Hey All,Everyone has 'New Year's Resolutions', and here at SpoilerTV, we've decided to have one too; In 2011 we intend on helping out with donations to Charities. This is where you come in, as each month we will have $100 to donate to a charity of your choice.
That’s right, you get to choose where the money goes. Each month, we will be accepting requests for charities close to our reader’s hearts, or charities that you feel deserve a little extra. You tell us who they are, what they do and why you chose them, and we will enter them into a monthly poll to see who our readers feel should get the donation. The charity with the most votes gets the cash. It’s very simple, and as every charity tells you, a little goes a long way. We will also provide a link to the Charity selected so that if you wish you can make your own donation as well.
Of course rules are that a charity can only receive one donation per year, and we will try to select the charities into the polls that offer a broad range of subjects.
We are looking forward to pushing this drive forward, and helping out some of our friend’s here at SpoilerTV, and also making a difference throughout the year to others who are perhaps less fortunate than ourselves.
So for the first month, January, we're looking for your Charity Nominations, please leave the name and a link to the Charity in the comments below that you would like to nominate for the poll and maybe a little info about why you have selected the charity that you have nominated.
At the start of each month we'll post a Poll for you to vote on and the charity with the most votes at the end of the month will be the ones we donate to. We'll then repeat this process each month.

ReplyDeletewhich is "aims to empower, educate and collaborate with people and projects to positively impact the planet and its creatures"; Paws 4 A Cause (http://paws-4-a-cause.org) which supports the IS Foundation and The St. Tammany Humane Society; and Vampire Support (http://vampire-support.blogspot.com) which supports relief efforts associated with the oil spill in the Gulf as well as other projects that help empower youth to let their voices be heard.

ReplyDeleteThis is great. Not many websites have such good ideas. There are many charities I can think of that could do with some extra support, but I would personally like to see a donation to a charity that doesnt get as much publicity as some others for example SAMARITANS. This organisation provides telephone and email support 24 hours a day for people who are having problems, whether it be financial, emotional,bereavement or job related stress. Often it can help the caller just to have someone to talk to and all Samaritans are trained volunteers. To make a donation or to learn more go to ,

ReplyDeleteI nomiate Smile Train. smiletrain.com Their singular mission is focused on solving 1 single problem: cleft lip and palate.
ReplyDeleteClefts are a major problem in developing countries where there are millions of children who are suffering with unrepaired clefts. Most cannot eat or speak properly. Aren’t allowed to attend school or hold a job. And face very difficult lives filled with shame and isolation, pain and heartache.
This charity stands out that ONLY 1.3% goes to staff/management. 18 to fund raising and a full EIGHTY % goes to helping the children. Their volunteer doctors do surgeries and train other doctors how to do them. In their last 11 years they have trained 60,000 doctors in developing countries how to do the surgery. AWSOME!
I'd like to nominate http://paws-4-a-cause.org/ These are wonderful people doing wonderful things, spending a lot of time and energy to make life better for our furry friends by supporting St Tammany Humane Society's No Kill Shelter. I Also want to nominate the Ian Somerhalder Foundation http://www.isfoundation.com/ Help Ian save the world we live in by getting especially young people involved and to educate them in questions concerning cleaner energy as well as the importance of biodiversity and our dependence on a healthy environment.
ReplyDeleteI put forth the nomination for "Camp Sunshine"... It's an established network of philanthropists and doctors/volunteers dedicated to giving young children stricken with cancer an annual chance of a lifetime: One week out of the year, these ailing children are brought to Camp and can be "normal" surrounded by love, and a state-of-the-art, gorgeous establishment. They have several empowering, super-fun, strongly varying activities that they may choose to partake in, and can make friends with others, and bonds that will last a lifetime. No one is there to coddle you, it's a full-blown camp, but it's also handicap-friendly, and is usually managed by a team of long-time volunteers made up of amazing individuals who want to give back to the community. Celebrities show up time to time, free concerts by generally big bands, and evening activities that are brilliant and fun. How do I know all of this? I went there as a child, and I can say safely that I have never felt such strength or love in one place. The things that these kids can do when they let the pretenses of grieving families and hospital visits go is nothing short of inspiring. I had the greatest times of my life there, and I certainly mean to volunteer as soon as I am able.

We are a group of foster carers who resuce dogs and cats from the pound, take them into out homes, and look after them until they're ready to go to their forever homes. A lot of the time, I have about 5 dogs in my apartment at once, and some can be pretty destructive. We are non-profit, so anything we make, goes straight back into the charity, and all volunteers pay for the dogs' upkeep (except vet bills). So donations help the carers pay for food, toys, bedding, flea/worm treatment... a little can go a long way.

ReplyDeleteI would like to nominate Friends of Homeless Animals, which is a non-profit, no-kill shelter for homeless dogs and cats. I've been volunteering with them for more than 10 years, and have always been impressed with the level of care the animals receive. FOHA always has at least 100 dogs and 80 cats for adoption, and is a volunteer-based rescue group. Most of the animals in FOHA's care come from county shelters right before they are euthanized, and others are rescued from bad situations. FOHA helped several pets from Louisiana during Hurricane Katrina, and even drove one dog all the way back from Virginia when her family was found. FOHA was hit hard with medical bills this year after rescuing several special-needs animals, including a dog with cancer who came from a hoarder, and another dog who was shot and left outside with a broken leg. This is a great organization, and your donation to this group will go a long way to helping the animals in their care.

ReplyDeleteI'd like to nominate Paws 4 A Caws - http://paws-4-a-cause.org/the-project/. Natalie who runs Paws 4 A Cause worked tirelessly between September & November 2010 to rally Vampire Diaries and Ian Somerhalder fans to raise a massive $11,210 by running The Ian Somerhalder Birthday Project the proceeds of which were presented to the St Tammany Humane Society Animal Shelter Director (Vaughan), by Ian at the Unleashed Bash on the Bayou Fundraising Event held on 13th November 2010.
Following it's enormous success Natalie has decided to make The Ian Somerhalder Birthday Project (now renamed Paws For A Cause) an annual fundraising event and has already started working towards a goal to raise $30,000 between now and 12 November 2011. Any funds raised will be divided between St Tammany Humane Society Animal Shelter (85%) and The Ian Somerhalder Foundation (15%). Any donations will benefit these two wonderful Organisations and with Natalie at the helm the target amount will be reached and quite possibly surpassed. Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated for this worthwhile cause.

Hrmm I'd love to nominate a charity that helps with young adults facing recent disabilities or debilitating/handicapping illnesses but unfortunately I'm not aware of any such charity (as most are targetted to children or teens, or just adults.... So I suppose either the salvation army or paws4acause
ReplyDeleteGreat to hear! For sure a huge number of charities want to participate in this kind of event. This is one of a kind opportunity but sad to say that my comment is actually late. I'm not so sure if this is already end but anyways I'd like the concept because it actually helps and at the same time gives charities an equal opportunity to be listed. If this is still open I would like to nominate Wheels For Wishes car donation program since they benefit my favorite foundation which is Make-A-Wish Foundation. Hope that will be done each year.
