  1. One of the most controversial endings ever.

  4. Bit of a let down after season endings past. More poignant than action. One of the first Dexter season's that I can recall off the top of my head that completely ties everything up in a bow. Usually there is some lingering subplot that carries over. Quinn and Deb are ok, Quin and Dex are ok, Laguerta and Batista are ok, Lumen has her closure and is gone. Dexter has learned he can connect and care only to have it ripped away not by murder or death, but by choice. I found the last 10 minutes or so to be very anticlimactic, but I guess they needed to let you nto Dexter's mind and show his pain. Overall just good for me.

  5. I agree. They kept her alive so there is some chance she may turn up again, but Dexter doesn't usually have people come back... Then again they are usually dead and unable to come back.

  6. man...lumen is gone wow...that sucks major ass. but ...she was healed....fixed no longer broken thanks to dexter's help. i definitely enjoyed the episode from beginning to end, in conclusion this episode halts at that same wall...where dexter ( the dark passenger) is once again alone and i can't help but think if he'll ever truly find a place for himself beside someone else who knows and can accepts dexter for all he is. What options are left for him, lumen saying to dex that "that's who he is" does that mean dexter will forever be...broken..i confuse myself over thinking it. oh well....on to next season!!

  7. I honestly think this was the best way to end it for next season...After season 4's finale, trying to do something that big again in the finale with a cliffhanger like Lumen or someone's death would just be cliche' and probably ineffective. I think that I needed a good ending for the temporary fix, so that next season they can unload on us again. Having said that I was really surprised that they actually did wrap it up nicely...For some reason I was expecting something to happen as Dexter and Lumen were on the boat smiling as they headed towards shore, because it was too good to be true. Obviously it wasn't nearly as good as last season's but it was just what I needed, I'd say. It gives the writers a chance to do whatever they want instead of having to make a decision for next season in THIS season's finale.

  8. Wow! Talk about giving the writers a blank check for next season. Nothing to tie up or fix. No kids to worry about, no Lumen, nobody after Dex. Talk about an absolute dream to write. They can do anything they want. People are complaining about the absence of a cliffhanger, but nothing about the clean slate we are getting next season. I can't wait for next season!! If we keep getting actors/actresses from canceled series as good as what we got from the Eli Stone wreckage, I'll keep subscribing to Showtime! Without Dexter, I would not sign up for Showtime. Keep up the good work!

  9. I'm really liking the Dexter / Quin dynamic and look forward to more of it. Great episode. Lol thought for sure Lumen was going to say she was pregnant but think it is for the best. Her dieing or staying (after hooking up so quickly) would have been to cliche after losing Rita last season.

  10. I thought it was a very good finale given the context of the season. Lumen's entire reason for staying with Dexter was to seek revenge on Jordan and his gang. Sure, it may have turned into something more, but she and Dexter accomplished their goal and took Jordan down. We all knew we weren't going to get a shocking finale like we did last year, and the fact that the writers have a clean slate to work with next season is perfect as they can pretty much do whatever they want. It's a shame Lumen has to leave though, I really was starting to like her character and the dynamic her and Dexter could have now that the rapists are gone could have been really interesting. At least she isn't dead like everyone else on this show so there's room for her to return eventually. The wait for next season will be the death of me.

  11. @ Dark UFO the episode was called "The Big One" Not "Through a Glass, Darkly" as for the episode was such a letdown i found the episode very dull although i am glad lumen is out of the picture i couldn't stand her and hope she never comes back

  12. I hated that Lumen left. I agree the chemistry between the two could have really been amazing. I loved the last scene between them. However, I wish there was more closure to her character. I hope she returns next season, even if it was for a couple episodes.

I am kind of perplexed though for next season. I really hoped Lumen would stay on. While the first season was great I would like something different rather than Dex going back to kill after kill. However, Deb's last line I though was really interesting, “I’m happy. You must be too. Now that this is all over, I mean.” I can't help but think that she knows that Dex may have something to do with it. Quinn obviously knows that Dex had something to do with Liddy, so that should be interesting.

  13. I am glad at that they didn't kill Lumen off, it would be too much if another person he cared deeply about got killed off right after Rita. I am really happy that they ended it the way they did, it was crazy the way they ended last year and if you have been really paying attention to this season, it was about Dexter finding some type of closure and understanding of life after he experienced the horrific death of Rita. Next season is going to be amazing and I am excited to see all of the different things they are going to throw at Dexter.

  14. More reflection on this episode and I am liking it a little bit more. I think this was almost a transitional year for Dexter... the man and the seres. Dexter has to deal with the shake up of Rita's death... how it affected him (or did not), how it affected "his" kids, the people at his work. He had to reassess himself and how he and the dark passenger fit. Lumen was the perfect catalyst for this. He felt connection to another living human being unlike he had ever felt before, true emotion and not a level of contentment or comfort. The irony of it all is best summed up Astor. She asked earlier in the season if by helping his tenant Lumen he was helping himself deal with losing Rita. She asked it again just a few episodes later and the viewer knows that the relationship with Lumen (and her leaving) may actually have left him worse off than Rita's death emotionally. The entire season it seemed as if Lumen was a salve to heal some of Dexter's emotional wounds and while she may have healed some in a temporary manner.... she left him with a raw gaping hole that was not part of the initial injury.

  16. OMG what a fucking awful episode. I've hated this season, but this ending was just TOO bad.

  17. This was a different season. Ever year there has been a big bad or some antagonist that we got to know and was the main foil of the season, This year the new character we got to know was not a bad guy Dexter was planning on killing, it was Lumen. IT completely changed the dynamic of the series. It became more about dexter and less about the people he was going after. Lumen was a reflection of Dexter at times and at other times they used her as a way to highlight the changes with in Dexter. For me it was my second or third favorite season after season 1... possibly tied with lst year even. I liked seeing more into Dexter's mind than some random bad guy of the season.

  18. I seriously couldn't care less about the lack of Villain, it's just that all the storylines have been awful, and the Dexter character has been changed too much, that now it's just unrecognizable. Lumen character was weak, written poorly and acted by Julia Styles even worse.

  19. I would have prefered that Deb found out the truth about Dexter so season 6 could be all about that and at the same time, be the last.
