Question of the Day - What are your Favourite 3 New Shows of 2010

3 Dec 2010

Today's Question of the Day is a fairly simple one.

What are you Favourite 3 New Shows of 2010

2010 has been a strange year for new TV shows. The networks have given us a load of new shows to try and enjoy and for the most part I'd have to say that they have been a little disappointing, and this fact is reflected in the low ratings and a number of shows already being cancelled and a number of them on the danger list.

For me my picks would be Nikita which was a lot better than I thought it would be along with The Event and No Ordinary Family. Also a mention to Hawaii Five-0 for being one of the few "reboots" to work IMHO.

But by far my favourite show this year is The Walking Dead.

The biggest disappointment for me has to be the much hyped JJ Abrams show, Undercovers, it never really caught my attention.

So which are your favourite 3 new shows this year? And which ones have left you disappointed?

Vote for your 3 in the Poll below and sound off in the comments. Have a missed any new shows?

Enjoy your weekend and I'll be back on Monday for another QOD.

  3. I voted:
    1) The Walking Dead - Because it's Brilliant, and the only new show I've bee religiously watching.
    2) Hawaii 5-0 - I've seen a few episodes here and there, and it looks like fun. Also showing my support for DDK!
    3) The Good Guys - Criminally Underrated, Surprisingly Funny and Entertaining. And I'm a big Bradley Whitford Fan.

  4. some of these shows could have been on my list if they hadnt been cancelled prematurely (Happy Town, The Gates)
The Walking Dead, Lost Girl , The Event, Nikita and Mike and Molly are the ones i watch
of those its kinda hard to choose just 3 but i'll take Lost Girl , The Walking Dead and The Event

    ReplyDelete
  5. I voted Boardwalk Empire, The Walking Dead and Justified.

I also watch(ed) Rubicon and The Event, though.

    ReplyDelete
  6. The Defenders
    Raising Hope
    No Ordinary Family
    - I like to add Shit My Dad Says too - It's actually pretty funny. I get to see it now in reruns.
    - I thought there would be more, but I didn't get to watch a lot of good other potential ones.

  7. I really like The Whole Truth and The Defenders as I'm actually new to the legal genre and find the interaction between the two lead characters rather amusing.

I'm one of the few who actually likes Running Wilde and find myself laughing a lot during the show at some of the stupidity.

Better With You also makes me laugh a fair amount and I like the interaction between the two characters dating the daughters.

Shit my Dad Says has been a bit hit and miss with me, sometimes the quotes fit in and sometimes they just feel like they have got the jokes before hand and then just put them in an order.

Haven't really been impressed by Raising Hope and can't really see what all the hype is about, I usually only lol a couple of times an episode.

Also watching The Event, but it's more out of hope that it will turn out to be good. I find it hard to give up on shows when I start them and this is what's drawing me back more than a gripping plot.

I only started watching Breaking Bad a few weeks ago so can that count too!?!?

  8. The Event and No Ordinary family on List. From Cable shows not on here also Pretty Little Liars.Since I
don't have HBO I am finding myself watching less and Less shows since the ones I do are canned(See
Happy Town,The Gates) and from List the only other new shows I have watched are Nikita and hawaii five-o

    ReplyDelete
  9. The Walking Dead Just keeps getting better and better. Can't wait for this weekend's season finale!
Happy Town was shaping up to be a really cool show. Even though it got cancelled I'm putting it on my top 3.
The Event... I watch it despite it being pretty crap (Sean and Leila are atrocious actors), but it has to come 3rd by default because I haven't actually watched any of the other shows on the list.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Justified, Nikita, The Walking Dead

    closely followed by Lost Girl.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Hawaii Five-0, No Ordinary Family and Raising Hope

    ReplyDelete
  12. Do you not remember "Emeril" or "Cavemen?"

