Question of the Day - How much TV to do you typically watch a week?

Dec 8, 2010

Very simple question Today.

How much TV to do you typically watch a week?

Do you find yourself watching more or less TV than you did a year ago? Do you think that in time you'll spend more or less time with TV.

Are other mediums such as the Internet taking up more of your time?

  2. I watch less TV than I used to; however, I usually TiVo my favorite shows (Castle, Fringe, Big Bang Theory, and Dr. Who) and then replay them more than once. I've found that I have better things to do with my time than watch shows I only have a marginal interest in, and there are two days out of the week where I don't even bother to turn on the tube. I'm working my way through the complete DVD sets of Buffy and Battlestar, and would rather rewatch the entire Firefly series than just about anything else currently airing.

  3. Seeing as I watch all my television shows online now, I'd say 0 hours ;)

  6. It depends on the week, if there are reruns, hiatus or something like that, but usually I easily watch over 40 hrs of TV shows per week.

  9. On average 30 hrs. It used to be a lot more. It's just harder to find what's on even with the internet.

  10. my average is 6-10 hrs .. & I find myself watching more shows than last year & I think I'll watch more next year ..

  11. Well are we including DVDs and BDs to TV shows currently airing? Egad...adding in news,documentaries,sports...

    I plead the 5th!

  12. I watch 5 shows this season and mostly tivo them and watch everything on the weekends. And then I usually watch a crime show to unwind when I get home from work. Reruns of Numb3rs if I can get them. ;)

It differs from season to season. 5 shows a week is actually a lot for me. I used to be a 1-2 shows kinda girl. But in recent years it just seems like the quality of the television shows I've involved myself in has been really up and down. So now I start a little wider at the beginning of the season, and then if I loose a couple along the way it doesn't matter.

  13. I'm so... impressed by how many of us watch that much television!

It makes sense given that we're all hanging around on SpoilerTV discussion boards.

I want to say that I watch that much television, but it's simply not possible with my course load. Not to mention the fact that it's currently the exam period so I'm even more behind on my television watching.

Still, that being said, I follow something like 24 television shows (someone above me said 31! Holy crap!) and I manage to get through every single show each week. Maybe I watch more than I assume I do...?

Also, time needs to go towards reading and video games (obviously lol).

  14. For me it's 6-10......call me picky but there's not really much that grabs (and holds) my interest. Having said that, I will admit to watching Supernatural dvds every morning while I'm exercising - so that would add another hmmmm.......few......hours a week to my viewing. What can I say - I never tire of perfection :P

  15. I'm on a bit of a low number atm. Not got into any of the new shows as much. The Office repeats and the odd Hawaii 5-0 push it up when Fringe and House isn't on :P

  16. 5-6 hrs. I watched more last season.

  17. I'm abstaining from participation in poll on the grounds that there's no available selection for "too damn much."

  18. It's a little difficult to say how many I watch since seasons are so confusing these days. 28 or so with 6 that are ending or just ended this week. But then another 5+ start next month... not mentioning new series premiering as mid-season replacements. Then have to add in the shows from other countries (Canada & UK) I watch after DL or buying DVDs. I guess id say I probably watch 55-60 shows total. Maybe 15-20 are short seasons from cable or CTV, BBC,ITV etc....Usually never more than 35 or so are on at any point during the year ... excluding when a new season starts and I try to catch as many as possible to judge fairly. To be honest of those shows maybe 10 I absently half watch as I clean house or work. Still.... A LOT more than I realized. I'm not sure I should be impressed with myself or depressed with myself! LOL

  21. me 0-5 hours, yes I know not so much.
We don't have pretty good shows on tv in the Netherlands xD
Or I watch repeats with Dutch subs.
Mostly I see tv shows on my laptop. Better quality and when I want ;)

  22. hmmm.. i picked 6-10 for an average week where there aren't random hiatuses. I didn't count any shows that are on really really really long hiatus since technically i'm not watching it NOW.

What also shortens it for me is the fact that i download all my shows. I must also ask, does randomly rewatching old shows count? Because i didn't count them. Sometimes i sit at my computer and just decide "hey i'm bored, i'll just rewatch that episode of ________ where __________ happens" which happens more often than i'd like :(

And also, my friends often give me a whole box set of something they thing its good and its a few seasons in, and since i'm on mega holidays, i'm allowed to be a total slob that does everything in front of the laptop (yes, i'm another one of those people who haven't touched the actual tv in years). That of course gives crazy totals of 40+ hours a week.

... lets just say there are no typical weeks. i should've followed Bruce_F's example and abstained from voting.

  23. I watch probably a quarter of my shows from my PC to my TV via SageTV. I think watching TV shows counts as watching TV even if it is on a PC or portable player etc. But I hear you when it comes to DVDs or old episodes you crave... I have no idea if they should count or not!!

  24. loads...with all the DVRs and packed weekends....way too much....26-30

It's about the same as last year.

My internet usage doesn't interrupt my tv time because I surf (and read) while watchign TV

  25. i was thinking, to make myself feel better about the "spikes" in my tv watching, i just observe it as a "abnormality" (that happens more often than is healthy). LETS PRETEND IT DOESN'T COUNT SO I FEEL LIKE I STILL HAVE A LIFE.

  26. A year ago, I was working a couple of part time jobs after a full time work so i really don't watch a lot of TV. But now I think it'll be around 26-30 hours the most. I guess I spent most of my time browsing the web.
