Hey all, hope you all had a good weekend!
Today's Question of the day comes from Catarina
Which parts/actors in a hit TV show do you think were really miscast and why?
Catarina says
My votes go for:
Josh Radnor (Ted Mosby) on HIMYM (He is just too annoying and has no charisma).
Cobie Smulders (Robin Sherbatsky) on HIMYM (She is not WOW enough to play the part of a woman everyone vies for).
Kaley Cuoco (Penny) on TBBT (her ""talent"" can't be compared with that of the other cast members and it stands out).
What about you? Are there any characters/actors that you feel are miscast? Who would you have preferred to have filled that role? Sound off in the comments below.
You can see previous Questions of the Day here.
Thanks for all your suggestions and questions that you have been submitting, I try to pick out ones that I find interesting myself and that I think you'd all enjoy discussing. If I have not used one of yours yet, don't worry, it maybe tomorrows QOD!.

Ted Mosby. Grossly miscast + really annoying.
ReplyDeleteMichael Chikilis on No Ordinary Family, possibly the worst casting choice ever?
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with that, I love him in No Ordinary Family.
ReplyDeleteI CAN'T THINK OF ANYONE ;/
ReplyDeleteDon't agree, he has something sweet and geeky, which might make it difficult for him to find his wife =P
ReplyDeleteTara from True Blood, seriously I hate the character and the acting equally. And I also think they should have found a better actress for Serena in Gossip Girl.
ReplyDeleteThe girl that plays Amy on The Secret Life Of The American Teenager. That show is bad enough, but she is such a terrible actress. Every time shes supposed to be "emotional", she fails at it. My friends and I always joke that we are probably sucky actors, but we could act better than she can
ReplyDeleteCompletely disagree about Kaley Cuoco. She's a good actress but the writing for her character is simply too weak compared to the others. The most obvious case of miscasting was Ralph Fiennes in Flashforward last year.
ReplyDeleteIn a Hit show, I would say Lea Michele and Cory Monteith, compared to the other actors they're so weak.
Hm I don't agree with any of Catarina's choices.
ReplyDelete1) Ted is a pretty cool guy, can't really imagine him being anyone else
2) Robin is really hot ;)
3) and Kaley plays exactly the role she's supposed to play!
As for miscasts... maybe Joshua Jackson on Fringe, I think he's a pretty bad actor.
I actually for the first time do not agree with any of your choices as miscast. I love Ted as Ted and if they had a different actor in the role it just would not be the same for.
ReplyDeleteI think Cobie is GORGEOUS and I might vie for her and I am straight!
Kaley is possibly the one I agree with you most on, but I think a lot fo the reason she is my least favorite character on TBBT is the writing she gets.. or rather the lines the writers give her. She is one I would argue is not a woman that every one would vie for.
Not only is she miscast as Tara, but the entire character is miscast in the series. I know they needed to add characters, or add depth to VERY MINOR characters in the books, but I think they totally misdid both her casting and the character profile.
ReplyDeleteWell I agree with you, but understand why they cast Lea... she can sing! Cory is adequate as both a singer and an actor. He does not have the pipes to balance out his lack of acting ability... and is he really that gorgeous as they make him out to be? I get a little Frankenstein's monster, lumbering goon from him.....
ReplyDeleteBen Rappaport (Todd Dempsey) on Outsourced. He's good and I like him but he seriously lacks the charm that a male lead needs to fulfill the role and he is more often than not out-shined by the minor characters that he acts off of.
ReplyDeleteAidan as Mitchell on Being Human BBC... He NEVER did it for me as a notorious vicious vampire trying to reform. Maybe as a totally snotty ballet dancer trying to get on with being human.
ReplyDeleteAny of the "actors" cast in Glee. IF they were going to cast more believable high schoolers it could start with having the two leads not be over 25!
