Weekly Poll - Favorite Demon

It looks like the favorite angel poll is going to be a blow out. Will this one be too? We've got the self-proclaimed King of Hell against Hell's Chief Torturer. The demon who started it all is up against his daughter, the demon that won't stay dead. Will the first demon defeat the one who got her killed and destroyed the Winchester bond as well? There are lots of good choices this time. Who is your favorite demon?

My blog

  1. AZAZEL

This guy was the FONZI of evil.....and i wish to see him again :))

He was so COOL in all his EVILNESS and you really believed the WINCHESTERS were screwed when he was running things....Well.....untill Dean shot him in the head with the COLT :))

No One has surpassed him in my eyes....Not even CROWLEY...But special mention to MEG.....the original one.......What a BIATCH and great fun to watch.....Best girl demon, and wonderfully acted by the actress :))

  2. Really? Crowley? He was cool an all, but he was no yellow eyes.

  3. hmmm....I thought I was gonna vote for Crowley and then I thought about what an utter a-hole Alastair was....
and then I thought about Azazel.....and then there was Ruby.....out of any of them she came closest to tearing the bros apart.....
Obviously not nearly as clear cut as the angel poll....

  4. Azazel. He was just so damn evil and awesome at the same time.

  5. Voted Crowley because he's evil, vile, manipulative, and funny all in one mixed up package.

  6. This one is hard for me because their have been so many delightfully nasty demons. My gut reaction is to say Crowley, especially since I hated his death scene. He deserved better. I loved his snark and all-about-me attitude. He went toe-to-toe with the Winchesters and won many times, but he also helped them stop the Apocalypse. He took a big risk in opposing Lucifer and it paid off big time. But mostly, because he was played to perfection by Mark Sheppard. I love that guy.

However, in the grand scheme of the show, Azazel had my attention the most. Heck, they're still bringing him back to torment the brothers. It was his plan all along to kick start the Apocalypse. You can't say he thinks short-term. He was the first demon to give me chills by incorporating humor with a serial killer stare. In fact, he still creeps me out. The fact is that we could have this show without Crowley. Nothing takes place without YED. He is the demon supreme. Plus, his death proved Supernatural is a show that takes risks.

But then there is Alastair. No one on this show has ever been more menacing. Even his lisp-speak chills me. It takes a lot of evil to become the head torturer in hell, where every day is pretty much torture itself. But what really made him evil incarnate to me is how even when he was being tortured by Dean, he was dishing out some mega-mental torture to Dean. That guy is really, really good at his job and that scares me more than anyone.

I loved Casey as the only demon I ever felt sorry for. She gave us a demon perspective that wasn't so far off angel perspective, but she was more compelling. I also loved the crossroad demon in her/his/its many personas. My favorite was the one Dean devil-trapped, but they were all cool in their own way. I liked how Tammi went from housewife to witch to demon in one episode. Pride was also distinctive, but all of these were far too light in character to win this poll for me.

What to say about Ruby? I may be the only person who liked Bela better than Ruby. She irked me from her ninja tree girl entrance to her truly satisfying death. I hope to never see her again. Yet, she was the demon we got to know best. She also had the most immediate effect on the brothers relationship (along with YED.) She did more to change the storyline than any other demon here.

Lilith was brutal to watch. The fact that she preferred kids' bodies always seemed strange to me, but they definitely had a bigger impact on me as a viewer. If I hadn't already been through the Anointed One on Buffy and knew what happened to powerful beings using kid bodies, I would have found her a bigger threat. As it was, she always seemed far too feebly minded to be as big of a threat as she was. Her "me pretty" speech was annoying too.

Meg Masters - the one I never can decide about. Sometimes I love Meg (when 1.0 died, the action Meg of this season) but other times she annoys the tar out of me (the lame Meg of Salvation, all of season 5). It seems like every time I make up my mind about her she changes. She's like 12 demons in multiple bodies - hard to keep up with. For the record, I'm also one of the few that likes the current Meg a whole lot better than Meg 1.0 of the horrid wig.

