Adam D.Harris' Novel - Prologue Available to Read
9 Jan 2011
SpoilerTV ArticleHey Guys,
I've been working on a novel for quite a while, and thought it would be cool to see what people thought of the story, so I've put the prologue as available to read for you all to have a look at on my blog:
Read Prologue Here
Let me know what you think of it, any thoughts are much appreciated.
Hope you're all having a good new year.
Adam

Nice work Adam! Do I sense a conspiracy is afoot?
ReplyDeleteCan tell you are a screenwriter, the book prologue has a cinematic feeling to it. The words come off the page in an easy rhythm... Sometimes I think some authors get caught up in being overly descriptive and the writing loses a lot of its "readablity". With the prologue I got the picture without having all too often irrelevant factoids to distract me - the brand of the barbecue, buns or his jeans that he pulled the gun out of... the color of the houses etc. Sometimes too many details in one "scene" makes me lose the cadence of the story. I did wonder what make of gun he pulled out (you can tell a lot about a person by the gun they use), but much of the detail and layers of the story I assume come out in the upcoming chapters.
It would be interesting to read the book and get a feeling for your style a bit more. Sometimes I think prologues are just stage setters for the real mood of a book and not the mood itself. If that makes any sense to you.
Thanks for the Feedback.
ReplyDeleteA few people who read the early parts said that bits could be stretched out, but what I've posted is virtually the original words that I wrote; once I've written the final word then I'll go back and add, delete, flip, etc etc. It's still early stages in terms of editing, but the whole thing is coming along nicely as a story. :)
I tried to style my writing a bit differently as well, for example there's a whole chapter told from the perspective of someone you're not sure who it is. :P It may be changed, but atm I quite like it!
Well the nice thing about being concise is you can add more to it easily if you feel the need to, or editor demands it. Cutting bits out of a story can be like amputating a limb sometimes!
ReplyDelete*claps* This is really good, for a minute I thought i was reading a Jack Higgins book!
ReplyDeleteI'm gonna go read it again!
Thanks very much. Glad you liked it :)
ReplyDeleteThat was awesome :). I have no idea what's going to happen and I like it like that lol.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, I'm really impressed. I read your reviews often (Fringe specifically) and you do certainly have a way with writing, but I had no idea that said way extended into fiction. Congrats!
Thanks muchly my friend! :)
ReplyDeleteI've written a screenplay too. I did a screen-writing course in New York last September-December, and so I'm juggling the screenplay, novel, SpoilerTV stuff and trying to aim my career somewhere atm. haha.
Glad you like the stuff though. When more news on the novel comes, I'll be sure to let you know!