    ReplyDelete
  13. The Walking Dead(not voteing this is retared, get your self some taste and stop watching brainless Supernatural).
    Boardwalk Empire
    Terriers

Also i would have voted The Defenders, Justified, Mike & Molly, and Louie if more choices.

i agree with u spoilergirl, my favorite new shows are Nikita, No Ordinary Family, and the Event. Altho of the 3 no ordinary family is probably my favorite, Julie benz + kay panabaker= 2 amazing hotties on one show!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Would have added Raising Hope and The Walking Dead if they'd made it top 5.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Rubicon! So good! Otherwise, NOF is mindless fun and The Event, though sometimes awful, can be really good.

I also really like Hawaii 5-0. I have only seen 2 episodes, but it's a LOT of fun! So much silliness and action!

SH!T my dad says on the other hand is the single most terrible thing I have ever watched. I LOVE William Shatner and not even he can make up for the awful supporting cast and terrible dialogue.

    ReplyDelete
  17. The Walking Dead was by far the best new show this year. Apart from that Louie proved to be very funny. But that's it, there was nothing else worth mentioning in my opinion. Maybe Rubicon would have been worth watching, but all the other shows I gave a try more or less sucked.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Lol, let me rephrase then.

It is the single worst show that showed promise - William Shatner! Being a jerk! How could this go wrong? - that is seemingly beloved in the ratings.

Seriously, it's getting a second season. You know what deserved another season? Rubicon. Caprica. Carnivale. Rome.

    ReplyDelete
  19. This is so hard to narrow down becuase of more than a handful very good new series! The Walking Dead is one of 3 for sure, but after that it gets murky. For sitcoms or comedy I LOVE The Big C,Mike & Molly and Shit My Dad Says, for drama I Love Boardwalk Empire, Blue Bloods, Justified, and Terriers, and for simple fun I love Hawaii Five-0, Lost Girl, and Nakita.
So I guess I will limit it to Walking Dead, Mike & Molly and Boardwalk Empire... but it's very hard to ignore the others I listed!

    ReplyDelete
  20. Okay, that is something I completely agree with.

    ReplyDelete
  21. -The Walking Dead: the storyline is so interesting and I love the characters. Def my fave new show of the year!
    Here are my favorites:

-Lost Girl: I love the action, suspense and romance in this. The characters and storyline are awesome and I love that we get to see cool supernatural creatures each week.
-Nikita: Love the action scenes and how each week we get to see Nikita go on different mission. Its always interesting to see how the mission will turn out
-Hellcats: Its pretty addictive. I like thats its more than just cheerleading and I love the whole Dan/Marti/Savannah love triangle thats going on.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Honestly after Mike & Molly I thought Shat My Dad Says was the best new comedy by far. Leaps and bounds beyond Raising Hope or Outsourced, and well above Better with You (although I do like that show too). Many people have panned or outright hated Shit My Dad Says, but with it pulling in 10 million viewers a week, obviously there are a lot of people that agree with me. I watched it expecting it to be terrible after so many strong hate reviews, but the more I watch it the more I like it.

I can't argue with Rome, Rubicon, or Carnivale needing more seasons at all. I completely agree! Caprica I tried watching since I LOVED BSG, but it never drew me in or entertained me.

    ReplyDelete
  23. The Top 3 are with no doubts:

    - The Walking Dead
    - Boardwalk Empire
    - Rubicon

Also, I would have voted if there were more choice: Justified and Raising Hope.

    ReplyDelete
  24. ha ha! Speaking of brainless, what the hell is, "retared"? Did you mean "retarded"?

    ReplyDelete
  25. I forgot about Louie. He's one of the best comdedians alive. The episode when he got high with his neighbor was my favorite.

    ReplyDelete
  26. The Event is starting to feel like season 4 of Heroes and season 4 of Prison Break mixed with Flashforward. I don't know why I bothered to watch it at all.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I think comedy gets people differently. I think we all have different senses of humor based on what we can relate to.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Cover Affairs The Defenders The Glades.

