How many new characters will there be?? I just really hope they will concentrate on one big story line and don't handle too many mini story lines like in season 3. It's a great thing that they seem to try to come close to the books (never read them, but I suppose that's why they did season 3 the way they did), but in a TV show things simply work differently, you can never keep up with the level of detailedness and just have to drop some things in order to keep viewers hooked. The finale of season 3 felt like a mid-term finale to me.
ReplyDeleteThis makes me concerned about the future of the show. Season 3 was already loaded with pointless storylines and guest stars, the casting calls for season 4 make it looks like it's going to be even worse. Plus Jesus, Tommy and Russell will be back already. And all the 3 of them are annoying as hell IMO. Season 3 was my least favorite and the show could really go downhill from now on, sigh.
ReplyDeleteActually they use the books as a loose outline for the show and an outline for Sookie plots, but they create A LOT of other plots and characters. In the books everything is from Sookie's perspective and all characters other than Bill and Eric are in the periphery. Jason had only one plot about him in 10 books, Tara was a store keeper that basically came into play only when Sookie bought clothing, Lafayette is a TV creation completely.
ReplyDeleteI wish they would cut back the secondary character subplots too since the show is a better, tighter, creation when it is more about Sookie and her exploits than the entire town of Bon Temps.
Well they need a number of new characters since each season tends to be about a different sect of the paranormal community. Werewolves in book 3... Witches in book 4 and so on. The odd thing is that the characters you (and I) find annoying are show creations and not even in the books. Each season as long as the show runs they will add new characters, because the entire premise of the show is that Sookie will go somewhere and solve some mystery (the books are The Southern Vampire Mysteries after all)... and each new location or group in the community will need new characters.
ReplyDeletePersonally I thought season 2 was the weakest and most silly and the show found its footing again in season 3, despite the annoying cast additions.
I don't know anything about the books, but I actually like the non-Sookie parts the most. I like Jessica, Sam, Lafayette, Jason, and season one Tara. I find Bill and Eric's backstories more interesting than any of their interactions with Sookie.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds to me like the people complaining are the ones who read the books. I didn't read them and I like the show just fine. I bought the first 2 seasons after watching the season 2 finale as the first episode I ever saw of it. I am usually the first to complain about vampire stuff, but I really enjoy the show.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the show too. It's one of my 2 or 3 favorite series. I agree though that fans of the books want more Eric since he is more prominent than Bill after book 3. Lafayette and Jessica are two of my favorite characters on the show too. I still think they can cut back on some of the plots to make 1 central story and maybe 2 or 3 alternate plots instead of the 5 or 6 or more last year.
ReplyDeleteI've lost count of the new characters for S4
ReplyDeleteSo, i assume this season might be like the book, dead and gone, i hope Eric looses his memory, Cause in the book, He and Sookie have sex! but the only down side is that he dosen't remember, and she won't tell him, and what about Alcide? cause in the book, He's like, Sookie, i love you for a while, but she dosen't do anything, will there be a quinn, i hope not, he gets in the way, I recently read dead in the family, and i was glad to find out that she hasn't gone back with Bill. she's still with Eric,
