Weekly Poll #6 - Favorite Angel (Excluding Castiel)
After some wacky nominating snafus we are ready to vote in this week's polls. We will do favorite angel, demon, human, object, and other. Based on the votes today and yesterday, the Impala will be entered in the Character, Other category instead of as an inanimate object. Yes, I know she's a car. Yes, she will likely win. Majority rules, and the majority overwhelmingly voted for her as a character. (Insert all grumbling, complaining, moaning, arguing, etc. here. Yell about it. Curse the day that we chose to do polls to pass the hiatus. Rant some more.) OK. Is everyone better? Also, Chuck Shurley will be included in the Human poll because according to Supernatural canon that is what he is. Fandom may believe him to be something else, but nothing on that front has been confirmed. Nor is it likely to be. (Insert grumbling, complaining, moaning.....oh, just see above.) I think we are ready now.
Each poll will be open for roughly 48 hours. Polls toward the end of the week may have less time and will likely be posted closer together so that results will be in by 6-ish on Sunday. All times are Midwest USA time. Comments are lovely (usually) so choose your favorite angel and don't forget to tell us why. I think these polls are going to be harder for me than the episode ones because I like different people for different reasons. How do I choose between the fun-loving awesomeness of Gabriel and the bureaucratic nightmare and general loathsomeness of Zachariah? Two complete opposites and still both amazing in their own way.

ReplyDeleteI'm going to have to go with Gabriel because he is he brought us some awesome episodes both before and after we knew what he was. Mystery Spot was both heartbreaking and hilarious and of course makes you wonder how many things in your every day life are lethal. Now that we've seen season 6, I guess RoboSam made his first appearance in Mystery Spot; even with his soul he still felt empty without Dean. Of course Changing Channels is one of my favourite episodes, I voted it best of season 5 (though yes Swan Song was epic...maybe we should have a poll of Most Epic Episode :P). We finally find out his true identity, about the brothers being the vessels and are treated to Dr. Sexy and Dean in the same 'television show'. Then his final episode, 101 Hammer of the gods where he actually dies and we see what happened to Gabriel and Lucifer and what could happen with Sam and Dean if they said yes to Michael and Lucifer, and a scary thought what could happen between even if they didn't. Also glad Castiel isn't in this poll since he would have won. :P

ReplyDeleteCastiel is such an overwhelming fan favorite that he is in the Untouchable Hall of Fame. This is only for the lesser, yet still awesome, other angels in the series. :-)

ReplyDeleteOkay,my choice is obviously Gabriel!He gave us two of the most amazing,in my opinion,episodes in the whole series(Mystery Spot,Changing Channels) and he was the only Angel(apart from Cas,of course)who sided with humanity!
But even though the other Angels are kind of dicks,I found most of them awesome!Especially Zachariah...Kurt Fuller did an incredible job and if Gabriel wasn't on the list,my vote would go to him!

Voted Balthazar, even though we've seen so little of him so far. I just love his accent and the "Tell Raphael to bite me" just won me over! (love the way he says "Raphael").
ReplyDeleteI always kind of had a problem with the Trickster being Gabriel. I thought it was a bit far-fetched. Not that I didn't love the porno tape or him changing his attitude in Hammer of the Gods, but before that he was such a pain in the ass for the boys. It's really hard for me to forgive him what he did to Sam in Mystery Spot. Although he gets a point for creativity - Dean's deaths were hilarious.

ReplyDeleteGabriel. Even when he was just a trickster, I loved his warped sense of humor. And revealing him as Gabriel was, IMO, a stroke of genius. Since he is also the only angel who has not been a complete dick -- or at least the only one who died for humanity -- he's got my vote. Although, I was tempted to vote for Angel Agent #3, whoever that was, simply because that is just an awesome name. :)

but most of the angel interactions have been....shall we say, less than positive, .....even Anna turned on them...
I really wanted to vote for something positive this time around......so that's why I voted for Gabe - he was at least funny while he screwed the boys over......

Angel Agent #3 - Sorry, but I liked agent #2 better. Agent #3 just didn't move me as much so he/she is out.
Anna Milton - Annoyed me as crazy girl, intrigued me as grace-less angel, irked me as betrayer, although I did understand her point. It was the smart plan. Definitely better than everyone else's.
Balthazar - I like him, especially the screw it attitude he brings. He's the closest to Gabriel we have left. Still, he hasn't been on long enough so the verdict is still out on him.
Cupidfat, hairy naked man-boy. NO THANKS!
GabrielHe's my favorite "love to love" angel. I thoroughly enjoyed him as the Trickster and I knew it would be a good episode when I saw Richard Speight Jr. in the cast. Mystery Spot was phenomenal; Changing Channels may be the funniest episode of all. Tall Tales was one of those out-there episodes that really worked for me. I'm not sure if I love the character or the episodes that the character brought more. I do know that I was more shocked by the "Trickster is an archangel" twist than anything else that season. Never saw it coming and that's a hard thing to pull off on a show where the fan base talks and theorizes so much. All in all, I am sad he died because he was a guaranteed good time.
JoshuaProbably the most noble and humble of all the angels. His mere presence didn't make me want to stab him. But he was the bearer of bad news. I might not shoot the messenger but I won't vote for him either.
LuciferLamest Satan of all time. The victim of poor writing and an anticlimactic plot. Every demon last year was scarier than him, except maybe the wussy waitress demon from the first episode.
MichaelCould have been the most powerful character of the season but we never really got to see him. Such wasted potential. I did think Young John was the best Michael.
UrielMy second most hated angel, but all the good parts were other people commenting about him. He might have had a shot if it weren't for....
Zachariah, the angel I love to hate. He reminds me of the worst boss I ever had. Petty, self-important, drunk on his own power, Zachariah had me grinding my teeth every time he showed up. From his middle manager ways to the smarmy way he was sure everyone would do whatever he wanted. In my opinion, Zachariah was the real villain of season 5. He ratcheted up the tension and wasn't afraid to play mean and dirty. He was more satanic than Lucifer that was for sure. Of all the characters introduced for this story arc, he sticks out the most in my mind.

