Cancelled Shows Law and Order SVU NCIS SpoilerTV ArticleTV shows seem to be dying young after Law & Order ended in it's 20th season last year. and shows outside of CBS & the CW are dying even younger.
First place
The oldest scripted show left on US TV (excluding animations & daytime Soaps) is Law and Order SVU in it's 12th season which may end this season due to cast contracts expiring and a desire to end the show.

2 and half men is renewed only through next season (it's 9th) not season 10.
ReplyDeleteYeah... I'm pretty sure Doctor Who is the longest running scripted show.
ReplyDeleteit says US shows
ReplyDeletethx
ReplyDeleteI'm pretty sure you can only count the current Doctor Who (2005) series under currently airing... So it will have been on what ...5 or 6 years now? Hard to consider it to be a uninterrupted series since it only had 1 episode in 15 years. The original run ended at 26 seasons. Damn impressive either way!
ReplyDeleteI wonder why they do not include daytime soap operas? Some of them have been on 50 years or so and they are scripted I think. Maybe it is a primetime list?
ReplyDeleteyep listed in the post too many daytime soaps
ReplyDeleteHa! I skimmed right over that bit to get to the info... oops.
ReplyDeleteI wanted to add, re: 2 and a Half Men that even with its huge ratings in both viewers and 18-49, a lot depends on Charlie Sheen's sobriety and willingness to keep the show going. As I recall over the summer, it was touch and go for several weeks but CBS did make it clear that without Sheen, Jon Cryer is not a big enough name to keep the show going.
ReplyDeleteWell, besides Entourage it's pretty much only crap.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, you forgot Curb your Enthusiasm, which is probably the best comedy currently running. In 2011, LD's show will enter his 8th season. Curb your Enthusiasm is in production since 2000 (since 1999 if you include the TV movie), so technically it actually is the oldest scripted US TV show currently running.
thx added
ReplyDeleteOne Tree Hill might come to an end? I was not a fan of the first three or four seasons of the show but came to like it when it transitioned to a more matured storyline.
ReplyDeleteThank god, L&O: CI is ending!
ReplyDelete-does a jig-
..
O_o;
I honestly can't picture NCIS going off the air anytime soon. Not with the consistent 20 million+ viewers week after week, and reports from the cast loving every minute of their work on the show. My bet would be that NCIS surpasses it's predecessor (JAG) with having atleast 10+ seasons. Hell, even on reruns of episodes, NCIS manages to bring in over 15 million viewers.
ReplyDeleteNCIS in its 8 season is better then ever. The writing is creative and it never gets boring. I say that it can go to about 10 or 11 seasons and still have a strong following. The writers and cast are just that good!
ReplyDeleteYep, I think it's Primetime only.