I know many will hate me for this, but.....Jared Padalecki on Supernatural. I know brothers do not necessarily look alike, but for a role that honestly requires depth of emotion and subtlety of expression I think they could have found MANY better actors that looked like Dean at least as much as Jared.
After seeing him in Fantastic 4 and on The Shield so long I really do not have a problem seeing him as some heroic character. I thought he was miscast in The Shield at first since I watched him on The Commish where he played a mild manned pudgy and balding small town comissioner.. Boy was I wrong!! He WAS Vic Mackey!!
ReplyDeleteactually for the first time do not agree with any of your choices as miscast.
I will be stoned for this but, as much as I was obsessed with Gilmore Girls, I have to say that Alexis Bledel was miscasted. She was a better actress at the beginning of the series than she was towards the end (if that makes any sense), she was lanky and awkward and she didn't do emotion very well. She seemed very uncomfortable with some of the things that she had to do and it made for an uncomfortable viewing experience at times. I didn't hate her, and her and Lauren Graham had nice chemistry, I just think that they could've found someone much better.
ReplyDeleteI totally agree with your choice of jared. he was good the first season but then he just got worse after that. I am a fan of supernatural so im not dissing the show, but i agree they could have found a better actor with the looks to match and go along with dean.
ReplyDeleteShe played the awkward, doe eyed girl perfectly, but no telling how the role or the woman will age. I agree with you, but let's be honest she was not hired for her acting ability. She was hired for her eyes... They said more than her acting ability ever did without any effort.
ReplyDeleteWow I totally glanced over and forgot to comment on Ralph Fiennes. First off... let's be serious... it is RALF not RAFE. That alone makes me not like him a little. He DEFINITELY does not have the charisma to pull off the lead in that series where everything revolved around him for the most part. I think he is actually a pretty good actor, but he was just all kinds of wrong for that role... or that role was all kinds of wrong to begin with... you decide....
ReplyDeleteTrue. Her and LG had the prettiest blue-eyes on TV!
ReplyDeleteOMG So I confused Ralph Fiennes with Joseph Fiennes, sue me.
ReplyDeleteI plan on doing exactly that.
ReplyDeleteWell, if you think Jared Padalecki's acting is not up to your standards, that's understandable, everybody judges actors differently. But come on, all silblings don't look like twins.
ReplyDeleteAnd Aidan is perfect for Being Human. Did you watch the original pilot? Gosh, that guy was so wrong for Mitchell.
Alrighty...good luck with that..
ReplyDeleteHA! You confused me with it too.. I just meant I hate how ralph pronounces his name.... I did not even think about it being Joseph!
ReplyDeleteI preferred him (actor who's name I do not know in the pilot) by far. He was tortured and broken as a killer vampire who is trying to reform would be. Aidan just seemed to happy-go-lucky and far too tan.
ReplyDeleteJust look at the WB/CW shows and most of the leading men have one thing in common... not very good actors , but they all sure can make the pouty-face! Tom Welling, Paul Wesley, Jared Padalecki, Any of the GG boys, Shane West even! They do have a type.....
ReplyDeleteWow, I completely disagree with Catarina on all of her choices.
ReplyDeleteAnd I can't think of anyone that's been miscast.
I cannot imagine anyone else as Sam Winchester. Jared was not miscast!
ReplyDeleteHonestly? Jared has gotten better since season one, not worse!
ReplyDeleteI think he has gotten better since season 1 honestly(not hard). I just think that it is still obvious he is the weak acting link in the show... not to mention the reason I stopped watching it originally was his bad acting in season one. The main reason he got the job I think is that he had a loyal fan base from The Gilmore Girls and a built-in teen girl audience already watching the same channel. I can't picture anyone else in the role either to be honest, but it is rare that (off the top of my head) I can picture and actor or actress in a role they did not create.
ReplyDeleteI don't agree with Catarina at all ... I think Josh Radnor doesn't get enough credits. As for Robin she plays her part very well as well as Kaley on TBBT - she fits right in..
