Today's Question of the Day comes from rochey_1.
Who is your Favourite TV Villain?
For me personally, my favourite bad guy was "The Smoking Man" from the X-Files, also one of my favourite shows.
Other Villains of note that I've really enjoyed watching are
Ben Linus (Lost)
Sylar (Heroes)
T-Bag (Prison Break)
Satan (Reaper)
and Monty Burns from The Simpsons
What about you? Who are your favourite bad guys/girls and why.
Sound off in the comments.

does Tony Soprano count? :P
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Ben Linus!!! He's one of my favourite characters of all times...
ReplyDeleteSterling from Leverage. Mark Sheppard is amazing.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts exactly. If he's considered a villain, than I'd probably vote for him. The same goes for Patty Hewes? Is she a villain? If yes, than I'd struggle to choose between the both of them.
ReplyDeleteBut anyway, Cancer/Smoking Man is a great choice. I was always a little scared when he showed up on screen plotting against Mulder.
Can`t chose just one^^
ReplyDelete1. Azazel - Supernatural
2. Scorpius - Farscape
3. Spike - Buffy
I love Ben from Lost and The Smoking Man from The X-Files, but my all time favorite TV Villain is the Daleks from Doctor Who.
ReplyDeleteIt´s very dificult...
ReplyDeleteBen Linus-------Lost
Azazel-------Supernatural
Lex-------Smallville
T-Bag-----Prison Break
The smoking man is epic! He's my favorite too! Other than that, I'd say T-Bag. He creeps me out because I know there are people in real life that are just like him.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely
ReplyDelete1- Spike (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)
2- Damon (The Vampire Diaries)
3- Tony Soprano (The Sopranos)
4- Montgomery Burns (The Simpsons)
5- Faith (Buffy The Vampire Slayer)
Smoking Man was great Villian.During the peak of X-Files(Seasons 2-6 plus first movie) always great to have him on the screen.Always stories were more Intresting when he showed up.He wasn't used very well for season 7 and without him was one of many factors which hurt seasons 8,9.
ReplyDeleteBen was also great on Lost.
Paulie G, from Lisa Cudrow's Comeback. He was a true villain. I miss this show, cancelled too soon but still, the whole 13 episodes season is great on its own.
ReplyDeleteMark Pellegrino as Lucifer in Supernatural.. He gives me the creeps!! It's even worse when they call him Lucy!! *shivers*
ReplyDeleteI love villlains and bad guys in general so my list is endless but I would say that I have a Top Five list at the moment:
ReplyDelete-Alastair (Supernatural)
-Crowley (Supernatural)
-Angelus (Buffy)
-The evill puppets from Smile Time (Angel)
-Ben Linus (Lost)
Ben Linus with out a doubt!! He will always be one of the best Villains ever. Mostly because you never really knew when we was lying or who's side he was ever on.
ReplyDeleteFor me it falls into two sub-categories. The anti-hero you love and hate at the same time (and too often find yourself cheering for) and the villain you love to hate because you just cannot stand him. There are a few that stand out in this group to me... Spike from BTVS, Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell from Prison Break, Sylar on Heroes (season 1) and Smoking Man in The X-files, but for me Michael Emerson is the clear winner in the first category for me. Ben Linus is easily one of the best TV characters ever!
ReplyDeleteThen the villains you just cannot like at all, but respect because they creep you out. Darken Rahl from Legend of the Seeker makes me want to shower after I see him, Jubal Early from Firefly was another, Sloane from Alias, but the one I would not want to encounter anywhere ...ever was Stringer Bell from The Wire. Hi cold calculated and just ruthless control.... terrified me. One of those silent men you know you should fear because of how his stillness is like the serpent coiling before the strike. Also the fact he was not crazy or fly off the handle nuts. He thought out what he wanted to do and got it done no matter who it was going to hurt.
Best Villain to cheer for: Ben Linus
Best Villain to cringe over: Stringer Bell
[Honorable mention to Mark Sheppard and half a dozen characters he has played. Always fun but for me never truly terrifying enough or quite dynamic and multi-leveled to cheer for.]
Mark Sheppard in anything is a great choice. He does bad well. I love him as Sterling and as Crowley in Supernatural. He adds the fun to the menace in most characters he plays.
ReplyDeleteOh, I found a better villain than Paulie G : Newman, from Seinfeld. He's pure evil.
ReplyDeleteLex Luthor (Smallville) played by i hope he returns to season 10 Michael Rosenbaum
ReplyDeleteLionel Luthor (Smallville) played by John Glover
Doomsday/Davis Bloome (Smallville) played by Sam Witwer
General Zod (Smallville) played by Callum Blue
Brainiac (Smallville) played by James Marsters
even Darkseid (Smallville)
Alastair and Azazel from Supernatural
ReplyDeleteAngelus and Spike (pre-chip) from Buffy
CSM from X-Files
The Gravedigger (before we found out who she was) and Howard Epps on Bones
btw these are not in order except for Lex being at the top.