    ReplyDelete
  29. It sucks that i don't have the channel that the Walking Dead appears on

    ReplyDelete
  30. My Picks (in order):
    Lost Girl
    Spartacus (not on the list)
Haven (also not on the list)

I voted for Lost Girl and Walking Dead. So far Walking Dead is just the British show Survivors with zombies thrown in, but hopefully the actual story will start getting interesting soon now that they have established the characters and setting. Too bad there is only one episode left this season. Do we know when season 2 will start? Hopefully sooner than next Fall.

    ReplyDelete
  31. The Walking Dead, Justified, and Nikita!!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Not only is it in the Fall next year, but it's October at the earliest! EEEEK.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Dude, that sucks. The Walking Dead kicks ass. Pun intended.

    ReplyDelete
  34. HA! We've got the same three shows!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Although The Walking Dead is hands down my favourite new show, I voted for others figuring it would get a lot of votes without my own.

    Voted for:

Boardwalk Empire, Rubicon, and Terriers, all of which are brilliant.

Unfortunately most people wouldn't know good TV if it hit them in face so shows like Terriers and Rubicon get canceled when garbage Shit My Dad Says, NCIS, The Big Bang Theory & Two & a Half Men thrive

    ReplyDelete
  36. Terriers is pretty good. It hasn't been canceled, has it? Hopefully not...

    ReplyDelete
  37. I love all the shows you call brilliant and 3/4s the shows you call garbage. I guess I have a widw range of tolerance! LOL

    ReplyDelete
  38. Not cancelled, but not renewed. read somewhere Donal Logue wants to take a camper around college campus and try to drum up support for the show to save it. Let's hope it gets picked up before he needs to do that!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Hopefully, it gets another season.
    Thanks for responding.

    ReplyDelete
  40. 1. The Walking Dead 2. & 3 None I still watch a few other new shows but I wouldn't care if they get cancelled. The only new show I care about this season is the Walking Dead.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Brainless Supernatural? So Supernatural is a show for Zombies? Brains, yummy!

    ReplyDelete
  42. I'm giving THE EVENT the benefit of the doubt. It needs to step up it's pace on the story line a bit. It has a great potential. Will just see if the writers are up to the task.

I record Hawaii-50 to my DVR. Its more enjoyable when the commercials are edited out otherwise it seems 'choppy'. The story lines are just not original.

I really cannot pick a third.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Can I pick The Walking Dead for your third choice? : )

    ReplyDelete
  44. Them's fightin' words them is...... :P

I did vote the Walking Dead. I do have great taste and I do watch Supernatural (brainless or not)

    ReplyDelete
  45. I can't choose just three from that list, LOL! Mike and Molly, The Whole Truth, Hawaii Five-0, Better With You, The Walking Dead, and Boardwalk Empire!

    ReplyDelete
  46. My 3 Faves:
The Walking Dead, Rubicon, and Raising Hope.

I'd add Justified to the list but I missed almost the whole season.

My Big Disappointment: The Event. So effing uneventful I literally just stopped watching. I NEVER stop watching a tv show until it just outright makes me feel like I'm wasting my time. I mean, I freakin' made it through 3 seasons of Heroes... O.o

    ReplyDelete
  47. OMFG this is EXACTLY what I was thinking about The Event! I made it through the first 3 seasons of Heroes (Barely) and then Season 4 came and I frickn' high-tailed it out of there...

    ReplyDelete
  48. Your inability to post a coherent comment on this site coupled with your ironically horribly-phrased insult regarding Supernatural immediately voids your credibility. Supernatural is anything but brainless. It's probably one of the smartest shows on network television.

    Have a nice day. :)

    ReplyDelete
  49. Justified is, so far, one of my favorite new shows. It's between that and Human Target (which one could call a new show as it appeared in January of 2010).

