Misfits - Series 3 and USA Remake Looking Likely
17 Nov 2010
MisfitsSigns are emerging that the BAFTA-award winning and surprise hit of last year, Misfits, has already been commissioned for a third series as well as being remade for US television. But its creator doesn’t want a film version.
Although there is yet to be any official announcements, the news slipped out during a question-and-answer session between Jonathan Ross and Howard Overman. The event session – which was attended by the media and fans of the show – was being hosted in London to launch series 2 of the Channel 4 drama.
TV.com reports that, during the interview, Ross said, “There are more episodes coming next year . . . aren’t there?”
Slightly taken aback, Overman, the show’s creator, replied, “I was told not to mention that.”
Ross also asked about a possible US version of Misfits, but, again, Overman was hesitant in his reply. He said:
Again, I’m not sure I’m supposed to talk about that.
There’s been a lot of interest in it and talk about maybe doing an American version, but you just have to make sure it’s done in the right way.
Later in the interview, Overman talked about a possible movie version of the show. However, seemingly pouring cold water on one seeing the light of day, he said: “We’ve had some offers, but we decided that we’ve told that story already. Why charge people for a rehashed version of what they’ve already seen?”

Ugh, no more US remakes of perfectly good British shows. Being Human, now this... *sigh*
ReplyDeleteSame thing here! I don't get it... I think that good british shows work well because the are british!
ReplyDeleteCan't imagine Nathan or Kelly in a USA version... it's just not right!
Oh jeez why making remakes?! The UK show is perfect as it is! Just buy the damn show like the rest of the world is doing with your series, America.
ReplyDeleteI'm really not keen on a remake, I can't see many channels keeping the twisted humour and swearing in. I'd prefer a film to a remake, but I'm not very keen onthat either if I'm honest.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see a move to Chanel 4 and doubling up the episode count instead.

I wouldent mind a US show with the same premise. just not the community service thing and stuff, but not the exact same thing. not like they did with skins
ReplyDeleteI know! Half of what makes the dialogue on Misfits so brilliant is the uniquely British sense of humor that the cast and writers bring to life. I can't imagine the show any other way... And last I checked the US and UK both speak English, so... what's the big deal? :/
ReplyDeleteGeeze, UK version not good enough for some people? U.S remakes always tank, plus it usually turns out they change everything about the so called remake anyway, don't see why it can't be left alone, the show is epic as it is, doesn't need a U.S version.
ReplyDeleteWHY?! American remakes always suck. Why not just air the show in the US, and save a bunch of money?
ReplyDeleteWow, this is ridiculous, they remade skins and now they want to do there own version on misfits. They're just going to ruin a perfectly good BRITISH show.
ReplyDeleteI'm from America and I don't want a god damn remake. STOP BEFORE YOUR AHEAD.
ReplyDelete@ Christina Monroe: You mean "while" or was that some deep shit that went over my head?
ReplyDeleteEXACTLY! No US version is going to let them say 'wanker' a gazillion times. NO to the US version!!!
ReplyDeleteLove Love Love Misfits. It is way too rare to find a show as character driven as this. Love the dynamic between Simon and Nathan, as well as the dynamic between Simon and Alisha. Can't wait for more stuff from them.
ReplyDeleteI'm from America and I watch Misfits online and I cannot imagine Misfits as a US remake it's really going to SUCK because everything great about the show will be thrown out because of the censoring and (Misfits w/o the word 'wanker'= GROSS) and they're going to try to make the characters the same but it's not going to work because people have already gotten to know them so well.... LOVE BRITSH T.V because it's BRITISH and should stay that way!
ReplyDeleteUsually I wouldn't mind the idea of a US remake because they often turn out more than alright. I love Shameless US, and The Office US.. But Misfits is not the kind of show that Americans can handle. No disrespect, it's just, you know. The violence isn't the problem - Americans just can't handle sex, lol. One scene with Alisha's power or Nathan's dirty mouth and Misfits US will be chucked off to some obscure channel with a midnight time slot. And that's even in the best scenario, in that they keep with the original version's lack of boundaries.
ReplyDeleteChances are, they'll try to clean it up a bit. And then, you know, where's the fun?
I think it's just about Americans wanting it on their TV. I guess they've never heard of BitTorrent. Or, you know, the elusive youtube.
ReplyDeleteDo the owners of our Misfits have to actually give permission for a US remake? Is that how it works?
ReplyDeleteBecause Americans are a bunch of xenophobic idiots. Speaking as a reluctant member of the American populace...
ReplyDeletewe just want to see it ourselves instead of having to look for it online. don't you think we are sick and fucking tired of hearing that the american versions for fucking every show sucks? it pisses us off. we don't get to watch it ourselves. thats why we remake them. don't know if you are aware but many original american tv shows have been remade.
ReplyDeleteFrankly the American versions of most good British shows Do in fact suck, with the office being the exception.
ReplyDeleteThis is crap. It's not the American PEOPLE who do this shit, it's TV execs. As an American I'd be THRILLED if they'd just broadcast British shows here. Misfits and Downton Abbey being my 2 favorites, obviously it would make my life easier... I think TV execs underestimate the American public, and then in turn the majority of the American public lives down to their expectations for lack of options.
ReplyDeletey r yall judging we havnt even seen it yet plus yall make remakes of our shows and we dont make a big deal
