Season 1 > season 2 >>> season 4 > season 5 > season 3. I think the first two seasons are masterpieces, and after that Dexter started to be just a very good entertainment but they never did better than season 1 and 2.
Season 1 was just perfect, season 2 close behind, then it gets a bit tricky. I didn't enjoy season 4 as much as a lot of other people did, it was really slow paced most of the time and even though the finale and John Lithgow as big bad were awesome, I prefered season 3. Can't judge how good season 5 was. I watched the first 4 or 5 episodes and then decided to wait till the finale and then watch the rest on the next weekend. So you might be able to guess what I'm going to do this Saturday and Sunday.
Season 2 is definitely my favorite. The Bay Harbor Butcher will always be one of the best storyline I've ever seen. For me is Season 2 > Season 1 >>>>> Season 4 > Season 3 >>>> Season 5
Season 1 and 2 are great, season 3 is good but not great, did not like season 4 but the final 2 episode did save it from beening the worst and John Lithgrow is so good in it, help improve overall
Season 5 is worst, no new info on Dexter as a character, also lots of silly subplots to fill in space for supporting cast, particular in the first half
Season 4 for me, very closely followed by 2 then 1. Trinity and Lundy are my favourite two guest stars and having both of them in S4 made the whole season very tense, which is what I love about the show. Doakes is probably the character I miss the most, his story with Dex was just fantastic :D
Season 1 was epic and most pale in comparison. I think season 4 and season 5 were tied for second best, but for VERY different reasons. Four was awesome because of the big bad Lithgow Trinity Killer. The dynamic with Dexter was palpable. This season Lumen .. ahem... illuminated many aspects of Dexter that we had never seen before.. Dare I say that HE had never seen them before. I liked seeing the evolution of character. The analytical mind only living a "normal life" to hide the Dark Passenger before has evolved into possibilities of actually finding connection with some one. That at its core changes who and what Dexter is for me.... in a very good way!!!
I think we got more info on Dexter this year than ever before honestly. It was not info on his back story, but info on who he is now, who he is evolving into and who he is allowing himself to become. His actions this year were not just visceral killing machine, but they all gave insight into who he is and in a far more dynamic way.
4 was my favourite. 1, 2, and 5 are all very close for 2nd place. 3 was my least-favourite by miles: I actually gave up and had to come back to it later.
Andy, please can you make a poll on favourite characters (other than Dexter)?
WOW. I loved the third season, but not as much as the fourth. To me the fourth is perfect. John Lithgow was outstanding and what made the season all the more perfect was the fact that Rita died at the end. Then season 1, I mean the Ice Truck Killer being his brother was way :o. Season 3, i found Jimmy Smitts to be a great monster. Then the second season and finally the fifth. I mean I didn't hate the fifth season i found it very informative on who Dexter has become and I actually enjoyed Lumen's character, but to me the ending placed it in my last spot. Lumens decision was so out of character, all season long she accepted him and in the end to be all "i've got to go, today" was kind of WTF? and the rapid death of such a great psycho like Jordan Chase was a bit of a let down. let's pray next season is better. WAY better.
NOTE: Name-calling, personal attacks, spamming, excessive self-promotion, condescending pomposity, general assiness, racism, sexism, any-other-ism, homophobia, acrophobia, and destructive (versus constructive) criticism will get you BANNED from the party.

ReplyDeleteI did not like Doakes exactly, but he was definitely a better foil to Dexter than Quinn!
ReplyDelete1st season, then 4th, then 5th and 2nd, and on the bottom the 3rd.
ReplyDelete5 > 2 > 1 > 4 > 3
ReplyDeleteSeason 2. Crazy-as-hell Lila West and Doakes. That season was completely insane and Jaime Murray was fantastic in every possible way.
ReplyDeleteI'm...confused! :O
ReplyDeleteThis, just maybe five and three not SO much lower. Five was a big disappointment for me.
ReplyDelete4 was my favourite. 1, 2, and 5 are all very close for 2nd place. 3 was my least-favourite by miles: I actually gave up and had to come back to it later.

Season 2 is what got me hooked. I would rank them in similar positions. 2 > 1 >> 4 > 5 > 3
ReplyDeleteI was gonna go for season 1....cause ya know the whole brother aspect was shocking/cool and the show was new.......But i went for season 4......
ReplyDeleteTRINITY KILLER.......WOW!!
JOHN LITHGOW.....i bow down to your AWSOMENESS <3333