  7. Alastair. http://ssuzuki.files.wordpress.com/2009/03/spn416_388.jpg That guy who played him was freakin AWESOME. Other than that...Azazel or Crowley

  8. I tried not to vote Crowley, because I have being apart of the majority, but Goddamn, he IS the best demon.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Ok - eliminating Ruby from the list - yes she was an evil bitch who nearly destroyed Sam and Dean's relationship - but she's not my favorite demon.....

Azazel can go too - I agree with what Dahne said about him, but he's not my favorite demon......

So that leaves me with Alastair and Crowley......

    ReplyDelete
  10. Agreed. I think this one is harder than the episode poll. So, what did you end up choosing or are you like me waiting a little longer to make up your mind?

    ReplyDelete
  11. Thanks for sharing your opinion. I agree that he was well-acted. Gave me shivers every time he opened his mouth.

  12. Hi DAHNE *waves*

    HAPPY NEW YEAR <33

'AZAZEL was the first demon to give me chills by incorporating humor with a serial killer stare'

YES this.......i always find it hard to categorise him....but thanks for this.....humor with a serial killer stare...also his 'SAMMY BOY'....truly F**ked up :))

'But then there is Alastair. No one on this show has ever been more menacing. Even his lisp-speak chills me. OH... I like this.....But i always got a CREEPY PAEDOPHILIC vibe off him, which was SHUDDER inducing....He was one SICK DEMON....Getting off on his own torture *shudder*

'Lilith was brutal to watch. The fact that she preferred kids' bodies always seemed strange to me, but they definitely had a bigger impact on me as a viewer'

Yeah me too.....trying to wrap my head around that evilness in a tiny child......The element of surprise i think...

"oh look.....isn't she adorable......oh.....now i have a fork in my eye"

Also having to imagine the boys taking her in a fight.....Asking myself...do i really wanna see Sam/Dean punch a tiny child in the face....cause thats uncomfortable :))

Actually i think Dean did Hit a Child when he went into the future.....kinda shocked that he did.....but she was a Zombie so MEH :)))

  13. This was a hard one for me. I love Crowley's attitude and wit. Meg is the Queen of creepy little demon things and has been with us since practically the beginning, but overall the King of Demons still rests with Azazel for me, though Meg gave him a run for his money.

    ReplyDelete
  14. great reasons for each of these
i would just like you to know that i also liked bela better than ruby
i never really liked ruby, especially in season 4 but i always thought bela was funny, the way she tormented the boys but in a different way to all the monsters and demons

i think that lillith preferred kids bodies because it was more sinister. a little girl killing a bunch of people is WAY more evil than an adult killing a bunch of people. and being the first demon means she is way more evil than regular demons.

  16. Hmmmm... this one is actually kind of hard, Dahne. As much as I loved Crowley and all his English sass, I think I'm gonna have to go with Azazel. The YED in John was so malevolent messing with Dean's head. I think that set the tone for all demons to come. Loved Fred Lehne's version and all incarnations of the YED have been pretty consistent, unlike other demons that pop up in different meat suits. So YED gets my vote.

  18. i went with azazel
he was the first real evil the show had. the big bad. the fact that his eyes were yellow meant that he meant business. he always had this massive master plan and i loved that even when we thought we understood the reasons behind all his actions, we were soon to find out there was an even bigger plan in store. from creating the psychic kids to dropping them in a town and making them waste each other to opening the devils gate and freeing lillith and ruby all in order to raise lucifer, azazel was pure genius evil.