I've also enjoyed Nikita (more than I expected to) and The Good Guys. Persons Unknown could have been great but ended up being a disaster.

And it's only new to American audiences, but I adore Law & Order: UK.

    ReplyDelete
  50. without doubt my vote will go to The Walking Dead & Lost Girl & Pretty Little Liars <3333
most impressive shows of 2010 that keep u wanting mooooooore with each episode ...

    ReplyDelete
  51. I love Hawaii Five-0.

Can you believe that Grace Park is 36 years old?

    ReplyDelete
  52. The Walking Dead has been amazing, but I have to say that I like Terriers a little bit more. That show is absolutely perfect, from cast to story to humor. Too bad it'll probably get cancelled, but I do like how they left the season.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Are you serious? Wow, she does not look that old.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Seriously, I couldn't believe it either. She was born in '76.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Ooh, also forgot about Raising Hope! Love that show.

    ReplyDelete
  56. The only two of those shows that I watch are Hawaii Five-0 and Outsourced. I enjoy Outsourced, but H50 is my favorite new show. I have to admit that I've become a bit obsessed with it. I've heard good things about The Walking Dead. I want to check that out too, as soon as the semester is over after next week. I'm planning to catch up over the break from school.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Hawaii five-0 is the only new show I have watched this season and I love it.

    ReplyDelete
  58. Donal Logue and Michael Raymond-James actually already did the college campus tour. They were trying to get more supporters *while* the show was airing, not after the season ended, haha. FX is supposed announce whether the show is cancelled or renewed sometime next week.

    Anyway, my 3 are:
    1. Terriers
    2. Rubicon
    3. a tie between Boardwalk Empire and The Walking Dead

    ReplyDelete
  59. The Walking Dead, Hawaii Five-O and Blue Bloods. I'd probably also like Boardwalk Empire, but I don't have HBO.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Raising Hope hands down! It's one of the best new shows this season, and is absolutely hilarious and sweet at the same time. Then I would say The Big C, but I couldn't vote for it because I didn't see it listed. Maybe I overlooked it.

    ReplyDelete
  61. Surely you're talking about Volume 4 of Heroes, right? Volume 4 of Heroes, which was part of Season 3 was absolutely atrocious (though still somehow slightly better than Volume 3...). Season 4 of Heroes was actually pretty good and close to Season 1 quality, if not better in certain areas.

    ReplyDelete
  62. I really want a superhero show that doesn't constantly disappoint me like Heroes, Smallville, and No Ordinary Family. These shows have some great episodes, but overall bore me and sometimes just piss me off. Hopefully The Cape will be better.

    ReplyDelete
  63. I haven't ever seen Rubicon. I agree with so many comments you post, so I assume I might like that show too.

    ReplyDelete
  64. WRONG! Don't wait. Forget school. Go. Watch it now!

Just kidding, but yes, it is that good.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Can you watch it online?

    ReplyDelete
  66. You must spend a lot of time watching TV. (I'm jealous)

    ReplyDelete
  67. don't forget Autumn Reeser.

    ReplyDelete
  68. Happy Town got "F'd in the A" before it even had a chance.

    ReplyDelete
  69. The Walking Dead and Hawaii 5-0

    ReplyDelete
  70. Ha! Well I did read it a while ago, so I guess the story was not lying. lol It deserves a second seson! Much better than 75 of the series on TV.

    ReplyDelete
  71. The first 4-5 episodes of Rubicon were so downplayed I thought I might be wasting my time, but it sort've picks up hafway through, and then the last 3-4 episodes are absolutely phenomenal. Definitely worth checking out, but they REALLY don't spell things out for you...you gotta pay attention to every detail...I was lost all season lol

    ReplyDelete
  72. Wait. Something's off with your math...
If it was 1976, I'd think she'd be 34 years old...

    ReplyDelete
  73. I'm hoping the Chicago Code changes all that next year. I'd love a good cop show that isn't a CSI bore-of-the-week show... something more like The Shield (which came from the same people as the Chicago Code)...

