Fringe - Kevin Reilly - ‘We Are Not Killing The Show’

Thanks to FringeWatch for sending us the following..

As for Fox’s other big newsmaking move – shifting Fringe to Fridays - Entertainment President Kevin Reilly said he hopes fans don’t think he’s putting the show out to pasture. ”We are not killing the show. Over the last week, over 45 percent of the audience time-shifted the show. That’s almost half of the dedicated audience watching it on their DVRs. It’s been such a loyal fanbase. I will be really disheartened if the viewer base decides to not watch because it shifted one night. I hope they go with it, and if not they have the option of picking it up on their DVRs. If it does anywhere near what it did on Thursdays, we can glue that show to the schedule because it can be a big win for us.”

  2. "If it does anywhere near what it did on Thursdays"

    The problem is, it won't.

  3. Yeah. That would be a miracle. I am not giving up but I am far from being optimistic. We have to wait and see the numbers in january...

  4. Mr. Kevin Reilly - Do you remember what happened to Dollhouse, or Sarah Connor Chronicles? You put it on a Friday night slot - never got the numbers and killed the show - even though there was enough following? Why do you insist on moving popular shows to Fridays? I cannot believe reality shows as Hell's Kitchen continues to get renewed while original shows get canceled on your network. Its almost pointless to watch/follow shows on your network, because you do your damndest to kill them off.

  5. Well I'm gonna watch it either way, but it pisses me off that they are bumping it for yet ANOTHER stupid reality show that

    a) No one cares about and
    b) Will no doubt be cancelled by the end of this year.

And of course, American Idol. If I ever needed anything to cement further my hatred of American Idol, this is it.

  6. I'm certainly taking this with a grain of salt.
But at least there's one thing Fringe has that DH didn't: I don't know if you guys know this but Fringe's lowest ratings ever with 4.93 million viewers is MORE than any episode of DH ever had. By the end of the first season it was down to 2 million viewers. Then, they renewed it for a full second season and stayed around 2 million viewers until they had to cancel it. It was doing about as bad (if not worse) than The Good Guys is now...Maybe there's still a chance for Fringe on Friday?

  7. Yes but putting it on Fridays WILL KILL THE RATINGS!!! That's obvious since people are tombusy to sit down and watch TV at a specific time on Fridays and they'll prob just get 60% of the audience DVRing... :/

  8. This reminds me of Dollhouse...

  9. If Kevin Reilly is not really killing the show, then he should have cemented Fringe future by signing perhaps a year contract after this season in order to give the audience AND the writers a good satisfactory ending for the show!

At that time, I don't really care whether the show is aired on 4am or 12nn or 5pm... or any day to that matter.

  10. Ugh, I don't understand Fox at all. It's like they purposely want to alienate some of their core viewers. To be fair, they messed with Firefly, Dollhouse, Terminator, and plenty more and yet we keep going back. Curse their ability to find excellent programming in order to kill it slowly.

  11. AND Terminator: TSCC.

  12. IF FRINGE IS CANCELED AFTER THIS,
    I WILL CRY.

  13. Even though I really liked both T:TSCC and Dollhouse, if I recall correctly, they were both NOT doing well at all before they got moved to Fridays, and then continued to do poorly after the move. I'll try to be optimistic that Fringe's viewship won't take a giant hit when it moves to Fridays, but I suppose it's hard to know what will happen...

  14. I will watch it even if it comes on at 2am Sunday nite. Best show on Television.

How about a little advertising for it !
    Come on Fox !

  16. Have you not seen Friday's track record? There is a reason shows die on that night: BECAUSE WE ALL HAVE LIVES!

  17. Look guys. I loved Dollhouse, I did, but that show did NOT have a large fanbase. Not anywhere compared to Fringe. You think it did because you and all your friends loved it, or you got online (like me) and geeked out with other fans. But that show, from the start, had absymally low ratings. Fringe has a much, much larger viewership and fanbase than Dollhouse ever did. I didn't watch Sarah Connor but I suspect it was much the same with that show as with Dollhouse. Is that FOX's fault because they didn't advertise well for those shows? Yeah, probably. But all I'm saying is, that is not the case with Fringe.

So stop being so negative about it. You're not a real fan if this makes you mad at FOX so that you stop watching the show. That's childish and petty behavior. Even people who don't have DVR can probably at least do good ole fashioned recording, or if you good internet, you can watch it on Hulu. It's not the end of the world, and more importantly, it's not the end of Fringe.