IMO yes crowley is great with his humour and evil and helping out even though he's secretly helping himself but i don't think he really stuck out that much as a character the first few times and yellow eyes definately did. he drove the plot for the first two seasons!! and his death scene in the graveyard was pretty epic.

ruby changed the show in season 4 and altered everything but honestly, i hate ruby. the other demons i don't mind, even though i don't like them as a character, i just hate ruby. especially season 4 ruby. to me she's just like zachariah. i just hate them. i get that their characters were awesomely evil and all, i just hate them and would never vote for them in a poll unless it was most hated characters. ruby rant over.

alastair. he was creepy. he always managed to posses people with creepy voices too which just amped up his super level of creepiness. he was lead torturer, gave dean hell and was pretty badass but he never really stuck with me.

i didn't mind meg suring season one. she was a great rival. we didn't know who she was but she kept showing up and wrecking havoc. but then she kinda got lame. i did love it when she possesed sam though, that wasa great episode.

so, thats why i voted for yellow eyes :D

  19. HAPPY NEW YEAR Rochey *big hug* missed you <3

    ' One acted like a PAEDO and the other a JOKER.....what to choose.....what to choose :)) '

That makes it sound so bizarre!!!

    Oh wait.....this is Supernatural....of course it's bizarre.......

    ReplyDelete
  20. also, i'm very gald. this week's polls have been so much easier than favourite episode. those were hard. i never ended up deciding on season 5 so i ddin't even vote for that one!!!
so far this one's been easier...so far :D

    ReplyDelete
  21. she was his daughter

    ReplyDelete
  22. I love Mark Sheppard as Crowley, but I'm gonna go with Azazel here.
Yellow Eyes was such an integral part of the first two seasons, and I loved him in...all 4 (?) meatsuits (John, Fredric Lehne, Grandpa Campbell and the guy in Lucifer Rising). He was creepy, mysterious, sadistically funny and carried such weight as a character.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The guy who played him in "I Know what you Did Last Summer" and "Heaven and Hell" was good too:
    "Oh, I forgot, I'm wearing a pediatrician"

Every time I hear Alistair sing "Cheek to Cheek" I get chills, though!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Ok you know what?

I totally agree that in terms of importance to the show, and pure evilness Azazel trumps Crowley.....
but I WUV Crowley <3 ......I really, really want to vote for him....

Anyone want to try to talk me out of it?

    ReplyDelete
  25. think about it in the whole scheme of things that are evil. crowley just wanted to better himself.
azazel wanted to raise lucifer and start the apocalypse!! he's way more evil!!! and he killed mary. and john. and ordered sam's death. and probably dean's near death in that car accident.
    vote for azazel!!

    ReplyDelete
  26. I was tempted to go with Alistair because the last Alistair was soooooo creepy. The accent / voice was off putting when the first guy did it, but when the last guy did it, I was like "that was genius!". The accent helped us track the demon to the different meat suit and it was totally believable... and he was just sooo calm. But, he was a demon and he behaved the way I expected a demon to behave. Ruby however, had me totally fooled. Yes I am one of the 5% that totally believed her bull right up to the end. I fought for her :-) Yes, I didn't "trust her"... I kind of thought she wanted Lilith dead so that she could be the next "boss"... But, why would she offer to kill herself in Jus in Bello? That is what I kept going back to... Then, she let herself get tortured by Alistair... I was totally taken in. When I saw that possessive look on her face when Sam drank her blood I got a shiver up my spine, but I just thought she was helping Sam to use Sam for some reason that we didn't know yet... but "fell" for him as much as a demon could. So, yeah. I gotta say Ruby is my choice because she really stands out. I actually thought she was at least a nominal ally and she totally fooled me :-)

    ReplyDelete
  27. He was a great character, but he was gone in a blink. I was prepared to "hate him" all year, then bang. Done. That is one of the reasons I didn't go with him. He was just gone before I could love to hate him...

    ReplyDelete
  28. but i also found that i never really hated him. i just didn't mind him.
i don't think we saw enough of him when he was in power to really get on the hate train

    ReplyDelete
  29. See, now we're getting into dangerous territory.............

I desperately want to say that, while Azazel might be the BEST demon, Crowley is my FAVORITE demon....but I know if I did that, nobody here would ever speak to me again.....

Because I think we've all had enough of the best vs favorite debate..... I know I sure did.....