ReplyDeleteFor some reason i don't like Alex O'Loughlin in anything he does :/
I don't mind him, he plays the straight man to NPH's Barney really well!
ReplyDeleteI honestly think most hit shows are perfectly cast, even if I hate said hit show (like Two and a Half Men, etc.) I still realize that the person who was cast is really good at what they do. *shrug*
ReplyDeleteI think Alex is a little like some notoriously one-note actors that made a living being themselves for roles. Charlie Sheen, Tom cruise, George Clooney etc... The three I mentioned did extraordinary work when they played against type in various roles...maybe Alex will have a role like that too some time? So far in The Shield, Moonlight and Hawaii Five-0 he has been kinda one-note and how I think he may be in real life. I don't find it as bad as some, but I do maybe understand why you do not care for him.
ReplyDeleteJulia Stiles on Dexter - Find her annoying and terrible actress
ReplyDeleteSupernatural relies mostly on the ability of Jensen and Jared to come across as brothers. They have a great chemistry together (on and off screen the genuinely appear to get each other) and that is why it works. This is much more important than if they look like brothers.
ReplyDeleteThe baby from Raising Hope. Its such a terrible actor, no emotion in its face, what a terrible baby.
ReplyDeleteOH the bond is the reason the show is still on. They are best friends on and off screen. I am not sure they were that close when it started or if the friendship grew over the past 6 or 7 years.
ReplyDeleteMy point was not to find an actor that looked more like Jensen. It was that I thought there were more talented actors that would have done a better job expressing than Jared.. and still been able to look like Jensen. That was a consideration but not a need.Like I wrote in the post, I know not all brothers necessarily look alike. I am not trying to talk anyone into thinking they need to replace Jared or the show may have gotten better ratings if he was not cast as Sam. I just felt it was an odd choice at the beginning of the series.
I don't agree. Josh is great on Fringe.
ReplyDeleteHawaii Five-O, NCIS and Alex O'Loughlin! :D
ReplyDeleteMichael on Nikita
ReplyDeleteStephen Moyer as Bill on True Blood. He does the worst Southern accent I've ever heard, has like 2 facial expressions, and isn't even as attractive as Bill is supposed to be.
ReplyDeleteShould have been Harry Connick Jr. all the way.
Ugh. Go post on the Onion if you're not going to take the question seriously.
ReplyDeleteReally? I would rather have a different person play Dean than Sam and since I would die if either of them weren't cast that is saying a lot. I think Jared is a great actor and he plays the role very well. I think he has a harder job than Jensen considering there is a lot of different role he has to play within the same character but he pulls it off with much belieability. I think more people tend to lean towards Jensen as Dean because his character is more dynamic but Jared is an equally great actor just in a more subdued sense.
ReplyDeleteOh, I totally agree. What were they thinking casting such an unexperienced actor. XD
ReplyDeleteReally? Are you pulling a absolutly-no-having-fun-in-this-comment-space? XD Wow, I think your taking this a bit to seriously.
ReplyDeleteReally? Are you pulling a absolutly-no-having-fun-in-this-comment-space? XD Wow, I think your taking this a bit to seriously.
ReplyDeleteHe grew on me, but I thought he was too old and I agree on the accent and attractiveness thing. Although, he is far better looking OFF the series... so maybe it is the wardrobe and makeup department?
ReplyDeleteSummer Glau in "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles", Laura Vandervoort in "V", Nicole Sullivan and Will Sasso in "Shit My Dad Says!", Jessica Capshaw in "The Practice", Gale Harold in "Queer as Folk" and "Desperate Housewives", Eric Stoltz in "Caprica".....I could keep going but that's a start.
ReplyDeleteWow, I guess it really is to each their own, I really love Jared on Supernatural. I think he's been doing a particularly fine job as RoboSam this season, I'm almost sorry things will most likely be changing after Christmas.
