Get ready to say goodbye to Gossip Girl as we know it.The show's not closing shop just yet, but Leighton Meester tells me she already knows when she'll be exiting the hit prime-time soap...
"Two more years," she told me yesterday at the Four Seasons in Beverly Hills, while promoting her new movie, Country Strong.
Why then? "Because we're under contract," she said matter-of-factly.
While Meester said she "obviously enjoys working on the show and living in New York," she also explained that producers and the network have been more understanding than ever before about Leighton and her costars taking time off or jiggering schedules in order to pursue other projects, particularly movies. "It allows you to be ready for when the show's over," she said.
Will the entire series end in two years, too? "I don't know," Meester said, "but I think there's that old saying about wanting to go out on top."

They're actually contracted through Season 7, so the show could run 3 more years...and probably will as long as the CW stays afloat.

ReplyDeleteIt was, if I remember, a word for word copy of the original, I will continue watching for a while. But the acting in the original was outstanding, they need to up their game if I am going to stick around for repeats with different accents! Plus it was a much nicer house and area that they lived in compared to the original. I didnt get the feel that they were scummy at all from the first episode.
ReplyDeleteThe show won't last when Ed and Leighton leave. They're the reason why most people watch. They're the actors/characters that draw us in and keep us watching. I have no interest in watching the show after they leave. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteI think 6 years, if the show lasts that long, is good amount of time. Shows like this don't have a long shelf life so I don't see it going beyond that.