    ReplyDelete
  30. well, i guess if we are here voting for favourite then you have to vote crowley. but... shouldn't someone be your favourite for being the best? and azazel was really the best at what he did. but i also don't want to start one of those favourite vs. best wars. supernatural fans got enough of that thrown at us during the best character/shows polls last month

    ReplyDelete
  31. Good to know I'm not the only one against the "We hate Bela" platoon. I find that Bela in small doses was a lot of fun. Although I recently watched 4 Bela episodes in a row and that got tiresome. I think she could have been a cool character if given the chance.

I guess my real problem with Lilith comes when she was in Katie Cassidy's body. (I understand how children killers are far more scary than adult ones. I don't understand why something that powerful would make itself vulnerable. Mostly this is because Spike dispatched the Anointed One with one hand on Buffy, which of course is not this show. I kept waiting fro a new big bad to take Lilith down though.) When Lilith took over Ruby, she was like a 4 year-old who was suddenly inserted in a grown body. You'd think if anything, the kids would seem far more adult than they were, not the opposite. I guess it's one of those points that always bug me. She's what 3,000 years old. Why is she speaking like a 6 year-old? Giggle, giggle, I like this body, giggle, it's pretty giggle. Who can take that seriously?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Hi Rochey! *waves back*

I hope your new year is going well too. I'm glad you brought up the evil kid thing. I was not looking forward to seeing Dean or Sam shoot a child, even Lilith, with the Colt. I was also nervous with the changeling kids. It's hard to see violence to a child even when that child is playing evil personified. I've liked the way they have skirted the issue so far. I was really glad that Lilith chose an older body when Sam killed her. It makes those scenes go down more easily. However, the child torture of The Third Man and the baby bait of Two and a Half Men make me wonder where we are headed in this season. Were those just to show how different RoboSam was or is it a hint of a darker season to come? Can't wait to get some answers in 2 weeks.

    ReplyDelete
  33. that was one massive bracket. i never watched buffy but maybe lillith posses little girls because no one wants to harm one. i saw someone else say that in their comment but i'mjust repeating it here. sam or dean aren't going to beat up a little girl or shoot her.
maybe she acts like a little girl becuase she was one when she died. a really evil one and thats why lucifer turned her into a demon. just a really random theory that i have never thought about till just then.
its very unlikely. maybe she just likes to act like a little girl because it catches her opponents off gaurd or something?
    i dunno.
i haven't seen no rest ofr the wicked in ages!!
maybe i need to rewatch it. i think i will

  34. 'shouldn't someone be your favourite for being the best? '

    Yes. Absolutely.

But I like Crowley in a way I never liked Azazel.......
I like the way he was so obviously out for himself....I mean who made him 'King of Hell'? I bet he did...
I like the way he so ruthlessly went about manipulating people into doing what he wanted...bribing Grandpa Creepy with the possibility of getting Mary back; threatening the boys with throwing Sam back in the cage....
I like the way he absolutely didn't give a s**t about anybody - even his own son (even Azazel was upset about Tom getting killed).....
I like his snarky humor.... 'I don't need you to fight my battles for me, Moose. Get bent.'
I was upset when he died.....
I cheered when Azazel bought it.....

    ReplyDelete
  35. :-) Lol. It's favorite so that people don't feel guilty for voting for who they want. I say vote your gut. I'm between Crowley and Azazel myself. We'll probably cancel each other out. :-P

    ReplyDelete
  36. all great reasons
its funny how those two demons from one show could be so different.
also, neither of them were regular demons. (what made his eyes yellow anyhow? his super evil creepiness level?)
i say you should vote for crowley. you clearly want to :D

    ReplyDelete
  37. vote azazel!!!
only because i'm pretty sure jillyanne is gonna end up voting crowley

    ReplyDelete
  38. True. In fact, I still like Crowley even though he made the Winchesters jump through hoops this season. To me, he's that fun acquaintance that you know is going to get you in trouble and then leave you on the hook while they get off scot free. But then when you see them again, you somehow get entangled in their latest scheme again event hough you know better than to trust them. Plus, he's funny!

