Undercovers - Cancelled

4 Nov 2010

NBC is pulling the plug on J.J. Abrams' spy series Undercovers.

The network is declining to pick up a full season of the show.

Undercovers will air three more episodes in the coming weeks. The addition three episodes in the can "will likely" air at some point, but there's no date set.

Undercovers broke the mold by casting two black leads as the show's main characters. But middling reviews and declining ratings made the show increasingly destined for the chopping block. Last night's airing only delivered 5.8 million viewers and a 1.3 adult demo rating.

  3. Too bad... I loved the show!

  4. I'm not surprised. The ratings were consistently bad and the show lacked any sense of palpable danger or dramatic tension. When you're a spy show, that's not good at all.

  6. You don't even have to start thinking about that until May. Relax and enjoy the show.

  7. Hardly a surprise at this point, the ratings have been very bad since the Pilot. I just hope they will air even the three produced episodes that aren't in the schedule.

  8. I saw the show it could have been cool, but the sidekicks were annoying and the main couple didn't see enough real action. Too bad there really isn't enough people of color on tv especially as leads of a show. But I figured it get cancelled just wasn't interesting enough to get people hooked.

  9. Was only a matter of time until people saw that Undercovers was a bad romance novel masquerading as a spy series. I love spy shows and it was my least fav of the fall season.... by far. Atleast now maybe NBC will have a slot open and keep Chuck another year... or JJ Abrams can start working on something he does well... another distractingly overthought mystery/conspiracy drama.

  10. Have to agree with you on the lack of racial diversity on TV. Other than cop shows which almost always seem to have a black woman as the Captain.. even then they tend to be lesser characters. Might be nice to see a black couple as leads in a series NOT on TBS and NOT very unfunny!

Think this is just horrible!! -Just Tuesday it was stated that the format for the next few episodes had changed, as Abrams told Reims that they needed mythology, serialization, and needed delve into the Blooms' history and create a mystery around the truth at why the Blooms were re activated back into the CIA. Why would a network that just ordered 4 scripts not give the show another 3 weeks to see if the changes had a big enough effect?? --Oh wait, I know, it's Universal that owns NBC and SyFY--They just thought what they did with Caprica wasn't enough.

I am not saying it was a great show, but I could tell it was getting better and news of this change gave me hope that I was right about that as Samantha specifically started to show views of her belief in fate.

  13. Aw, man. While the show was nothing groundbreaking and, at times, a little lacklustre, I was really enjoying it. It's a show that doesn't take itself too seriously and the leads had great chemistry.

  14. I was enjoying the show, it was getting better every week. Damn you, NBC. You're on the road to be the next CW, getting 3 million viewers/1.0 ratings will be a blessing for you at this rate. I heard about the changes as well, and they ordered four more scripts for nothing. Idiots!

  16. I found it easier to like this show once I stopped thinking of it as a "JJ" show.