ReplyDeleteHmmm...can't think of anyone off the top of my head, but I only watch about 4 shows routinely. Oh wait, I've thought of one: Rocky Caroll as Vance in NCIS. Mind you, I'm not sure anyone could have played that character in a way I would have liked, I dislike him to the extent that I attempt to skip Vance-heavy episodes.
ReplyDeleteI really agree with the fact that they could have chosen a better actor to start with... but Jared has since made the character his own and I like him as the character. Believe me, I thought Jensen was really annoying when the show started but he developped into a better actor. I think they are both doing very good work with their characters, coming from an underground show like Supernatural.
ReplyDeleteI think he is doing a better job this year than ever before in the show, but I really meant the "casting" and when I first watched SPN he just did not feel right to me.
ReplyDeleteAh I see. I understand where you're coming from now, even though I liked him from episode one. Thanks for clarifying. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's not that i did not like him exactly, just thought he was a bad actor or very limited. I gave him a chance and watched the rest of the series last couple months and he HAS gotten better.
ReplyDeleteLol, we're becoming the epitome of miscommunication. I'm glad you gave him a chance anyway, it would have been tragic to miss out on Supernatural because of that.
ReplyDeleteHAHAA! Seems like there is a lot of that on this site!
ReplyDeleteOk, it was just a joke, sorry for trying to provide a few laughs. It wasn't meant to mock the seriousness of the question. I'm truly sorry that the 2 seconds it took to read my post offended you to the point that you felt the need to respond. I'm sorry.
ReplyDeleteIf you would like to hear my serious answer (which I doubt at this point you do) it would be Shantel VanSanten on One Tree Hill. Ever since the character Quinn arrived on the show, I've just wanted her to leave because the actress does such a terrible job and doesn't have any chemistry with the other actors of the show.
Oh yeah! I think it's because a lot of people sometimes skim people's responses and reply quickly without taking time to process the first person's post. God knows I've been guilty of that more than once!
ReplyDeleteyeh " gotta agree, take it a bit more seriously! anyway, my vote goes to maggie simpson's voice actor, the dummy sucking just doesnt sound realistic :)
ReplyDeleteMalcolm David Kelly on LOST was, in my opinion, a bad casting choice on Darlton's part. I honestly believe that it ruined what I choose to believe was a lot of the original plan for the show as a whole.
ReplyDelete*slaps self in shame*
ReplyDeleteSeriously....i have no credibility here....cause i watch 2 out of 3 of these shows....but....
CSI MIAMI - David Caruso - Just hilariously AWFUL.....but i suppose it's hilarious....so thats something LOL
GOSSIP GIRL - Ed Westwick - same as above......i think he's his son ;)
VAMPIRE DIARIES - Ian Somerhalder - in a minority....but this guy Hams the screen up....I think he's Ed's Brother ;)
Wow...what a family :D
Yeah...can't think of anymore.....these are the ones that stand out.....so Murder away :))
<33
yeah i agree...He's supposed to be playing Dead behind the eyes/traumatised ex marine....but it's Shane West....and...Yeah....It's Shane West :))
ReplyDelete'Laura Vandervoort in "V'
ReplyDeleteYeah i agree but compare her to the guy who plays 'Tyler'.....so bad...i can't be arsed to google his real name.....but yeah she should win an oscar compared to this guy :))
Yes IWILLBEYOURCONSTANT *giggles*
ReplyDeleteI'm giving it away for free these days......Love the baby joke.....Cmon whats life without jokes <33
'simpson's voice actor, the dummy sucking just doesnt sound realistic :)'
ReplyDeleteHAhahahahahahahahahahaa *giggle then a cough a lung up fit*
CHARLIE SHEEN is never good at what he does....and i saw His Epic performance in Wall street :))
ReplyDeleteNo cmon....he is good at DRUGS :))
Sorry if you like him.....it's clear i don't :))
'maybe Alex will have a role like that too some time? So far in The Shield, Moonlight and Hawaii Five-0 he has been kinda one-note'
ReplyDeleteYeah maybe one day he'll find a role that will work for him.....I've seen mediocre actors take on a role and surpirise me.....but right now, having seen 'Moonlight and Hawaii 5-0'.....He's wooden and kinda flat and acted off the screen by his partner....but....it's just MHO <33
I agree. I do however think they missed an opportunity to explain his growth. They could have said the Other did experiments on him, or that Jacob touch him the wrong way, or because time flowed differently off of the island. They should have made somebody else be special instead of the one character who was gonna age too fast. It could have been a better part for Claire, Boone, or Shannon if they were special the way Walt was.
