Supernatural - Weekly Question #3 - Nominating Phase

20 Dec 2010

The votes are in for Best Death and the winners are.....

Best Visceral Death - Ruby in Lucifer Rising (209 votes) and then Zachariah in Point of No Return (177 votes)

Best Emotional Death - Sam in All Hell Breaks Loose (266 votes) and Ellen and Jo in Abandon All Hope in second (253 votes)

Best Gory Death - Dean in No Rest for the Wicked (252 votes) and the couple eating each other in My Bloody Valentine (220 votes)

We had over 900 votes in the last poll, which is pretty amazing for being about only one show. Let's keep it up and maybe the hiatus won't be so bad.

This week's topic: Best One-Shot PiP (Person in Peril)

This one is harder than I thought.  Many of my favorite characters have been in more than one episode, which automatically keeps them out of the running in this race.  So long, Ronald Resnick, adios Gabriel/Trickster, sayonara Lisa and Ben.  We are looking for characters that have only been in one episode and who did not end up being evil.  Some seasons lend themselves to this; others are a bit harder.  I didn't include season 6 because we are only half way through the season.  I figure we can do season 6 over the even longer summer-hellatus.

Who are your favorite one-shot characters?  Which characters stuck with you long after their one episode was over?
Nominate your favorites and discuss below.  We will start voting on Wednesday (mid-USA time).

  1. For me season 1 is easiest this week because there were so many good characters we've never seen since. Season 3 is the hardest because it was so short. Here's my choices:

Season 1 - Sarah Blake (Providence)
    Season 2 - Lenore (Bloodlust)

Season 3 - In all honesty, it is Casey from Sin City, but I'm not sure she counts being she was a demon. My next one would be Nancy Fitzgerald from Jus in Bello.

Season 4 - Jamie (Monster Movie)
Season 5 - Dr. Cartwright (Sam, Interrupted) and Pastor David Gideon (99 Problems)

    What do you think?

  2. Good list except that Dr Cartwright was never in peril... Heck, she wasn't even real... unless she was real until the last scene when she wasn't :-)

    Season 1 - Layla (Faith)
    Season 2 - Sarge (Croatoan)
Season 3 - I just loved Casey and there was a human in there, it just wasn't her that we got to know... but I liked Nancy too.
Season 4 - Jay (Criss Angel is a DBag)
Season 5 - Lindsey (Free to be You and Me) -- I was surprised how much I liked her because she came across annoying to me at first. But when they finally had dinner together, I decided I liked her a lot... A monster may not have been after her, but those hunters did place her in Peril.
Season 6 - Marcy Ward (Weekend at Bobby's) -- She was so cute when she was trying to get Bobby's attention.

  3. Season 1 - Layla (Faith) I've always kind of wanted her to randomly just pop up to go "Hey, my tumor miraculously healed". Close second is Andrea (Dead In The Water)

Season 2 - I think Madison (Heart) counts being that she had no idea what she was doing so I'll go with her. I would have gone with Ava but ... well obviously I can't. xD

Season 3 - I'll also go with Nancy (Jus In Bello) although if I could, I'd say The Ghostfacers but that's 5 people.

Season 4 - Audrey (Wishful Thinking) and 2nd, Cole (Death Takes A Holiday)

Season 5 - Joshua (Dark Side Of The Moon) was never really in peril so I'll go with Lindsey (Free To Be You And Me)

  4. Season 1: Michael (Something Wicked)
Season 2: Detective Diana Ballard (The Usual Suspects)
Season 3: Nancy Fitzgerald (Jus in Bello)
    Season 4: Jamie (Monster Movie)
Season 5: Jesse (I Believe the Children are our Future)

  5. Well you just pinched all of mine - have you been reading my mind? ;P
So I chose some others for variety:
S1 - Michael Sorenson - the boy they saved from the shtriga in Something Wicked
S2 - Tyler Thompson - the little girl Sam saved from drowning in Playthings
S3 - Since I can't choose Ben, I choose all the kids they got out of the cages in The Kids Are Alright
S4 - Danny Carter from Family Remains
S5 - Demian and Barnes from The Real Ghostbusters

  6. I thought Dr Cartwright was real. Once the poison from the wraith kicked in she was a hallucination. That's how I interpreted it anyway........