    ReplyDelete
  39. thats exactly what happened. the whole colt not killing lucifer incident. they were pissed at him, sam tried to stab him, then they all just started working together!!
but yeah, he did make me laugh, they way he taunted and made fun of them. he was very sarcastic

    ReplyDelete
  40. Interesting thought. I never really thought about when Lilith died. If she died when she was a kid, that makes a whole lot more sense. Now I want some Lilith back story because I am really intrigued.

    ReplyDelete
  41. lol, she would have had to have been a REALLY messed up kid. like that evil girl from provenance..only more evil!!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm still leaning towards Azazel and had almost made up my mind before reading Jillyanne's post. I too was upset when Crowley bit it. I'm going to miss that little backstabber of evilness. I think I would have been more okay with it if he had an epic death like Azazel. With Azazel's death it felt so final, so massive. With Crowley it was almost a sidenote in a jam-packed episode.

    ReplyDelete
  43. You have made this so much harder with this post. :-P

    ReplyDelete
  44. I live to be a pain in the a** :P

    ReplyDelete
  45. maybe his crappy little death by fire means he will be back.
coz you're right. azazel's was big and final. and it was the colt and had all these special effects and cool shots.
and had a two season build up.
crowleys death was quick and a bit silly. i think if that is the end for crowley he died at the wrong time but who knows, maybe he'll be back!!
after finding purgatory. isn't that where dead demons go?

    ReplyDelete
  46. I do clearly want to, don't I? Thanks for your input lostrocks4ever - it's helped a lot to talk it through - I really do appreciate it :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. Ok I've decided to go with Crowley.

For all the reasons I listed earlier, but especially because he called Sam 'Moose'.
(Don't hate me for that Samgirls please).....it's just soooo funny......

    ReplyDelete
  48. you're very welcome.
even though i still want you to vote azael :D he needs the votes
although i see now you hve already voted. welldone!!

    ReplyDelete
  49. We are cancelling each other out. Azazel for me because for 2 years I hated him with the passion of a Winchester and yet each time he was on screen he mesmerized me. There's no SPN without YED.

    ReplyDelete
  50. toomuchtimeonmyhands13 January 2011 at 07:21

I hope Crowley comes back... somehow...

    ReplyDelete
  51. Well, if I remember well, he possesed reaper Tessa too in IMTOD, because she got yellow eyes (just after John made a deal with YED to save Dean). It was only for a very short moment, though.

    ReplyDelete
  52. ok, so much like debbie combs, i was also completely fooled by ruby. i actually really really liked her (well the orginal katie cassidy ruby anyway, i tried but really couldn't like the genevieve cortesse version - which actually works really well for me since i can associate blonde with kickass and awesome and brunette with sneaky bitch).

although strangely, as much as like liked and somewhat trusted her, i wasn't that shocked (ok, a little shocked) by her betrayal. now, that could be because a little part of me always doubted her but i think i'm gonna go with "has been desensitized from these shocks due to watching too much tv".

as chilling and terrifying demons like alastair and azazel were, and as amusing crowley was, ruby just sticks out in my head.

    ReplyDelete
  53. This is one of the hardest choices. Seriously. I have to go with Alistair. On the Head of a Pin was Emmy quality acting for Alistair and Dean. He was such an incredible adversary for Dean. He is actually one of the few who could really, truly rattle Dean.

    ReplyDelete
  54. All these demons were/are actually great characters. It's amazing how you can have so many so different demons in one show. Each and every one of them has their own personality, their own style and own way of being demonic, which is great! No matter if I hate them, love to be scared of them, actually like them or I'm just simply annoyed with them, you cannot deny they're all worthy opponents to the Winchesters.

But when it comes to voting... my strategy in the case of demons is to vote for the one who made the biggest impression on me, regardless of my "liking" them. And that is:

Alastair hands down. The scariest demon this show has ever had. He was creepy, dark, brutal, dangerous and strong. Simply evil. Master torturer who turned Dean's hell into... well, hell. And still haunted him on earth. And proved mental torture can be just as bad if not worse than the physical one. He popped out in season 4 to reveal Dean's darkest secrets and add some more and turned out more powerful than some angels. The I-love-to-be-scared-of-him type of demon. Favourite demon in a favourite season, easy choice.

