Friday night lights over LOST? Give me a break!
ReplyDeleteD: < Why isn't Supernatural on there? -huffs-
ReplyDeleteSupernatural does not deserved this. That`s why, shitty shows dont get real tv-awards.
ReplyDeleteHope this isn't just another award ceremony in which Mad Men and Breaking Bad take awards away from LOST.
ReplyDeleteBecause there's no category for Most Awesome TV Show Ever :)
ReplyDeleteCommuniy deserved a nomination. Especially over the Office (which I do love). The majority of the 2010 year was office season 6 which was terrible and season 7 hasn't been good enough to justify a nomination over Community. As well, Glee in 2010 has not been very good. 2009 was phenomenal but 2010 has been weak. Oh well, when LOST didn't even get a best series nomination, how could I expect Community to get one?
ReplyDeleteI hope THE END wins. LOST has been pretty well shunned at the award shows this year. Its gotten to the point that it seems professional jealousy has taken over.
ReplyDeleteNever watched or followed the writer's guild awards, but nice to see some early nomination season nominee lists. No surprise to me that every best drama nominee is on cable. Pretty sad. When are the networks going to take the hint?
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure it's even jealousy as much as it may be 'out of sight, out of mind'. Lost seems like it ended a very long time ago and should not be part of this year's awards shows to me... and I love LOST and loved the final season AND the finale!
ReplyDeleteThe Big Bang Theory AND How I met Your Mother both deserve nominations over 30 Rock, Nurse Jackie and The Office in my mind. Personally I have liked much of Glee this year and thinks it has been as good or better than the second half of last season.
ReplyDeleteIt seems like the Writer's Guild loves sitcoms that have no laugh track and are a little biased....
ReplyDeleteI don't watch the big bang theory so I can't comment. However, How I met your mother doesn't deserve to be nominated. I love How I met your mother and stop whatever I'm doing to watch it every monday at 8. However, since 2010 includes the second half of last season, it doesn't deserve to be nominated. Last season was bad. I've loved this season very much, but last season was so bad that for the year of 2010, it was not a top 5 best written comedy show. Neither was Glee. Like I said, Glee in 2009 was brilliantly written, but not 2010. The show lost it's heart and the segways into songs have become unnatural (even for a musical).
ReplyDeleteWe both agree the Office shouldn't be nominated (its top 10 but not top 5). However 30 Rock does. Its still very funny. Every show has an off episode here or there, but 30 Rock never did in its early years. That's why it won so many awards. Now it does, so its just like every other show. It has declined in quality, but now, rather than be miles ahead of the pack (the pack being every other comedy on TV these days), its now in the pack, so its still deserves to be nominated, even though its not as good as it used to, because its decline in quality now equates 30 rock with the best sitcoms of today.
If it were up to me it would be Community, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, Modern Family, and Better Off Ted. But that's just my opinion. The reason strongly feel community should be nominated is because of its creativity this past year. Its had Chicken Finger Mafia, Paintball War, Space Launch, and Zombies set to ABBA, all while having the best love triangle on TV today in Jeff-Bitta-Annie. You have your opinion, but I respectfully disagree. I hope not to start an argument with you (as often happens in comment sections) because I can tell you are knowledgable as TBBT and HIMYM are also very good shows, but I just feel like they weren't the Top 5 best written comedies of 2010. Top 10, but not top 5. Sorry for the long comment, but I often get carried away. Feel free to reply as I love discussing TV.
I'm happy Lost got a nomination for The End. But I can't believe Dexter got a nomination over Lost for the series awards. The only good thing about Dexter is Michael C. Hall's performance (which is excellent), the writing for all of the other characters is poor at best. I haven't seen Boardwalk Empires yet, but Mad Men, Breaking Bad, and Friday Night Lights are all deserving of their nominations IMO.
ReplyDeleteWhile I have LOVED this year of Dexter, I think it still has that critic's darling label attached to it and gets votes based on the more traditional or conservative guild members wanting to seem current. That said I am hard pressed to name 5 drama series that are better than Dexter. Boardwalk Empire, Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Walking Dead, Friday night Lights, True Blood... and Lost (although it seems more than a year ago to me) would all be good nominees, but which is head and shoulders above Dexter? Sometimes it is hard to narrow it down to just 5 and equally deserving nominees get left off the list.
ReplyDeleteAt the Emmys or Golden Globes for best overall drama series I don't think there are five series head and shoulder's above Dexter. But as far as just writing goes, I think Dexter lacks subtlety and relies on the voice over narration as a clutch too often. I think for writing, Lost (and the other nominees) are head and shoulders above Dexter, and I would add Son's of Anarchy as well. Again I think Dexter has several strong points, that make it a very good show overall, I just don't think writing is one of them. So I am surprised it is being recognized at the WGA awards.
ReplyDeleteWell, guys, as a non-Lost fan, I must say that I really don't think the finale deserves the award. Not because it was bad, but because all the other nominees are better than it. Both Breaking Bad eps and also TGW's, House's and Mad Men's deserve it more. Maybe there's some room for discusion about House, but if you watch any of the other shows you'll get what I mean.
ReplyDeleteI am ashamed I left of SoA! I can't disagree with you as far as actual writing goes. I just think sometimes people are swayed by what they have heard is "so good" or "the best on TV" and are influenced by it.... Hence the nod to Dexter for writing. I would guess there are a number of guild members that had issues with Lost's final season just like the public. Maybe less since writers tend to understand the nuance and subtlety that lost had most of the time without getting confused and asking RIDICULOUS questions. "Where they really on the island?" or "So they were all dead for the entire series right?" or half the completely meaningless questions that "never got answered" according to the Finale haters. Wow, I still have venom for those people I guess after so long. Good for me! LOL
ReplyDeleteI watch all the other shows nominated, but I don't see any reason why not give the award to LOST, especially considering how they nominated episodes that are very far from being the best of last season of both Mad Men (The Suitcase should be there) and Breaking Bad (Half Measures or One Minute).
ReplyDeleteEven considering those though, The End's script is just too amazing.
Mad Men, Breaking Bad and Boardwalk Empire are just fine, but Dexter and FNL over LOST and In Treatment? Come on, what's up with those judges...
ReplyDeleteAlso, Community should definitely be there among the Comedies.