  7. Ooh, good question! Let's see...

For Season 1, I really liked Lucas and his mom Andrea in 'Dead in the Water'. Also, Sarah from 'Provenance' was pretty awesome. :)

Season 2; I liked Det. Diana Ballard in 'The Usual Suspects', she was an interesting PiP, kind of different from the ones they normally do. I also *love* Molly (the ghost) from Roadkill, also a very original PiP.

Season 3; Bit short on PiPs from here on out, as they really started getting into the mytharc, however, I really liked Nancy Fitzgerald, the secretary from 'Jus in Bello'.

Season 4; I quite liked Jamie, the waitress from 'Monster Movie'. I also liked Ian from 'It's a Terrible Life', I was disappointed when he died! Also, Claire Novak from 'The Rapture'.

Season 5; I like the bartender (can't remember her name) that Sam protects in 'Free to Be You and Me'. Also, Damien and Barnes (fake Sam and Dean) from 'The Real Ghostbusters' and Gary from 'Swap Meat' (even if he did put himself in danger).

Wow...so many awesome characters! Can't wait to read people's nominations for this one, I'm sure there's loads that I've missed. :)

  8. Season 1: Layla (Faith) My heart broke for her and Dean.
Season 2: Tiny (Folsom Prison Blues) Surprised noone else has picked Tiny *shrugs*
Season 3: Nancy Fitzgerald (Jus in Bello ) Why the have to kill the virgin sheesh.
Season 4: Giant Teddy bear (Wishful Thinking) Does that count? It was in peril even if it was from Sam and Dean and itself. I don't really believe it was "evil" it was just a bi-polar depressed Teddy. If not then....
    Claire Novak (The Rapture)
Season 5: Jesse ( I believe the children are our future) It still bugs me that this loose end was never tied up.

  9. I have only one I can think of right now: Missouri from 'Home', Season 1

    ReplyDelete
  10. Does the sheriff from that zombie episode count? I liked her and i sympathized. Wasnt her son gonna attack her?

    ReplyDelete
  11. first off, really enjoyed last weeks set of questions and polls. i love how all the top two were so close with each other. they were all brilliant choices and were always the 2 i struggled to choose between. however, each of my votes came second. wonder what that says.

anyhoo, onwards with the new question!
    this is hard.
had to think about it for a while.

    layla from faith
jessie from i believe the children are our future
    sarah from provenance

thats all i can think of right now, the second i think of a good one i remember a second episode he/she has been in!

  12. Jamie! In Monster Movie (?) . She was in peril and helped saved herself!
Plus she took Dean's virginity! LOL

  13. Season 1 - Michael (Something Wicked) I loved how he was like a mini Dean Winchester :P
    Season 2 - Lenore (Bloodlust)
Season 3 - Nancy Fitzgerald (Jus In Bello). I actually prefer Casey but I think being a demon counts as being evil :P
Season 4 - Young Mary Winchester (In The Beginning). Does this count? I don't have anyone else besides her :/
Season 5 - Lindsey (Free To Be You And Me)

    ReplyDelete
  14. I don't think I have a favorite from each season.. but there are some I just never forget..
Season 1 - Sarah Blake (Providence)
Season 5 - Lindsey (Free to Be You and Me) She wasn't exactly my favorite, I've just been really curious about what happened to her after she "found out" about Sam.. I wanted to see her reaction, but then they decided to jump over that part, and just go to the bedroom where Sam was with Jessica (aka Lucifer)

  15. SARAH BLAKE! And I wish she wasnt a one shot caracter lol, I STILL HAVE HOPE hahaha.
The sick girl from the episode faith... *googling...* Layla Rourke

    ReplyDelete
  16. LOL me too (about Layla). I watched it this week and thought it would be nice if they met just to let us know she is alright lol. The boys do travel a lot its... possible...