I could've easily gone with Lilith too, though, with her white eyes and possessing little girls. I loved the first girl who portrayed her, with that little angel look and sweet voice. Also liked the other little girl, but then the character kind of lost her creepiness when they made her a grown woman. Although I do believe it was necessary to the plot.

Azazel was the one who started it, but I never found him important as a character who actually has something to do or say. He was more like a target for the boys to seek and hit. He had his five minutes while possessing John, but there was definitely more of him in the Winchesters' conversations and actually on the screen.

As for the girls, Ruby and Meg, I prefered the blondes. The blond Ruby I even liked and I'm really curious how I'd have reacted if she had still been portayed by Cassidy in season 4. With Cortese I was annoyed from the first time she appeared on the screen and there wasn't much connecting the two Rubys. They were like two totally different characters. Cortese did really not bother to check Cassidy's way of portaying Ruby and actually try to continue it that way. She just did her own vision, which annoyed me too. So all season long, I wanted her out. If it had been Cassidy I might have actually be surprised and confused at the end.

And Crowley, well, I liked him at first (in season 5) but then he went on annoying me more and more with his "king of hell" thing. I was glad Cas got rid of him once for good.

    ReplyDelete
  55. its funny, i only just noticed that both meg and ruby started blonde and turned brunette. and i liked both of them when they were blonde. the blonde ones were way more kickass.
i also agree that brunette ruby didn't really keep anything the same as the first ruby

    ReplyDelete
  56. Crowley almost wins this category as easily ag Gabriel wins the other one :D

I voted for Mr. King of Crossroads too. I liked his style, his wit. Liked his helhound too :)

Yes, Azazel was amazing of course, but Crowley was just the type of stylish I enjoy. The sort of demon that was not for open violence. Plus he's an anti-Lucifer demon, which was rather rare.

Oh and one other thing that explains a lot about Crowley's awesomeness: Mark Sheppard, no other comment os needed. That man is brilliant in whatever he does.

    So my runner-ups are:

    2. Azazel
    3. Alastair
    4. Meg
    5. Ruby

    ReplyDelete
  57. Azazel! I can't believe he's not winning! :O He was the one who started it and all, and he's just so evil :D
Yes, Crowley is awesome, but he just can't beat Yellow Eyes! o.O

    ReplyDelete
  58. I voted for Alastair for the exact same reason :) Thanks for posting this b/c it is 100% how I feel about all the demons :) Are you a mind reader or something? ha ha ha ha ha :)

    ReplyDelete
  59. I voted for YED, but Crowley is a very close second! It's just that YED was more... LOL I can't explain it!

    ReplyDelete
  60. Hard choice, I have to admit. Between Azazel and Ruby. I ended up voting for her, but still YED was basically the reason of the Winchester's every move. Ruby- in the portrayal of Katie Cassidy - was the best female character ever for me. She was kick-ass, bitchy, though and everything a "good" demon is supposed to be. I know that the character ended up as a villain, but in my head "awesome" Ruby 1.0 and the "Jared-wife-evil-not-so-awesome" Ruby 2.0 are basically different characters.:)

  61. hmm... this was surprisingly hard choise! i chose crowley 'cause somehow he's different than other demons of the show. yes, he's sly, cocky and cheat but still there's something i like about him. maybe it's the fact that crowley has more balls than any other demon xD it's the fact that he helped sam and dean several times and he wasn't ashamed to admit he wasn't interested in saving people's lives. i mean other demons had big plans but they weren't smart enough to pull them off...well, crowley was the king of the hell as he wanted! though he was a demon i miss him!

  62. Alistair. The reasons:

    1. He had some of the best lines ever.
    2. He was in my 5th favourite episode.
    3. He had a creepy accent.
    4. He was Hell's torturer.
    5. HE DIED

  63. When is someone going to give Mark Sheppard his own show. The man deserves one. He's been in about every genre show I know and he always makes them better. If SPN gets renewed soon like I expect to be, maybe our letter writing campaign of the year should be on Mark Sheppard's behalf.
