Best One-Shot Antagonist or Monster (Season 5)
Happy New Year to all of you. I hope it is full of peace and happiness and, of course, good TV. We have almost finished this week's question on best antagonist or monster and while some were runaway victories, a couple have been extremely close. Season 5, thanks to Hammer of the Gods, has the most choices so it should be interesting. I did take Cupid out of the running here and will put him in the angels poll instead. I felt he didn't fit as an antagonist since the brothers weren't hunting him and he had nothing to do with the deaths.
I'm posting the season 5 poll a bit early because I am going to close it at 7:00 pm Sunday (mid-USA time). I've enjoyed my break but work calls on Monday and I want to post the results on Monday when we start nominating for the next weekly question. Speaking of which, we are doing favorite episode next week. However, instead of nominating by season, we are going to be nominating as a whole. After all, some people enjoy certain seasons more than others. This will make the nominations truly people's favorites. Probably the hardest thing about next week will be picking your top 12 episodes of all time (well in seasons 1-5). Something to think of while you're nursing that new year's hangover.
As always, comments are the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.
My blog

Have to go with Brady. HE KILLED JESS!!!! And has been playing with Sam for a while. Definitely would have to choose him. Great episode and Crowley was just too cool with the hellhound :) And watching Dean have trust in his brother was a great break from the norm. Happy New Year!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOk I'm not voting for any of the gods - they were all pretty useless against Luci.
ReplyDeleteRoy and Walt don't count either - they snuck up on the boys while they were asleep, otherwise they would never have got close enough to shoot them. I would just love for Sam and Dean to track those dicks down...
Jesse doesn't do it for me either...
I just couldn't take Paris Hilton seriously as Leshii - sorry but the only thing I liked about her was the decapitation .....that was funny!
Ok that narrows it down.....
Famine and Brady both worthy winners here, with Patrick and War as very close runners up.
ReplyDeleteFamine was by far the creepiest and most menacing of the Horsemen-loved how Sam overcame his hunger for the blood and said no to the all he could eat demon blood buffet in the end and took him down.
Brady killed Jess that's enough to make him one of the most evil beings the show has ever had-I am so glad Sam was able to put his anger and need for revenge aside so they could get the lintel they needed from that bastard. His quick death in the end was nothing but a mercy killing and more than he deserved.
I loved sexy Irish Patrick he wasn't evil, he was sometimes a nice guy, he literally gave Sam the Clap and he made Dean into a grumpy old man. His poker game with Sam was intense ans one of my favourite scenes of season 5. It was awesome when Sam beat him at his own game especially when Dean and Bobby couldn't and didn't believe Sam could do it and I ended up feeling sorry for the man witch in the end when he had to watch his love grow old and die right in front of him because she didn't want to live forever any more.
War? Well he was just war. Awesome, truthful and he had a hot car.
I just had to go with Famine.. he was.. it was so disgusting.
ReplyDeleteI've decided I'm gonna vote for Brady although I'll probably change my mind 2 seconds after I click vote...
ReplyDeleteOn one level I guess we all knew that Sam's whole life had been influenced by the YED, but to have it finally revealed that all those people he thought he knew were actually part of that was kinda gobsmacking..... for me anyway...
and Brady was so smug - taunting Sam like that - hell I wanted to rip his head off..............
Brady is definitely one of those on the list of 'I cheered when they bought it' along with Ruby, Zach and Alastair (but not Crowley - I still can't believe they actually killed him:( ...... I vote we start a bring back Crowley petition)
and Sam got to be the one to do it..... awesome.
The only god that stood out to me was Kali. Roy and Walt were in the episode for maybe 3 minutes and apparently they aren't the only ones who've killed Dean and Sam so for me they are obsolete. Jesse was the second biggest mistake of season 5 behind the non-apocalyptic Apocalypse. War's role in his episode was vastly superior to Famine's. Besides, he's pretty cool. War is second only to Death in my favorite horsemen.
ReplyDeleteFamine was creepy as hell, but I voted for Leshi. I just loved that they chose the monster to be Paris Hilton when Sam killed her
ReplyDeleteToo bad Death was in more than one episode because his first true appearance was epic... slow motion "Oh Death"... wow. I was so excited for the episode.... Oh well, out of the choices I am having a hard time deciding... Famine, War, or Brady. Brady is the one that I cheered for when he died... S.O.B.! But War and Famine were really good too... Heck Pestilence totally grossed me out... but I guess we saw him at the end of one episode and the beginning of the next... So no go for him... Maybe I'll be able to decide tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteIn all honesty, I thought having a person who embodies what is wrong with this country give a lecture on what is wrong with this country (as if to poke at everyone who idolizes her) was outstanding. The decapitation was icing on the cake.
