Bird Dog - Eliza Dushku drops out of upcoming TV pilot

Misc ShowsThanks to Bruce F for the following:
That was fast.
After less than a week on board as the star of TNT's "Bird Dog" pilot, Eliza Dushku is officially out.
The actress told fans directly, via Twitter, on Dec. 6: "Hey guys! News to report~ We have mutually & AMICABLY decided to part ways on "Bird Dog" due to creative differences. No worries/fears/tears."
Well, it's nice to know that neither party is crying in their coffee over this one, but you have to wonder how spectacularly big those differences had to be for Dushku to drop out so soon.
As we previously reported, "Bird Dog" follows a woman (who Dushku was originally cast to play) who becomes a police officer, only to be partnered with her estranged father.
Any thoughts on who you'd like to step into Dushku's shoes -- or did your interest begin and end with her involvement?

I think the only reason is she has said recently that she would love to be on Comedy recently.
ReplyDeleteI don't think she should I can't see her in comedy
I'm glad.
ReplyDeleteI can't see Dushku in some generic cop show. She's a genre actress.
I'm not really sold on Eliza's acting ability honestly. I like her in smaller supporting role doses or guest star roles, but when sshe is LEAD in a series she always seems flat to me. Yes I watched Dollhouse and 6 or 8 episodes of Tru Calling. Maybe it's better for the series if she is not in it? Her name was definitely not going to pull in more of the typical TNT viewers. Maybe she will find a better fit in a different show too.
ReplyDeleteI am big fan of Eliza and always disagree with those who say she can't act.I never liked the sound of this
ReplyDeletefor her.Eliza as cop Is not a good Idea. She Is not suited to procidal shows.
Eliza has done her best work with Joss Whedon.Buffy,Angel, and DollHouse.Tru Calling was her best
non whedon role.I enjoyed her In Bring It On and jay and Silent Bob Strike back. She can do comedy under
right circumenses. The Big Bang theory guest shot was not right for her.Her that 70's show guest shot was
better for her.
Some people will never accept her as anyone but Faith since she was so good at that, and that Is how many
know her.
Her backing out means I can Ignore this.
I really loved her as Echo in Dollhouse, and I'd be more than happy to see her again on the small screen, but Eliza as a cop?? I won't cry over the fact that it won't happen...
ReplyDeleteHere's what I think about Eliza, and I admit to being a big fan of hers...
ReplyDeleteShe is absolutely incredible at playing the "tough but vulnerable" role. She excells at that, moreso than any other actress on TV.
It's other roles I think she stumbles at. It could be that she just hasn't been given those roles before (and Dollhouse gave her a lot to work with each week) and so she's on a learning curve.
On Dollhouse, once Echo started to become an actual person, she had that "tough but vulnerable" personality going on, and Eliza did awesome with the character. SO, I'm hoping instead of trying to spread her wings and find a role she's probably not going to be completely convincing at, I'd like her to find a role that suits her capabilities, but one she can also grow with.
