Enlightened - Casting News - Mos Def, Luke Wilson & Diane Ladd Joining Cast

Jan 5, 2011

Both Luke Wilson and Diane Ladd as well as actor/rapper Mos Def have joined HBO's upcoming comedy series 'Enlightened'.

The series will star Laura Dern as a self-destructive woman who has a spiritual awakening and decides to live an enlightened life, turning her work and family life upside-down. Mos Def will play her new boss when she returns to work. This will be Mos Def's first full-time series.
Ladd is Laura Dern's real-life mother and she's best cast as, a drum roll please, Amy's mother. This is an example of art imitating life. Of course, since the pair have already done movies and television together (including a dual Academy Award nomination for Rambling Rose) they're probably used to each other by now.
Wilson plays Amy's drug-abusing ex-husband. His last television appearance was a recurring role on That 70's Show. This is a step down from his usual movie roles (such as the under-appreciated Idiocracy). However, this is definitely a step up from his recent AT&T commercials.

  1. Thanks for the link ... I had not heard anything about it before. Sounds somewhat less interesting to me than some of the other new HBO/Showtime series I have heard about but with Mos Def, Diane Lane and Laura Dern it should be worth checking out!

  2. Haven't heard about it either, but then I stumbled across this when looking for some music related info on Mos Def. There are a lot of new cable shows coming up this year and most of them seem somewhat interesting and/or have a great cast. It's going to be hard to decide which shows to watch.

  3. The great thing about TV these days is you are almost limitless as to how many series you can watch! With DVDs, streaming webvids, iTunes, Hulu and the liketorrents, DVRs and onDemand programming you can save shows for later after trying the pilot to see if you find it interesting. Great days in deed!