    ReplyDelete
  74. I LOVED The Shield and think it was one of the best shows on TV in the last decade, but I am not sure it was JUST Shawn Ryan. He has been in charge in Lie To Me for the last year or so and it has been terrible to me. I love Terriers that he produces, but that is not the same as The Shield either. All that being said, I hopeThe Chicago Code is good too! I love Delroy Lindo, Jason Clarke and Jennifer Beals. Maybe the magic will strike twice with good actors and a cop show and Shawn Ryan.

    ReplyDelete
  75. I think for that type of show it is really good. I like the actors quite well. My only problem is that type of show bores me after a while. Crime shows are just way too unoriginal and repetitive for me.

    ReplyDelete
  76. The Walking Dead by far, then Terriers and The Glades (much because I haven't seen most of the shows mentioned on this poll)

    ReplyDelete
  77. Not been overly impressed with any of the new shows tbh, walking dead is probably the best of an average bunch.

    ReplyDelete
  78. The Walking Dead, Raising Hope, and The Event. I liked Rubicon. Too late, huh?

    ReplyDelete
  79. The shows where you gotta pay attention are usually the best. That's one reason I like Fringe and Lost so much. I'm gonna check it out during the midseason break.

    ReplyDelete
  80. It would take a lot for me to stay interested in a cop show. I've started to watch many, only to lose interest after about 3 to 5 episodes. I was liking Hawaii 5-0 at first, but episodes started filling up DVR space and I didn't have a hard time letting it be the first to go when I needed space for the Walking Dead. In hindsight, I should have gotten rid of the Event instead.

    ReplyDelete
  81. I agree that law and cop shows get repetitive. Generally the same format EVERY week... there is a crime in cop shows the detectives try to catch the bad guy and in law shows the attorneys try to convict or defend the accused. The end. Week after week. Rubicon, and The Walking Dead too for that matter, are not the same week to week. Rubicon in particular one has to watch closely and recall things, because they will not point them out again like many shows. They tend to assume since the character saw something, did something or thought something that the character will recall it later so why waste time showing it again... and inattentive viewer be damned! lol. IT did start off slowly but built all the way to the finale... the finale opinions vary tho.

    ReplyDelete
  82. I work mostly from my home so I have a lot of time to watch TV as I do things. Except for the good shows that deserve my full attention. Plus honestly I DVR or record a lot on SageTV so having no commercials saves time... 16-20 minutes a show! It's like watching 3 and getting one free!

    ReplyDelete
  83. I agree I liked season 4 quite a bit actually More well constructed than season 1 was in many ways, but maybe not as interesting to some for whatever reason.

    ReplyDelete
  84. I think there needs to be a hero show made by HBO or Showtime... maybe AMC. The networks tend to ruin all genres of series so why should superheroes be any different?

    ReplyDelete
  85. I will definitely check it out soon.

    ReplyDelete
  86. I work the late shift for an evil corporation so I DVR pretty much everything that I watch. I stay up way too late sometimes watching the stuff I recorded. During the day I watch a lot of cartoons with my daughter. So I spend way too much, if not all, of my free time watching TV.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Daniel,

Most certainly you can have my third choice.

    ReplyDelete
  88. I think another problem for superhero shows is that superhero movies are still too trendy.

To quote Brodie from Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back: "Well, after X-Men hit at the box office, all the studios started buying up every comic property they could get their hands on."

If the Batman movies weren't so big, I could see AMC or HBO doing a great Batman series. Comics like Xmen have so many characters and would require so much special effects, that it would too expensive as a show. I'd like to see something like Judge Dredd, The Flash, Wonder Woman, or Dr. Strange turned into a series. Something that revolves around only one or a few characters would probably be easier to produce and easier to follow. Pretty much all of the others that I can think of have already been made into movies recently.