ReplyDeleteKiller BOB on Twin Peaks. The way he'd show up in mirrors and visions of him running towards you.....aaarrrrgh!
ReplyDeleteEarly Spike before the brain chip on Buffy, and Drusilla wasn't bad either. He was snarky and she was creepy, and together they made one ruthless couple. Good fun.
My all time favorite villain is Spike from Buffy. Drusilla was also great.
ReplyDeleteI have to say that Drusilla is one of my favorite villains too!
ReplyDeleteCrowley (Mark Sheppard - Supernatural) - such a snarky little bugger
ReplyDeleteAlastair (Christopher Heyerdahl - Supernatural) - such a creepy disturbing slime ball
Katherine Pierce (The Vampire Diaries)
ReplyDeleteThe Carver (Nip/Tuck)
T-Bag (Prison Break)
Willy E. Coyote, hands down :)
ReplyDelete(Katherine Pierce)-The Vampire Diaries
ReplyDeleteLucifer-Supernatural
Great show, Twin Peaks...
ReplyDeleteT-Bag was great.
ReplyDeleteBenjamin Linus was for a while.
Loved Man in Black when Terry O'Quinn played him too
1. Lucifer ( Supernatural. Mark Pellegrino did such an amazing job!)
ReplyDelete2. The Man in Black (Titus Welliver/Terry O Quinn)
3.Ben Linus
4. Spike
5. Azazel (Anyone else find it funny that three supernatural villians have all appeared on Lost as well? The guy who plays Azazel was the US Marshall in Lost, for those who don't know.)
T-Bag (Prison Break)
ReplyDeleteAva Moore (Nip/Tuck)
Gretchen (Prison Break)
Mandy (24)
Lex Luther (Smallville)
Ben Linus- Lost

I LOVE Ben Linus! He's the best TV villain ever :D
ReplyDeleteAnd a good guy too... ;)
Ben Linus
ReplyDeleteQ from Star Trek: TNG
Tony Soprano -- good one! But also Uncle Junior
What about Simon Cowell?
Damn i meant to add MIB to my list! Titus Welliver is a great actor!!
ReplyDeleteCoweel was the only judge i LIKED when I watched Idol first season or two.
ReplyDeleteBen Linus!!! №1!!!
ReplyDeleteBen Linus, hands down.
ReplyDeleteLucifer from "Reaper" was great. Ray Wise was fantastic.
ReplyDeleteMy least favorite TV villain, however, is the 18-49 adult demo. It's always killing off good shows.
ROFL could not have said it better!
ReplyDeleteLoved Ray Wise in Reaper - 'smarmy' is the word that springs to mind, and menacing.....
ReplyDeleteAnd as to the other - totally agree
Ray Wise is to snarky and smarmy as Mark Shepard is to sinister and sardonic.
ReplyDeleteMan in Black- Lost
ReplyDeleteBen Linus- Lost
Lex Luthor- Smallville
Lioniel Luthor- Smallville
Wil Wheaton- Big Bang Theory
Ben Linus, but given how things turned out, it's hard for me to consider him a villain anymore. So I'd say The Man In Black, he was one of the few TV (and movie) characters who were believable as a threatening, deadly and unbeatable villain.
ReplyDeleteWARREN!
ReplyDeletefrom Buffy
I adore Crowley from Supernatural. He is the ultimate TV villain to my eyes. Another contender for favourite villain was Lucifer, also from Supernatural, played amazing by Mark Pellegrino. Hmmm...who else...I really enjoyed George Foyet (aka 'The Reaper') on Criminal Minds, he was the creepiest thing I've ever seen. The entire Luthor family from Smallville (though I'll reserve judgement on Tess for the time being, I like her this season), because it's so difficult to create genuinely sympathetic villains, and they do it so brilliantly. The Gravedigger from Bones was also excellent, and very well done. Ari from NCIS is another villain I love to hate. And finally, because IMO no list of TV villains would be complete without him: Azazel, the Yellow Eyed Demon from Seasons 1 and 2 of Supernatural.
ReplyDeleteGotta be ben linus, sylar was laughable.
ReplyDeleteEven though Heroes turned to complete and utter shit, I kept watching because of Sylar. I don't even care that allowing him to live past season one was the beginning of the end, he was just awesome.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of the beginning of the end, Benjamin Linus. Probably my favorite TV character ever. And still in LOST, I can't think of another character who matches the epicness of the villain that The Man in Black personified.
Alpha from Dollhouse is another great one.
