-Ratings Breakdown:
There was nothing unusual to report on this eighth Friday of the 2010-11 season, with CBS the dominant network at under 10-million viewers and just a 1.6 rating/5 share among adults 18-49. Second in both categories was ABC, followed by NBC, with Fox and The CW tied for the No. 4 and 5 spots, respectively.

CBS’ Medium, which recently had its episode order slashed from 22 to 13, won the 8 p.m. hour with 6.92 million viewers and a 1.4 rating/5 share among adults 18-49. But year-ago occupant Ghost Whisperer was stronger and there is still no word what is stepping in.

Leading out of Medium was dominant but older skewing crime solvers CSI: NY (Viewers: #2, 9.97 million; A18-49: #2, 1.7/ 5), which lost considerable steam since moving from Wednesday at 10 p.m., and recent entry Blue Bloods (Viewers: #1, 10.52 million; A18-49: #1t, 1.6/ 5) from 9-11 p.m. Given the low HUT levels, these are still considered “winners” despite the lackluster demo finishes.

Second-place ABC opened the evening with Supernanny (Viewers: #2, 5.18 million; A18-49: #2, 1.2/ 4 at 8 p.m.), which concludes this season, followed by recent returnee Primetime: What Would You Do? (Viewers: #2, 6.29 million; A18-49: #1, 1.9/ 6) and veteran 20/20 (Viewers: #3, 5.42 million; A18-49: #1t, 1.6/ 5) from 9-11 p.m. Primetime: What Would You Do? deserves positive mention for the growth out of Supernanny, but tired 20/20 dropped the ratings ball at 10 p.m.

NBC’s inspirational but deadly dull non-scripted School Pride finished fifth at 8 p.m., with a mere 2.40 million viewers and a 0.6/ 2 among adults 18-49. Minus any lead-in support, another two-hour edition of Dateline was out of the competitive loop at 5.85 million viewers (#3) and a 1.4/ 5 among adults 18-49 (#3) from 9-11 p.m. Here is the half-hour breakdown:

Dateline (NBC)
9:00 p.m. – Viewers: 4.71 million (#3), A18-49: 1.0/ 3 (#3)
9:30 p.m. – Viewers: 5.83 million (#3), A18-49: 1.4/ 4 (#3)
10:00 p.m. – Viewers: 6.28 million (#2), A18-49: 1.6/ 5 (#1t)
10:30 p.m. – Viewers: 6.60 million (#2), A18-49: 1.7/ 6 (#1)

Fox continues to fill the Friday 8 p.m. hour with repeats of House (Viewers: #3, 3.30 million; A18-49: #4, 1.0/ 3), followed by waiting to be axed The Good Guys with just 2.39 million viewers (#4) and a last-place 0.7/ 2 among adults 18-49 at 9 p.m. And The CW aired its perennial combination of the final season of Smallville (Viewers: #4, 2.89 million; A18-49: #2, 1.3/ 4), which deserves accolades for the second-place demo finish, and Supernatural, which was below average at 2.08 million viewers (#5) and a 0.9/ 3 among adults 18-49 (#4) at 9 p.m.

  1. AH I cant tell you how much it hurts to see looser "supernatural" with THAT awesome episode. C'mon snipper dean... how can you miss that. ARGH please be up next week

  2. I don't know what's wrong with people. Supernatural is amazing every single week. Why don't the so called fans support a worthy show instead of watching those trashy shows who get the huge ratings?

  4. Poor Supernatural, I loved this week's episode, I hope it's just a one time slip. Let's hope next week's episode is up *prays to the Fairy Godmother*

  5. I hope so too. But I'm actually not that worried. Look at the rest of the CW's shows, they're not doing so great this season. Sure their beloved women demo is good but the channel is getting more and more niche.

  6. it was preempted in some places so i think that is why the ratings were lower than usual

  7. didn't know that. Thanks for sharing Tina.

  10. Well, I have learned a lot of things by watching Supernatural. This week I learned that being preempted sucks. Stupid ball game! I still haven't seen the episode. It doesn't air here until 9:00 tonight. I'm feeling deprived even though I know that I will still see it before a lot of countries, so I really shouldn't complain.

Oh! Screw the high road! This sucks out loud!

  11. I don't understand the big ratings difference between Supernatural and Smallville. It was a holiday and I know lots of people that went out of town. But if they missed Supernatural, they would have missed Smallville too... Same thing with the pre-emption. Since Smallville's numbers were good, that doesn't bode well for Supernatural. I thought the episode was a good episode. Not terribly exciting, but we learned a bit more and it was a new "monster"...

  12. I didn't get to see Smallville but I think that was the episode with Teri hatcher as Lois' mother (who played Lois in the old show Lois & Clark) so it was an event episode in that regard. However, the SPN fall was ridiculous...

  13. I feel your pain Dahne - it does suck out loud :(((((

    *hug*

Not rubbing it in or anything, but it only took 1 1/2 hours to download this week instead of the average 6 or so. So..... yeah......anyway......I can't wait for you to see it - it was awesome. :))))

  14. What the hell?!?! HOW THE HELL DID THIS HAPPEN???? The last time I checked Supernatural had an average of 2.5 million. Why has it gone down so much?!?!?! WHY?!?!?!

My jaw literally dropped onto the floor when I saw that figure. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WORLD???

  15. I personally find it difficult to watch tv on Friday nights. When I have friends that want to go out on a Friday night I'm not staying in to watch a tv show that I'll record and watch later anyway.

  16. I loved Supernatural too and I can't believe the ratings!!... I also loved Blue Bloods and Medium, it's a shame about Mediums ratings but I'm beginning to think that maybe it is time for, one of my favourite shows, to come to an end :(

  17. Ahah okay :) Thats not what I meant though. I'm just wondering why it dropped so much from the past weeks.

  18. Here's something that'll make us feel better: In a "CW by the numbers", Zap2it has supernatural doing better than 3 CW shows this week. So, in other words were not at the bottom of the pack.

But, gosh, I hope they do better next week.

All shows have an off-week. Supernatural is still great, but maybe the viewers are getting tired of the guys not being themselves and the darkness of the show. Hopefully Sera will listen and get us back to the original things we loved about the show. Next week looks hilarious! :)

  20. Okay, I love the SN, but if I was a first time viewer, I don't think I would stick with this season. The brotherly bond, what the show is supposed to be about, it non-existent. Now the show is more about finding a missing person, i.e. Sam's Soul. Furthermore, I thought last week's episode was boring. Did we learn anything new in this eppy? Just that Sam has killed some innocent people. So we have one of the main protagonist of the eppy who is being portrayed as a bad guy right now. I keep hoping each week that Dean will return to the hedonist guy I fell in love with it and Sam will turn back to the guy questioning right and wrong...looking for the shades of gray. I still think that Dean has Sam's soul and that is why Dean is OOC. But how can I get into a whole Season of non-character development (re: Sammy- who is not even in the show right now) and OOC development (re: Dean).
I think my problem with the show was we were promised a S1 feel...well this is as far from S1 as the writers could possibly get and I don't like it. I don't even have a crush on Dean anymore! And I have been carrying a torch for Dean for 5 years now!