ReplyDeleteTrue southern accents aren't really something to brag about. I'm from Kentucky, and I could do without hearing more southern accents than I have to. I would also think after so many years that his accent could change without being unbelievable.
ReplyDeleteMy dudeness won't allow me to comment on the looks issue.
ReplyDeletethat is eff dup.
ReplyDelete'Aidan as Mitchell on Being Human BBC... He NEVER did it for me as a notoriously vicious vampire trying to reform. Maybe as a totally snotty ballet dancer trying to get on with being human.'
ReplyDeleteHahahahahahahaha......yeah kinda see your point.....I'm Irish, but i dunno whether it's the accent that throws me off, or if it's what you said.....MEH....At least he's hot.....Yeah...i know....Totally shallow....Eh :))
'Jared Padalecki on Supernatural. I know brothers do not necessarily look alike, but for a role that honestly requires depth of emotion and subtlety of expression I think they could have found MANY better actors that looked like Dean at least as much as Jared.'
I respect your opinion but i disagree.....i totally buy that they're brothers....they have the chemistry to make that connection, and physically they are opposites, and that for me works, cause family in general are a mixed bag.
Take my family -
Me - blond/blue eyes/tall
bro 1 - black hair/blue eyes/tall
Bro 2 - red hair/hazel eyes/short
Dad - Brown hair/brown eyes/tall
Mam - gray hair/hazel eyes/short as hell
See mixed bag if i ever did see one.....WOW almost my life story....would you like my measurements too *giggles*
'Evan Rachel Wood as Queen Sophie Anne'
I haven't read the books....you have, so you're kinda the expert here....i enjoy her performance because she goes on like a spoilt Brat :))
Thanks for your comments....I love picking your brain <333
From now on we should all be tested to make sure we don't have a sense of humor before we log on.
ReplyDeleteI disagree. The baby has just the right amount of experience, and certainly has more acting experience and talent than I do.
ReplyDeleteOh for Abbey Stefaniak's sake, here is my serious response: The baby has had emotion on its face, it smiles and/or cries in most episodes.
'And Aidan is perfect for Being Human. Did you watch the original pilot? Gosh, that guy was so wrong for Mitchell.'
ReplyDeleteyeah.... he looked a lot different..... but i really think he was recast, cause the creators decided to go for sex appeal, so cast Aiden..... but this guy had a 'sexual predatory' vibe coming off him....which is what a vampire should be.......Aiden doesn't pull this off IMHO
I was a liitle bit dissapointed actually, to be honest....Aiden's accent throws me off....and i'm IRISH....god i'm ungrateful LOL
well, now, that is true.
ReplyDelete'Aidan just seemed too happy-go-lucky and far too tan'
ReplyDeleteSEX APPEAL 'darq'......style over substance....sad, but thats what works these days....i prefered Mitchell from the pilot....I like Aiden but this guy was better :))
Dean Winchester is the master of pouting <33
ReplyDeleteHis great acting just adds to the whole package <33
Blasphemy! Mr. Jackson is great, for the character he plays. Of all the characters on the show, he seems the most like somebody who could really exist. When I first found out about Fringe, I thought, aww crap, the dude from Dawson's Creek? This might suck. Then I watched it and realized that I shouldn't judge somebody only on what they worked on before because I though he was great on Fringe. He feels easier to identify with than many characters on TV.