And I can't believe this hasn't been mentioned yet-- TRINITY from Dexter.
And... For humors sake... Dwight K. Schrute.
Mr. Burns hands off! He is so awesome, he doesnt care, he's so cheap and evil, and he's hilarious!
ReplyDeleteI miss Crowley :(
ReplyDeleteMe too. :( Mind you, this is SPN, so with any luck, he won't stay dead for long...
ReplyDeleteAlastair from Supernatural. I think this quote sums him up ; "Go directly to hell. Do not pass go, do not collect 200$."
ReplyDeleteWell, there is Smallville's Zod
ReplyDeleteMy Favorites:
ReplyDeleteBen Linus - Lost
Man in Black - Lost
Arthur Mitchell - Dexter
Smoking Man - X-Files
Alex Krycek - X-Files
Spike and Drusilla were my favorite evil couple. They were fun to watch. Too bad Drusilla left and Spike got chipped. I missed all the humor.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure creepy fits when his job description is Lead Torturer in Hell. Think of all the other torturers he had to surpass. I would go with psychotically mesmerizing and pure evil.
ReplyDeleteHow could I forget Ari? Good choices!
ReplyDeleteDo whimper and cower in the corner (even if you are just a viewer). Do believe that he will eviscerate you body and spirit. Do check the pipes when trying to contain him.
ReplyDeleteBen Linus.... quote...SO?????
ReplyDeleteBenjamin Linus, the puppet-master.
ReplyDeleteThe Man in Black is awesome too.
"You should've called your plumber." Or something like that. That was great. :)
ReplyDeleteBen Linus. The character you love to hate. And that stare he gives: EERIE! Michael Emerson played the character brilliantly.
ReplyDeleteI love: "Something caught in my throat...I think it's my throat"
ReplyDeleteso many!!
ReplyDeletemy first pick would be ben form lost. no contest, he was simply evil!!
other great villains would be the reaper from criminal minds (or just about any unsub they've faced off against)
azazel from supernatural
ari from ncis
the man in black from lost
sylar from heroes
this could go on for some time so i'll stop it there
great to see Reaper finally get mentioned. Such an underrated show and Satan really was a character
ReplyDeleteI liked Ari from NCIS a lot. I forgot about him since he was not on too often, but when he was on he sure made a statement!!
ReplyDeleteTheee... Gentlemen people creature things from Buffy that made everyone mute.
ReplyDeleteand the Actual size monster from the Halloween Episode. >U>
Mr. Freeze, Scarecrow - Batman:TAS |D
Zap Brannigan - Futurama [he may not be a technical villain, but he is an antagonist, and screws things up]

The ones I come to think of right now is Alpha from Dollhouse, The Gentlemen from Buffy and Adelai Niska from Firefly. Whedon, who? Noo, I'm not familliar with this person you call Whedon...
ReplyDeleteRochey: So true about God. Totally MIA when those two crazy brothers were messing around. They could have used some serious smiting!
ReplyDeleteGordon Ramsey! ROFL.
ReplyDeleteCSM - X-Files
ReplyDeleteAlex Krycek - X-Files
Ari - NCIS
Eli - NCIS (he is goos sometimes, but not often enough)
Dan - One Tree Hill
Burns - Simpsons
Miss Parker - The Pretender (she has her mean moments)
Dexter
Esteban - Weeds
CSM - The X-Files; T-Bag - Prison Break; Caleb and Angelus - Buffy tVS
ReplyDeleteWilliam B. Davis still gives me the chills, he was awesome on my all time favorite TV series.
T-Bag, Caleb and Angelus were funny crazy characters. Love them all.
I also liked Ben Linus and the Trinity killer played by John Lithgow.
Then there's Spike and Dexter, two amazing loveable characters. But they never scared me, I just love them and all their flaws.
my favorite villians....Ben Linus and ST TNG...Q.....
ReplyDeleteboth were evilllll....but fun too
Definitely. He creeped me out, he infuriated me, he surprised me, he even earned my sympathy, and in the end, Jacob help me, I almost liked him.
ReplyDeletePoint taken! I change my vote from Ben Linus, who ended up redeemed, to the unredeemed.....Martin (I make good eggs) Keamy!!!!!
ReplyDeleteLove your name. Hee hee.
ReplyDeleteeither Lucifer (supernatural) or Arthur Mtchell (Dexter)
ReplyDeleteBen Linus!! (LOST)
ReplyDeleteSylar - Heroes
ReplyDeleteSpike (Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel)
Dexter Morgan (Dexter)
Eric Northman (True Blood)
Fowler (white collar)
Dr. Cox - Scrubs
herrick (being human)
Brainiac (Smallville)
olivia from the other universe (fringe)