zachariah was evil. even though as a character he was great, a brilliant nemesis, i just hated him and i could never vote for a character i hate that much, he is my second most hated character on the show behind ruby.
lucifer could have been awesome and i thought there were times when he was (in the future and raising death) but not enough on the whole
none of the other options really did much for me and if they had it wouldn't really have mattered, i love the trickster!!!

Sorry. Not going in there either. Every character can only be one thing. That's why Gordon can't be in both the human and other categories. I've nixed Vampire Dean and Demon-Possessed Sam in this set too. Whatever the character was for most of its "life" is what it is in these. I got enough flack from people about recurring characters in one-shot polls. However, Jimmy Novak will be in the final polls leading up to Like a Virgin. You can vote for Misha there.

Yes, but if I excluded Gabriel because he would be the winner since Castiel wasn't in it, then I would have to exclude whoever would be the overwhelming winner if Castiel and Gabriel weren't in it and so on. :-P Really, I think people would be happier if I just grabbed a name out of a hat and declared a winner. :-)

ReplyDeleteYa know, I clicked on this poll completely prepared to vote for Anna because she's gorgeous and I love her, and then I saw Gabriel on the list. To this day, in my mind, he exists as the Trickster, which is exactly why I voted for him. I had a long post in mind about the concepts of nobility and honor and the ideal of having a personality but I figure I can sum it up pretty quickly with the following:

ReplyDeleteOkay, so Gabriel is my favorite angel because he is a rather comlex character.
ReplyDeleteHe was interesting as a Trickster. Tall tales: He was a villain, but the way he dealt 'justice', you could sorta see that he hurt ppl who weren't that "innocent" in the first place.
Even as a villain I didn't want him to die.
Mystery Spot was amazing. Dean dying was funny and the end when he told Sam that he was trying to teach him a lesson made him a neutral power in my eyes instead of a villain.
Then GABRIEL!!!! Changing Channels is still one of my favorite epsiodes (if not THE favorite). I never saw the reveal coming, but it was so perfectly fitting. And suddenly Mystery Spot made sense all of a sudden and just wow. Gabriel's speech about destiny was heavy. The way Gabriel looked at Sam, Dean and Cas leaving after Dean's final words to him, I knew he would come around and join the good fight.
And he did. Hammer of the Gods, showed us another layer of the character. Not MOTW, not the runaway angel, but a glimpse of his life as 'Loki'. It was brilliant.
I was depressed for two days after that episode and I want his return more than anything in Supernatural.
He was a complex, layered, interesting character, portrayed by the amazing Richard Speight Jr. And I still think there was still a lot of potential in Gabriel's character.
So I voted for him and I keep wishing that he returns to the show.

ReplyDeletewell, because he killed Dean for six months and forced Sam to live without his brother! what kind of a lesson is that? he pretty much was screwing with Sam for a whole year (who knows how many Tuesdays plus six months after that).
ReplyDeleteTechnically, he wasn't the only one who sided with humans. Anna did also. She even WAS a human once. All she did was to save mankind and stop the Apocalypse. Yes, she wanted to sacrifice Sam and Dean, but she wanted it so the Apocalypse could never happen.
ReplyDeleteActually, I hate what they did to the character in season 5. They screw her up. That sweet girl from I Know What You Did Last Summer or that reasonable angel from On the Head of a Pin, would've never turned on the boys like that.

ReplyDeleteTo be honest,though,it's kind of hard to remember that she truly was trying to stop the Apocalypse when her plan to do so was to kill the entire Winchester family...
Also,I haven't decided yet if I liked where her character went in season 5.She was pretty cool in season 4,but later she actually reminded me of an angel.She was willing to sacrifice someone for the "bigger picture".She was a lot like Cas when he first appeared.I certainly wasn't happy to see her die,but I also wasn't extremely frustrated.
We can't expect all characters to turn out "good".The writers had Cas change sides at the end of season 4 and Gabriel taking humanity's side in season 5.It wasn't that surprising of them to turn someone against the brothers...

It was a lot of fun for him to be playing such similar roles btwn SPN and Lost at the same time and would say very deep things on both shows while at the same time their supposed roles were completely opposite...it was funny...it was like the writers for both shows were messing with the viewers XD

I chose Zachariah in the end. He exuded evil beyond that of the demons. Not exactly what I pictured when they said there were going to be angels on Supernatural. I loathed him with every ounce of my being and that makes him the character that resonates the most for me. Sorry, Gabriel. Besides, his death was the most satisfying moment of season 5, maybe the whole series for me.