ReplyDeleteFlashforward messed up when they built up hype around Dominic Monaghan, only to take forever to finally showing him. They just made to big of a deal about him. I thought the actors were great, but the story was being dished out too slowly. I still think it should have been V that got cancelled instead of Flashforward. Despite its flaws, Flashforward was at least interesting.
ReplyDeleteJoseph Fiennes did have odd expressions at times. He seemed uncomfortable when he showed expression, but in a way it made him a little less bland as a character.
She cries more than Matthew Fox did on Lost! I get so tired of that lip-quivering thing she does constantly. I like her attitude sometimes though.
ReplyDeletewhy? I think he's great on it. what is so bad that make it worst ever?
ReplyDeleteAs for casting on No Ordinary Family is concerned, I can't help but to think of Guillermo Diaz's character from Half Baked every time they show him. I keep waiting for him to say, "For real, B!"
ReplyDeleteThe part of Zoe on Lost, and I don't think I need to explain why.
ReplyDeleteJensen Ackles as Jason on Smallville, because he sucked ass just like he did on My Bloody Valentine.
Lana Lang on Smallville because she was annoying.
Smokey on Lost, because the CGI could have been better.
Chris Vance as Whistler on Prison Break, he was annoying.
Clifton Collins Jr. on the Event, because his character is dull.
Malcom D. Kelley on Lost, the producers should have seen his growth coming and made better changes.
Leonard Nimoy on Fringe because he isn't likely to appear much again if at all and could have been such an interesting character to get in to.
Brittany Daniel on Always Sunny because she is way to hot to have a dong
Jason Lee on Memphis Beat because I'd rather see him return to movies
Marsha Thomason on Lost because I was so irritated by her character that I was glad Locke threw the knife
Veronica Hamel on Lost because she did have the right chemistry with the fantastic Mr. Fox
Tom Connolly as young Widmore on Lost because he didn't look like the other actors that played him.
First.. never said i liked him. to me he is kinda ek... a caricature of himself now , but I like dhim the Major League movies... classic sports comedy. He still played himself for the most part tho. Far as drugs go... I could not give 2 cents if an actor does drugs or not... some of the best artists of all kinds in history were drug abusers.
ReplyDeleteSome one else commented to me about the looks thing. I said I know families do NOT look alike. MY thoughts were they could have gotten a BETTER ACTOR that atleast was as similar looking... not more. Since then I have also agreed with others and now you, that the chemistry is amazing between them. My comment was on the original casting... pre 6 years of the series and before they may have known about chemistry. All that said... he was not the ones that disturb me now. I was just trying to think of as many as I could. :)
ReplyDeleteI agree between the two Mitchells, Aidan wins hands down in a beauty pageant! I am so tired of all pretty people on my TV. I like "od" looking people that have a unique look and character. Not necessarily for every role , but at least for a few! All that said, most vampires would be pretty since their makers would not want some deformed spawn around for centuries.... granted. But ideals of beauty have changed so much in 200 years that what they called the ideal beauty then would be anything but nowadays.
ReplyDeleteI concede the point on sex appeal! It's no contest. I think the ideal is the US version actor that looks dangerous and animalistic, dangerous and appealing. I know some just want the pretty tho LOL
ReplyDeleteCompletely agree on Jason Lee! I like Memphis Beat somewhat, but he is btter in movies!
ReplyDeleteFringe capitalized on Nimoy's Sci-Fi cult icon status, but I agree... I would rather have some lesser known who was there for any episode they needed!
Clifton Collins Jr. is kind of boring in any role he does, but I always like his character honestly.
I think he does it well, for himself, I just can't see how he can go from the shield to that, maybe it's because I watched the shield first, but I really don't think he clicks in No Ordianry Family - espicially when he acts next to the pure godess that is Julie Benz :P
ReplyDeleteDon't talk about Jessica Capshaw that way :(
ReplyDeleteWhile I don't neccessarily see it that way, I want to thank you for giving an honest answer. I respect that. A lot of people would have gotten all defensive just because I asked. I guarantee if we were talking about Jensen Ackles, that I would have gotten so many negative reactions. I also like Julie Benz, but I wish they would do more with her character. The kids on the show don't look at all like they could be related to the rest of their family.