    ReplyDelete
  17. I agree with Sarah. I wish they'd bring her back for Sam. Dean was right, you know. She'd make a great wife for Sam.

    ReplyDelete
  18. In Season 1 I would have to pick Layla from Faith and Lucas from Dead in the Water
In Season 2 Tyler the little girl from Something Wicked
In Season 3, Nancy from Jus in Bello
In Season 4, Jamie from Monster Movie
In Season 5, Damian and Barnes from The Real Ghostbusters.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I know! I hope they remember her (the writers). it would make me feel better if they chose not to bring her back then just forgot about her LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  20. OMG, how could I have forgotten poor giant Tiny!

    ReplyDelete
  21. Jesse has always been a point of irritation for me as well. To introduce a character that powerful and then go nowhere with it...it seemed a bit odd to me.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Unfortunately she doesn't count as she has subsequently appeared in other episodes, but I agree, she was a pretty great character.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Ooh, I had forgotten Kathleen from 'The Benders'. She was an excellent character, sympathetic without being pitiable.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yeah I love Sheriff Jodie - 'Ok fellas, put the rulers away. Zip up ' - she sure knows how to put the men in their place ;P

    ReplyDelete
  25. PiPs were really thin on the ground in S5, mostly it was Sam and Dean in peril (my poor boys)

    ReplyDelete
  26. Well...
In the first season I love Sarah from the episode "Provenance".
In the second season I like Molly from "Roadkill".
In the third season I don't have any one-shot characters. I love Lauren Cohan as Bela, but she's not from one-shot, so...
In the season four I really like many one-shot characters. The Shapeshifter from "Monster Movie" fan of horror movies is really funny. I love the suicidal Teddy Bear from "Wishful Thinking", the Siren from "Sex And Violence", Jimmy - interpreted by Misha Collins - from "The Rapure" is amazing!
In season five I like many characters too. Dean from the future in the episode "The End". Jesse, the lovely little boy from "I Believe The Children Are Our Future". The old Dean from "The Curious Case Of Dean Winchester", OMG I laughed so hard with this! I like Joshua from "The Dark Side Of The Moon" too.
    I think it's all.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think they made him too powerful, then couldn't make the character work. He could have ended the whole apocalypse scenario with just a thought and wiped out the need for the rest of the season .......then what would we have done ;P

    ReplyDelete
  28. I agree, but it still irritates me that they got rid of him the way they did: I find it unlikely that someone who knows they are that powerful would just disappear into obscurity.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Sarah - Provenance
    Cassie - Route 666
    Nancy - Jus in Bello
    Layla - Faith
    Pastor Jim
    Caleb

    ReplyDelete
  30. I feel the same way about season 3. It's hard to choose someone since almost everyone came back in another episode. I was about to pick people with only a couple of lines since Casey is technically evil.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Does Madison from "Heart" count? She technically wasn't evil...

    ReplyDelete
  32. I had a couple favorites over the years.

In Season One, I loved the woman played by Julie Benz in Faith... she was excellent. I also loved the woman played by Amy Acker and the boy in Dead in the Water.

Lenore, the vampire played by Amber Benson in Bloodlust, in season two, was awesome.

Finally, the little boy in I Believe the Children are our Future that was the Antichrist was good too and he left me wanting more.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I forgot about Danny Carter... he was great!

    ReplyDelete
  34. I'm pretty Dr. Cartwright she was in Dean's head all along since the wraith touched him during his physical right when they were admitted. So he was under it's spell from the get-go.

