________
-Ratings Breakdown:
CBS led this third January Monday in the overnights, beating second-place Fox by 2.0 rating points. But the positive news for NBC was hefty sampling for the series-premiere of new David E. Kelley legal drama Harry’s Law, with Oscar winner Kathy Bates. Harry’s Law launched with a dominant 7.5 rating/12 share in the overnights at 10 p.m. (one-tenth of a rating point ahead of CBS’ competing Hawaii Five-O), building from the second episode of The Cape (#4: 4.0/ 6, and its first original in the Monday 9 p.m. hour) by a whopping 87 percent. Needless to say, The Cape came crashing down from its ample tune-in on Sunday, January 9. Compared to failed year-ago occupant The Jay Leno Show (3.5/ 6 on Jan. 18, 2010), Harry’s Law improved the time period by 114 percent.
Earlier in the evening on NBC was should-be-axed Chuck at a fourth-place 3.8/ 6 at 8 p.m.
CBS had nothing unusual report with its combination of sitcoms How I Met Your Mother (#1: 7.2/10), Rules of Engagement (#2: 6.4/ 9), Two and a Half Men (#1: 10.1/15) and Mike & Molly (#1: 8.2/12) from 8-10 p.m., and aforementioned Hawaii Five-O, with a second-place 7.4/12 at 10 p.m. As a reminder, upcoming sitcom Mad Love debuts in the 8:30 p.m. half-hour on Feb. 21.
Elsewhere, Fox’s veteran House won the 8 p.m. hour, with a 7.2/11 in the overnights. Next was soon-to-depart Lie to Me at a third-place 4.4/ 6 at 9 p.m., which was a significant 40 percent below the 8:30 p.m. portion of House (7.3/11). Upcoming Fox crime solver The Chicago Code steps into the Monday 9 p.m. hour on February 7.
ABC’s perennial The Bachelor remains a respectable temporary replacement for Dancing with the Stars, with a 6.3/ 9 in the overnights from 8-10 p.m. and the half-hour breakdown as follows:
The Bachelor (ABC)
8:00 p.m.: 6.2/ 9 (#3)
8:30 p.m.: 6.3/ 9 (#3)
9:00 p.m.: 6.4/ 9 (#2)
9:30 p.m.: 6.5/ 9 (#2)
As always, expect The Bachelor to resonate among the young female audience. Next on ABC was a repeat of already renewed Castle at a third-place 3.9/ 6 in the overnights at 10 p.m.
The CW closed the night with repeats of 90210 (#5: 0.7/ 1) and Gossip Girl (#5: 0.5/ 1) from 8-10 p.m.

wow looks like Harry's Law will be a hit will try it out now
ReplyDeleteHelluva lot better than the rest of NBC's crap.
ReplyDeleteIt's A18-48 rating was only a 2.1, with the usual drop off that occurs from a premier episode I wouldn't call it a hit by any means. My guess is it's already on the Bubble.
ReplyDeleteshame most be really old skewing but is there anything on NBC that isn't on the bubble? except 30 rock
ReplyDeleteThe Office is losing Steve Carell, L&O SVU's cast want to leave and the rest of their scripted shows have weak ratings some bubbles gotta make it
NBC are just having a horrible year aren't they?! I think their biggest new hit is Outsourced and with that moving to 10.30 on Thursdays I'm not sure that wont be joining the rest of NBC's shows in the danger zone.
ReplyDeleteYeah I think Harry's Law does skew old coz apparently it pulled in quite a few viewers
ya 11.04 million viewers apparently and only a 2.1 wth?
ReplyDeleteit beat Hawaii 5-0 even in total viewers
ReplyDeleteShould-be-axed Chuck? Care to elaborate? For a "loser" last night they still reached a 2.0 in the 18-49, matching the season high. In that time slot I would doubt that NBC could find better numbers with a new show, especially when they have to replace others. Plus Chuck is a a season away from making syndication, and it does seem to have a loyal fan base, albeit not a large one. If I were a gambler I would wager that they will get renewed, even if it just hasn't been the same show in years.
ReplyDeleteNot sure I would apply the usual logic to a show like this. Boston Legal skewed older too and it had the most influential/rich viewership on ABC of any of their series at the time
ReplyDeleteThe cape dropped a fair amount, but that was to be expected... the 18-49 demo grab was a shock to me- very low for a genre show like that. If it has another 30% drop it does not bode well.
ReplyDeleteHarry's Law premiered a little lower than I expected and if it does not hold much of its audience it will be in some danger too I bet. Although, NBC may want to keep it around to pair it with another show that skews older and try to solidify a demo on that night.
It is silly for a netowrk to cancel a series with a loyal fanbase that is only a season away from syndication, but network executives can be screwy!
ReplyDeleteAnd it's executives at NBC, which are screwier than most. I just don't see it being canceled. The new things that they developed this year just didn't work. If they had maybe I would feel differently
ReplyDeleteRight.. with Chase doing poorly, The Cape and The Event both being expensive to produce and under-performing greatly, and Undercovers already gone... something has to stick around.
ReplyDeleteExactly. Especially with it being in that time slot.
ReplyDeleteHarry's law was able to Improve on Chuck and The Cape.It also tied hawaii Five-o In total viewers.
ReplyDeleteThe only thing I watch on NBC Is The Event.SO untill It comes back at end of february I have no caring how
NBC's ratings are.But besides the premiere on Sunday night The Cpae hasn't done much better than The
Event.
wth .. chuck should be safee??!!
ReplyDeleteI really should stop looking at the ratings info on this website and just stick to spoilers. I love Chuck and every time I look at ratings, it totally bums me out because I'm afraid it will get canceled. I know it's just a tv show and my life will go on, but I'll be really sad if it happens.
ReplyDeleteRatings only tell PART of a series future honestly. So don't worry too much yet. Some series survive with 2 or 3 million viewers a night for 6 or 7 seasons, and others get cancelled while having 9.5 million plus (Boston Legal). So with NBC having a down year (or three) and Chuck having an established fan base unlike some of NBC's new series... I think Chuck has a good chance at another year.
ReplyDeleteWhen you feel that nobody loves Chuck,
ReplyDeleteNobody cares about Chuck,
Everyone is saying crap about Chuck,
and people are jealous of Chucks fanbase
then just ask yourself............
IS CHUCK TOO GOOD?
