The Walking Dead - Season 2 not likely until October 2011

15 Nov 2010

Most Walking Dead fans know there's only six episodes in this first season. I know, the season is half finished even though it feels like it's just getting started.

But here's what you didn't know, or perhaps only feared: Sources say AMC isn't likely to launch the 13-episode second season until next October.

The reason? Fearfest. AMC's annual horror movie marathon served as a perfect promotional platform to ramp up interest for The Walking Dead, which also took advantage of the higher audience levels during the fall (something not all cable shows can pull off given the barrage of broadcast shows airing at the same time -- which is why most cable dramas run during the summer).

  1. I'm not surprised. Frank Darabont said the show would need a quick renewal just so they could start writing again in January. Besides, AMC has a big ratings hit on their hands. I doubt, at this juncture, that they'd change anything about the show right now and that includes debuting the show around Halloween.

  2. That's fine with me. If this first season was 13 episodes instead of 6, then we would be waiting about 9 or so months until the next season starts. But since it is six episodes, we wait about 11 months. Just a few more months than we would have. Good show, so I'm fine with it!

  3. The important factor is a second season, not how long we have to wait to watch it! I am willing to wait for the shows i like or love. Hell I would be happy today if i got to see a Deadwood mini-series or movie, Veronica Mars movie, a third season or movie of Carnivale..... and of course, an Arrested Development movie. At one time or another they were all in the works, but for whatever reasons the studios shelved them. Atleast with The Walking Dead I KNOW there will be a second season and therefore.... I have no problem waiting nearly a year!

  5. Everything is as I expected. I enjoyed the episode last night, although I think I preferred Guts more. Has Merle gone even more native?
