Damages - Season 4 plot revealed

6 Jan 2011

Damages returns for it's fourth season this summer on DirecTV and the main case for the season is wrongful-death suit filed against a military contractor over something that happened in a war zone
The show, set to resume production next month, is now casting two season-long guest stars, one a former Navy SEAL who runs the company and is a defendant in the case; the other is a powerful but mysterious character also involved in the crime.

Executive producer Glenn Kessler says DirecTV is "encouraging us to take things even further than we did on FX," and the military plotline gives ruthless lawyer Patty Hewes (Glenn Close) a reason to be more authentically potty-mouthed. "You know she's been waiting to do it; you can see it in her eyes," he says.

The budget will be slightly reduced but is being spread across fewer, longer episodes (10 instead of 13 in previous seasons, and an ad-free hour, up from 43 minutes on FX). "We're not looking to have it picked up and then have it be a minor-league version of the series," says executive producer Todd Kessler.

  1. Sounds interesting, but with Damages they always have so many sub-plots under the main plot that I am sure I still do not know what the season will be about! Regardless, I am happy it is back for another year or two!!

  2. The plot of the next season of Damages (a private US army doing illegal business in a war zone abroad) reminds me of the 7th season of 24. It sounds interesting, indeed, more than the last season (I'm not sure there were actual writers behind season 3).

I'll be watching the fourth season, but I'm not very enthusiastic. The 1st season was perfect, season 2 was quite bad and season 3 was even worse (besides, William Hurt, Marcia Gay Harden, Lily Tomlin, Martin Short and all the other 'big shots' seemed bored on screen). I used to be a big fan of the show but I'm not anymore, the writers have proven to don't know a clue about their story (the FF of the 2nd season is a big joke, Patty's car crash in season 3 too). But less episodes means less useless plotlines/scenes, I guess.

I hope there will be new regular cast members. There's just Glenn Close and Rose Bryne now (and the two actors requested will be guest stars, not on the main cast).

  3. I was with you until you thought Season 3 was worse than Season 2.

I kick in the teeth couldn't be worse than Season 2.

Three was an improvement, IMO. But, saying that, they haven't matched the first season yet.

  4. I am so damn excited for this. I do miss my Patty Hewes.

  5. Well, I guess season 2 can't be THAT bad since Glenn Close won an Emmy for it. o.O

And c'mon, the acting is one of the very best things about Damages. Saying Lily Tomlin looked bored on screen must be some kind of crime or something. Anyways...