ReplyDeleteIt was pretty cool writing - I get what you're saying, but she just gives me the creeps - and not in a warm fuzzy SPN way ;P
ReplyDeleteDefinitely PATRICK ! He was awesome !
ReplyDeleteI went into the episode prepared to hate it, because I couldn't believe even Kripke could make me care about Paris Hilton. He didn't; decapitating her was much, much better. But still Fallen Idols ended up being one of my favorites from that season because of the Paris Hilton fame speech (so true). Well, that and Killer Ghandi. I almost nominated him for this contest because he makes me laugh so much. I put him up with suicidal teddies in the bizarre but awesome category.
ReplyDeletePatrickthe accent did it for me! :D
ReplyDeleteConsidering just how boring this season was, I have to go with either one of the pagan gods(the most interesting part of the show and even then Emocifer wasted them in five seconds...). Would have gone with Kali because she was interesting character, but then again her hysteria is a big turn off. Baldur on other hand, if he was developed properly, could have been a major villain(and way better one than emocifer)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Famine. It had to be the most grotesque episode I've ever seen on Supernatural. Gagging is not what I usually do when I watch the show. Awesome episode, but there were several I could have gone with easily.
ReplyDeleteFor me it was down to War, Famine and Kali, but in the end, I had to go with Famine. He was creepy. I really loved War, especially his way of making people kill each other, but hey, Famine was the reason why that couple ate each other (one of the best gory deaths in the show, which we all agreed on) AND he was the reason for Cas's burger love (gotta love the red meat crazy Cas). He also brought in more drama in making Sam hungry for demon blood.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, cannot wait for the favourite episode poll!!! But I'm really gonna have to sit and think about it for a while. 12 episodes you say? Definitely hard to pick...
Without a doubt, Leshii.
ReplyDeleteIt was sooooo awesome to see Paris Hilton get her head chopped off.
But... as much as I hate to say this, she did a pretty good job of acting like a monster...
Famine is definitely one of the most disgusting characters/monsters that I've seen on a tv show.
ReplyDeleteThe twist with the ghost boys were the best part of The Real Ghostbusters, but I hate meta so that isn't saying much. The wraith in Sam, Interrupted was clever and unique so bonus points there, but it wasn't as memorable as some of the others. Leah Gideon was definitely memorable. She convinced regular people to kill children and not by demon possession or witchcraft. She could be the most evil of them all in season 5. Definitely a more evil, more entertaining big bad than Lucifer turned out to be. Kali was also a strong antagonist. She gets bonus points for Gabriel wanting to save her. I know I wanted to save Gabriel.
ReplyDeleteI'm so frustrated. My damn hubby got on my computer and was playing around on here and checking out the polls and he voted on my computer...he voted War and I wanted to vote Brady. Oh well. Anyway, if I could vote, I'd totally vote Brady. After thinking about it, truthfully I'd say him. I mean he pretended to be Sam's friend from the middle of their sophomore year on up, hooked Sam up with Jessica only to turn around and kill her and Sam never knew. After all this time Sam thought he'd gotten his revenge for Jessica's death and he hadn't, only to find out it was his best friend possessed who killed his girl. We know from ep 3 that after all this time, Sam is still in love with Jessica and misses her so much. It really has to hurt knowing your best friend was the one who killed the woman you were going to marry. That story just kinda broke my heart for Sam. So, I choose Brady, but I can't vote for him because of stupid hubby. *smacks him* GO VOTE ON YOUR COMPUTER! D=<
ReplyDeletePffft, are you kidding me? More than he deserved? Brady deserved so much more than just having a knife shoved in his gut. I really wish Sam could've killed that SoB in the most terrible, horrible, brutal way possible. I wish he could've cut him up and burnt him alive just so he'd see what it would've been like when Jessica died, what Jessica suffered through. Ugh...
ReplyDeleteBrady...Famine...Brady...Famine?
ReplyDeleteIn the end I voted for Brady. He was not the scarriest antagonist but I found hin crucial for the story because it showed for how long YED tried to control Sam. The end scene between Brady and Sam unsettled me. The way Sam killed Brady seemed cold blooded and for the first (and only time) I feared that Sam would go dark side (I mean really dark side, like Darth Vader dark side).
FAMINE! I loved him so much, the ep was awesome :DDD
ReplyDeleteI think you are arguing her point. She's saying that he deserved much worse than Sam gave him.
ReplyDeleteVoted for Patrick - sexy accent + evil = good!