Mine have all been mentioned already, but that's what I get for coming late to the party, huh? :) Although I did like the two teenagers in Asylum -- Kat and Gavin. I liked that she knew her way around a shotgun and he was a complete doofus. The only other ones I can add are Emily, the girl tied up with Dean in Scarecrow, Evan Hudson from season 2 Crossroads Blues, and Gary from season 4 Swap Meat. I don't consider him evil, just misguided.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Definitely Sara from Provenence. She has definitely stuck with me for all the seasons. Wish she was back.
Cassie in Route 666 was just an awesome character for Dean to contend with.
100% the anti-christ kid. I mean come on. You bring something that big into the story for one epi. Really??
I think that is it for me. I will do some research with my box sets to see if anything else comes to mind :)

    ReplyDelete
  36. I must say I just love the SPN kids
as Ben obviously doesn't count, here they are:
Lucas from Dead in the Water
    Michael from Something Wicked
Jesse from We Believe The Children Are Our Future
    also liked Claire, Jimmy's daughter
and I loved the first girl, who portayed Lilith, but she probably doesn't count as she was evil and I'm not sure if she was in just one episode or more.

Of the adults, that would be Nancy from Jus in Bello, Sarah from Provenavce and Kali from Hammer of the Gods.

    ReplyDelete
  37. I love the SPN kids too - they're all great actors and they have to do such weird things on the show.....
And both the boys (but especially Dean) have great empathy for kids.....I love seeing that

    ReplyDelete
  38. I really liked Demian and Barnes - they gave the boys some very timely insight into the brother relationship and how lucky they were - 'To wake up every morning and save the world. To have a brother who would die for you. Who wouldn't want that?'

    ReplyDelete
  39. 'I've been re-hymenated'

    ReplyDelete
  40. Andrea in 'Dead in the Water' (S01E03)
    Charlie in 'Bloody Mary' (S01E05)
Mara Daniels in 'Folsom prison blues' (S02E19)
Jessie in 'I believe the children are our future' (S05E06)
Other than those, and some that already have been nominated, I'm not good at remembering these one episode good guys, I'm to much in love with all the bad guys...

    ReplyDelete
  41. I would put her in the best one-shot monster-of-the-week category instead of person in peril. She was the one putting others in peril even if she didn't mean to.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Glad to hear it because that's coming up next.

    ReplyDelete
  43. What? Being in love with bad guys?........

    ReplyDelete
  44. Lol. I should definitely be more specific. Be in love with bad guys any time you want. :-P We vote on bad guys next week.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Sorry Dahne - I'm bored.....and bored = trouble ;P
Looking forward to the next poll already :)

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'm bored too. School's out for Christmas and I purposely made no plans for tonight. I'm torn between watching Chuck (rented it since everyone talks about it here), finishing my recap of A Very SPN Christmas, or starting a recap of White Collar or Burn Notice. Pretty much, I'm just fussing around avoiding all the holiday stuff I still need to get done. Can't decide if Procrastination is my favorite way of dealing with stuff or if it is a demon inhabiting me. I think it may be 8th demon arriving 3 years late to the Magnificent 7's party.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Lol. Yeah I'd be inclined to believe it's demons - nasty little buggers, every last one of 'em. ;P

    ReplyDelete
  48. Darn. I'm really not into gargling salt water and I'm fresh out of holy water. I'm sure my family will be fine when I start drawing devil's traps on the ceilings and floor though...right?

If you don't hear from me, they've committed me.

    ReplyDelete
  49. You'll be ok as long as they lock you Bobby's panic room - some featheryassedprettyboy angel might come and let you out when no one's looking.
And if they don't, well there's worse places........and Bobby might share his ginger peach cobbler.......if it hasn't gone mouldy by now.......

    ReplyDelete
  50. :-) Not sure I can handle the excitement of Bobby's place and I have an unreasonable fear of wood chippers lately. But, I am a librarian so maybe they can shove some musty old books at me while I'm avoiding the moldy old pie.