ReplyDeleteYa... none of them look like one another... in size shape coloring or build. Not unheard of , but it is nice to see some resemblance between at least 1 or 2 family members.
ReplyDeleteI agree absolutely about David Caruso - he makes me want to carve out my own intestines to strangle him with.
ReplyDeleteI would go for the soon to be classic 'pull of my eyeglasses, look sideways at him... and then shove the glasses wire rims thru his eyes!'
ReplyDeleteThank you - such a short comment and sooooo much fun :D
ReplyDeleteI felt like it deserved a sarcastic reply ;)
ReplyDeleteI think your right about Julie Benz, she's definately under used, to be honest, I think she thrives on really dramatic shows (Dexter was by far her best role) and, while I like No Ordinary Family, I don't think anyone could compare it to Dexter really.
ReplyDeleteOh i totally agree with you on season 1.....Not good Man......eek!!
ReplyDeleteI caught a season 1 episode.......They hadn't found their feet yet....but now......well they fit like a glove....and their chemistry is the best platonic chemistry around at the mo <333
'their makers would not want some deformed spawn around for centuries.
ReplyDeleteROFL......yeah def...but beauty is subjective too....Original Mitchell was not a looker by any standards but totally had me hot for him......Cause he had this sexual magnetism....Ya know <33
Yeah...i'll give it a go but....reluctantly.....Sorry but the americans have a habit of not getting british shows right....but MARK PELLIGRINO for the WIN!!!
ReplyDelete'Joseph Fiennes did have odd expressions at times. He seemed uncomfortable when he showed expression, but in a way it made him a little less bland as a character.'
ReplyDeleteJoseph "CAUSE I WAS LOADED....OK!!!" Fiennes was absolutely AWFUL.....every scene he was in looked like he was reading his script off the ground.......Ya can't have the the lead guy acting like that.....The actor loses his credibility and so does the show!!!
FLASHFORWARD:
ReplyDeleteJoseph "CAUSE I WAS LOADED....OK!!!" Fiennes was absolutely AWFUL.....every scene he was in looked like he was reading his script off the ground.......Ya can't have the the lead guy acting like that.....The actor loses his credibility and so does the show!!!
I love Ian, and the way he hams it up just makes the character more enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteBut I have to agree wholeheartedly on David Caruso. His method acting-if that's what it is-is just awful. They could put a robot in his place for all the emotion he shows.
Ray Langston on CSI. Nothing against Laurence Fishburne, but that character has done nothing for me since he joined the team.
ReplyDeleteJesse Williams (Jackson Avery) Grey's, character without interesting plot.
ReplyDeleteKevin McKidd (Owen Hunt) Grey's, just Cristina's fancy
My answer, in general, is an actor is miscast if one or more of his/her attributes is clearly different from those of the character. Chief among these is, accent. An example is Fringe's Australians. John Noble and Anna Torv do the best they can, but they don't sound American and I find it distracting. Not a single character on that show speaks like another, and they're supposed to have been living in the same area. Dad and son? Can't tell by me.
ReplyDeleteAnother characteristic is ethnicity. TV is getting much better now, but it used to be, if you needed an American Indian, go find an Italian. That being said, I totally loved Naveen Andrews' Sayid, but I suppose if I knew any Iraquis, I might find his British/Indian heritage more obvious.
Another is physical attributes. Needing to use makeup and hair dye to better resemble a character is just silly. Tobey Maguire had his hair dyed red for a movie, as did Matthew Fox, to play some guy named "Red."
My question when I see any of this nonsense: "Really. Couldn't you FIND one? Did you run out of American actors? Were there no Iraqui/Jewish/whatever actors around? No redheads?"