ReplyDeleteWas not sure where to post this so thinking this is an ongoing vote and discussion....why not here? I am sorry that it does not have anything to do with the poll, but I found out something interesting. Did ya'll know that all of the guys can sing: Jensen, Jared, Misha. I was wondering (and maybe a person here can start a dicsussion thread for it) 1) if SPN could come out with a CD with the gang singing their favorite songs? I would sooo buy it :) 2) If it would be tooo cheesey to wish SPN would do a musical epi like Buffy did, but better. It would be possible b/c they have met soo many different demons, monsters, witches, etc... But I don't know if it would fit into the SPN universe??? What do you guys think?? I have heard Jensen sing....he has a beautiful voice.
ReplyDeleteSorry...it was a misread. =/
ReplyDeleteI love the idea, but Jensen Ackles already said that he purposely made his voice sound bad when he sings on the show because he didn't feel that Dean would be a good singer. Given the track record of Can't Fight This Feeling and the painful version they did of Silent Night, I'm not sure I could do a whole episode of Jensen Ackles channeling Dean's signing voice. :-)
ReplyDeleteNow an episode of Jensen Ackles singing would be another story. He does a good job of singing back up vocals in the Steve Carlson Band. If you like that band, you should try Christian Kane too. He's another of Jensen's buddies who acts (Leverage) and has his own band.
Oh please not a musical episode......I love that the guys can sing, really I do....but....just....no.....
ReplyDelete*shudders violently*
A kind of 'Glee with monsters' is running around in my head now......someone make it stop......
alot of good choices but i had to go with war, he was just so awesome!!
ReplyDeleteIt's better than remembering Sarah Michelle Gellar croak out "heaven" a few thousand times or anything by Alyson Hannigan. I applaud their gumption, but some of that episode was just painful. However, the bunny song by Emma Caulfield was worth every second of the others. It was downright hilarious. And in my opinion she, Amber Benson, and Anthony Stewart Head stole the show.
ReplyDelete(Anya) Bunnies aren't just cute like everybody supposes,
They've got them hoppy legs and twitchy little noses.
And what's with all the carrots-?
What do they need such good eyesight for anywa - y?
Bunnies, bunnies it must be bunnies!
- pause -
...or maybe midgets...
Trust me. It's much funnier as a song. YouTube it. It's called "I've Got a Theory".
Me too but it was a toss-up between him and Patrick for me. War won out because for once the Apocalypse felt epic.
ReplyDeleteok, now I thought was would be hilarious, in that episode where Sam and Dean wake up as characters Jared and Jensen and they would imply Jensen could sing... imagine Jensen playing Dean trying to sing like Jensen... :P
ReplyDeleteI must say I totally agree with Jensen that Dean shouldn't be a good singer. It just doesn't suit the character. But I'm all for some background singing of Jensen and the other guys in an episode someday.
okay not about this BUT GUYS! Best show of 2010 contest and its down to Supernatural and Castle, weird I know but hehehe.

Meta on top of meta on top of meta. Either you have just created the most bizarre Supernatural episode of all or the most incredible...or maybe both. :-)
ReplyDeletelol I know your worst meta nightmares, Dahne! ;)
ReplyDeleteAnother tough call... I know Death isn't on here cuz he's not a one-shot, so that in itself makes the decision harder. Death is, for many obvious reasons, the ultimate antagonist. I thought Famine was creepy but he wasn't all that hard for the boys to get rid of, neither was War or Pestilence. And, IMO, none of the Horesmen actually 'made' the episodes for me, so I can't vote for them. I think the only antagonist/monster on this list that figured heavily into an ep was Patrick. And, while Sam may have beat him at his own game, they didn't defeat him, so he's still out there somewhere. My vote goes to Patrick. Besides, I'm a sucker for a lilting accent.
ReplyDeletenext poll!!! :D
ReplyDeleteI voted :) So far this is where it stands and the voting will last thru Monday :)
ReplyDeleteBest TV Show of 2010, Round Five
Final game:
49.5% Castle
50.5% Supernatural
Thank you guys for not saying I was completely nuts for suggesting it :) Love the meta episodes. I now that I have read your post and think about.....Yeah I think Dean is like me......Can't sing a single note on key, but that does not stop me from singing along with the radio or tv or even commercials. Ha Ha Ha!!! Agree with the BTVS singers. And again, thanks.
ReplyDeleteI dont get how it can be so close. Castle is good... but cmon no match for spn
ReplyDeleteWe'll nominate for best episode for the next two days and then vote on them starting on Wednesday. Thanks for your enthusiasm though. I appreciate it. :-)
ReplyDeleteYou'll find the nominations at: http://www.spoilertv.com/2011/01/supernatural-weekly-question-5.html
Patrick and War were my two favorites here, but you are right. Nothing is a match for Death. Not just because he is Death but also because it is brilliantly acted. Never fear though, you will be able to vote for Death in a future poll.
ReplyDeleteWeeee Won!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Baiscially the same statistics as above, but we won :)
ReplyDeleteWell DUH!!! ehhee, hope they air this ehehhe
