You can't keep sisters as close as Aly and AJ Michalka apart for long!

Zap2it confirms that AJ has been tapped for a recurring role on her sister's series, "Hellcats." AJ, who recently appeared in Disney's "Secretariat," will make her CW debut in the second half of the season as a girl who works at a record store near Lance

  2. AJ isn't quite as...athletically fit as her sister, but she's easy on the eyes too. The major selling point of this show is the attractiveness of its cast, mostly Tisdale and Alyson, so it makes sense that they'd want to bring in the sister as well.

  3. While not delving into the specific aesthetic qualities (or lack there of) of AJ Michalka, I will say that if the show wanted to hire a college-age girl to add some eye candy, there are many fine choices available to a casting director in that regard who have the added bonus of having a respectable acting resume. If AJ wasn't Alyson's sister, she wouldn't of booked the job.

  4. True, but you can say that about most actors. Eliza Dushku may never have got her role in Dollhouse if she wasn't close friends with Joss Whedon. Actually, you can say that for most of the people who have acted in his tv series in the past. Just about everyone he has worked with has crossed over into another series of his at some point.

This happens a lot in the industry. Certain directors are more comfortable with certain actors that they have worked with before. In this case, the new cast member is Alyson's sister. AJ has probably visited the set enough that when they needed someone for the role, they instantly went through a list of people they could get quickly.

Add that to the fact that people might like to see how they act together on screen, a fine example being the Deschanel sisters, and it starts to look like a good fit even if its meant to bring in curious viewers. Motives for hiring family of a cast member is rarely just because they asked.

  5. We'll have to agree to disagree on this one.

To me, there's a big difference between booking a job because there's someone working on the show who enjoyed working with you in the past and respects your talent and getting a job because your sister works on the show and getting you on screen together is a gimmick that could draw some post-Disney tween interest.

If it makes a bump in the ratings, good for Hellcats. It's a nice show. However, I'm not buying into this as anything more than Aly throwing some work her sister's way.

  6. Either way it's not exactly a bad thing. I don't think AJ is a terrible actress, and the role looks temporary. It's not like they're going to put her in a pivotal role or anything, it's a girl who works in a record store. ;)

  7. Yeah, it seems like a nice piece of fluff so, all in all, it's harmless.

  8. it's not ALWAYS the director or a producter asking a certain actor cause she/he is family with a star of the show or an actor of the show deciding to give his family wome work

Look at Stargate Atlantis, the producers were searching for an actress to play the sister of one of their actor, and while they were in a theater play, they really loved the actress without knowing who she was. it was AFTER that they realized she was the real life sister of their actor for who they were searching a on-screen sister
(^^' Sorry for my english, not my first language)
