS - I hate "reality" shows.
Yeah, it all depends on how Fringe does this week. It really needs to bounce back to a 1.6-1.7 if it wants to remain on good terms with Reilly.
ReplyDeleteExpand to 3 hours a night.. simple solution! Keep what you have now, add 3 or 4 more series in addition to The X Factor and you're done. You keep millions of fans of 3 series on the bubble happy, get revenue from advertisers and can always replace them with reruns of shows you cancelled too soon like Arrested Development, the Tick, John Doe, Undeclared, Brimstone, Wonderfalls, Briscoe County Jr., and of Course Firefly.
ReplyDeleteJust keep watching Fringe. We want a 4th season. If you can't watch live, DVR it and watch it within 24hrs so it counts as same day ratings. Come Fringies unite. Fringe rules.
ReplyDeleteI'll be there watching it live, wouldn't miss it. Let's get Fringe through this and keep it going.
ReplyDeleteWhat if you can't do either? :(
ReplyDeleteThat sucks!
ReplyDeletedo your re-watches (or first watches) on hulu or fox's site! jasika nicole posted something on her tumblr about fox exec's really watching those online numbers right now.
ReplyDeleteYa know, I always wonder how accurate Nielsen ratings are.... considering such a small sample have boxes. Excluding overseas or online viewers... I wonder if a show could chronically be getting ratings of say 5 million and actually have double or more that watch ...I know their is a science and actuarial tables and whatnot, but it seems like hokum to me!
ReplyDeleteGod I really like a lot of shows FOX cancelled... it's a wonder I don't hate the nnetwork! Hmmm... maybe I do after all....
ReplyDeleteRENEW HUMAN TARGET PLEASE! one of the best shows on television right now :D
ReplyDeleteI for one will not watch anything on the network if Human Target isn't renewed and
ReplyDeleteI am an avid FOX viewer. Don't make me change....
I have to assume (at this moment) it's looking like Fringe will be renewed, and both Lie To Me and Human Target won't. Such a shame really.
ReplyDeleteWish you were right :-D
ReplyDeleteUnless you've got a niesen box, it does not matter if you watch it
ReplyDeletelive or not. That's the problem. Only people with Nielsen boxes count.
Yep, the whole system needs re-thinking.
ReplyDeleteIf they have t chose, I prefer they renew Lie To me or Fringe (better if it's both), but no Human Target.
ReplyDeleteThey need to plug into satellite and cable companies results as most people have them and it would be easy to pull those into rating polls and get a more accurate viewing audience result.
ReplyDeleteThey should renew them all. If they made "Lie to Me" and "Human Target" late summer and early fall shows, then both shows would probably have amazing ratings (not much else to watch), fans would be happy, and they would still have enough room for their new shows.