    ReplyDelete
  89. Not a comic fan so I don't know half the names you just ran off! lol, but I would love to see a Brodyman series! I miss the days when Jason Lee was sardonic and snarky and actually funny!

"The food court is downstairs. The cookie stand is upstairs. It not like we're talking quantum physics here. "

    ReplyDelete
  90. I now get the screen name! Well the good thing about TV is once you have the TV, the cable or satellite, the comfortable chairs, the DVR or PC to record... well after that TV doesn't cost anything. I too am up too late with TV or books or just anything to distract me from insomnia.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I'm enjoying No Ordinary Family so far (though it does go out of its way to be a family-oriented drama at times). In fact, it's one of the few shows on right now that I look forward to seeing how it progresses.

Do you have any specific complaints about it?

    ReplyDelete
  92. The only ones listed that I'm watching/watched are No Ordinary Family, The Event, The Walking Dead, and Happy Town (and I accidentally caught the first episode of Better With You). The Event just beats out Happy Town, so NOF, The Event, and The Walking Dead win my votes by default.

    ReplyDelete
  93. I don't really read comics either, I just know of them from reading about them, video games, and cartoons.

Although I liked My Name is Earl, I do think Jason Lee was at his best when he worked with Kevin Smith. He was great in Mallrats, Chasing Amy, and Dogma.

I think Kevin Smith should make a Clerks TV show, or something like it. And I don't mean another crappy cartoon.

    ReplyDelete
  94. No, I was just generalizing and didn't mean to include it. For what it is, it isn't bad. But what I want is a superhero show that is deep and entertaining, and not afraid to push the limits of its genre. I do respect the fact that No Ordinary Family remains family oriented. There isn't much on TV these days that a family can watch together comfortably.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Pffft... The Walking Dead is family fun for all ages... just make sure to set aside some cash for the psychiatric care for the pre-teens after...

    ReplyDelete
  96. Yep. As far as I know, hulu.com has it.

    ReplyDelete
  97. The walking dead, Boardwalk... and FRINGE (new to me cause i started watching it since LOST ended and LOVE it!) hehe

    ReplyDelete
  98. I was asking if Taryn Groves had the capability of watching online. I have AMC so I'm good to go.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Rizzoli & Isles which wasnt listed, Nikita and Rookie Blue

    ReplyDelete
  100. My sentiments exactly regarding The Event. I like it enough to keep watching, but it wobbles a bit. I agree there's great potential but the writers need to infuse it with a tonic of sorts if they want to hold on to me as a viewer.

    ReplyDelete
  101. BRANDII ALIZE' HAYNES-WRIGHT8 December 2010 at 03:38

    Hawaii Five-0, Blue Bloods

    ReplyDelete
  102. Seems like everytime I get into a show it gets canceled after one or two seasons. I was really rooting for Dark Blue-hope they keep The Good Wife & Supernatural. I watched Smallville for ten seasons and would keep
watching it in any form it takes-spin-off:movie-mini-series. I just get too attached to some shows and it bugs
me when they are gone. I still watch "Angel " episodes!

    ReplyDelete
  103. I thought they should have ended Carnivale better.

    ReplyDelete
  104. My son who was 8 at the time grew up on smallville-he's 19 and we still go back
and watch episodes together. The first 4 years of smallville were quite different than
thet are now. I like all the years-maybe not every episode, but that is how it is with any long-
    running series.

    ReplyDelete
  105. The Big C is so awesome.

    ReplyDelete
  106. I cant pick 3! I was very satisfied with the new stuff.. I am an avid CBS follower and they are having a great year :D

My new shows are: The Glades, Mike and Molly, Hawaii five-O, Rookie Blue, Pretty Little Liars (wasn't this a new show for this year? not sure why it isn't on the list.) Sh!t my dad says and Covert Affairs.

    haha so that's more than 3 ^-^;;

    ReplyDelete
  107. Did anyone other than me like Rookie Blue?
